1. ok , so everyones talking about how Hargreaves will be "the perfect buy" for Utd. While i am a big Hargreaves fan and a bigger Utd fan, im not so sure its the best buy during the january window. After dishing out 17 mil on MC (rushed and idiotic, but oh well!!), is a huge money buy for someone in the same position really worth it? with alan smith coming back theres alwaysa backup option for carrick (though its not a natural one). What do you guys think?
2. I couldnt be happier that utd sit at the top of the league. However, I want to see the race go down to the wire and thats not going to happen unless chelsea make some defensive purchases. Surely Roman and the the self-proclaimed "great one" realize that unless they bring a quality centre-half in during january, the race will be over before they can say "wtf?" who would you bring in if you were them? 12/28/2006 12:43:55 AM |

^^ Yeah, with Terry being out for a few weeks, I can see them imploding. I don't want it to go down to the wire, I want it to be an out-and-out drubbing where United destroys the league and leaves Chelski in the dust.
I don't think Carrick was a waste of 18 million quid, either. People forget that Carrick is meant to be Paul Scholes' long term successor, not Keano's. Hargreaves will play the Keane role in the United midfield of the future, and it's looking more and more like he wont come until the summer. He's still recovering from that broken leg and being tossed into the EPL mix probably wouldn't be the best for his recovery.
and Smith in the midfield is a disaster. he's got heart, but he doesn't have the skill. He's Rooney's natural backup in the second striker position. Wayne would actually make a better holding midfielder than most of the ones starting in the EPL, imo.

Quote : | "Chelsea Sets Its Sights on Olney's Onyewu, Who Played on U.S. World Cup Team
Tuesday, January 23, 2007; Page E02
Oguchi Onyewu could be heading to Chelsea of the English Premier League.
The two-time defending league champion is looking to sign the 24-year-old from Olney during the January transfer window. Onyewu (Sherwood High), a member of last year's U.S. World Cup team, has been with Belgium's Standard Liege since the 2004-05 season, and British media reported yesterday that the 6-foot-4 defender could cost Chelsea $3.95 million.
"There is truth in regard to Chelsea," said Onyewu's agent, Will Sherling.
Chelsea, in second place and six points behind Manchester United, has struggled defensively in recent games. French champion Lyon also has been in discussions with Onyewu, who recently turned down an offer from Fulham.
Lyon wants "to do the deal, but they want him to stay at Liege until the end of the summer," Sherling said.
Onyewu had been set to join fellow Americans Brian McBride, Carlos Bocanegra and Clint Dempsey at Fulham earlier this month in a $1.96 million transfer, but Sherling said Onyewu opted not to go.
Whether Onyewu joins Chelsea may depend on the amount of playing time he can expect. He turned down a move to Real Madrid earlier this season.
"The best club for him is one that will develop his profile as a player," Sherling said. "He doesn't need to get tangled up in which club is bigger than the next."" |
