Cause Casey Mears needs help. I dunno. I'm just thinking here. I wonder who he would let go if it came down between Mears and Busch...

I completely agree! Busch is a great driver. (I am a Hendrick fan, so I pull for all those guys! )

BTW, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS IS SUCH A BIG ISSUE AS FAR AS WHO HAS AN OPEN SPOT AND WHO DOESN'T RIGHT NOW. DALE AIN'T LEAVING TILL NEXT YEAR, AND THAT'S A WHOLE NOTHER BALL GAME! YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT MAY CHANGE.
SO, SERIOUSLY, STOP ARGUING WITH ME ABOUT THIS!

k, thanks!

Yeah I heard Jr. said he didn't want to drive the #3, and I was a bit saddened, but I understand why, the pressure would be immense.

I really wish that Chidlress would buy the #8, but I doubt he would go through all that.

No, you go to a new team, you get a new number. I like that! That's part of what makes teams recognizable. Don't worry, noone will be in the 8 for a long time.

And I think its best he don't drive the 3. He'll never be as good as his Daddy was, so he shouldn't put that much pressure on himself, or drive that number and screw things up...

how would driving in the 3 car put any more pressure on himself? he already has his dad's name and basically his entire fanbase. i don't see why driving the 3 adds more pressure. it's not like anyone is ever going to forget who his dad was, regardless of what car he drives.

I dont think its about pressure, he just doesnt feel comfortable about it, maybe respecting his fathers legacy, etc...but youre right, he already has all of the pressure there. Hell, the pressure is going to be to get him in the #3, not actually being in it. Im pretty sure Budweiser would LOVE to see their colors on a #3 Chevrolet.

Really hope this happens...I cant call myself an Earnhardt fan, but Id hate to see him go to Hendrick...I hate everything about that organization, and Id have to cross him off of my "dont mind seeing him win" list.

Let me first state I think Junior is a genuinely nice guy, just as I thought Earnhardt was a genuinely nice guy, but I don't want to see him win just cause of his fanbase. Earnhardt fans are the UNC fans of NASCAR.

If Junior is smart, he will not drive the #3. The only reason he gets an ounce of fan support is his father. You will hardly find a fan in the stands that's old enough that cheers for him and did not cheer for his father. However, he already started the whole "me vs. my dad" contest when he stated "I am the same age my dad was when he moved to Richard Childress Racing." I am half-wishing there was a reporter there that said "I knew your father, I watched your father race. You are not your father." Going into the #3 will psychologically reinforce the notion in his fanbase that he IS his father. What's going to happen to that fanbase when he doesn't reproduce the results, which I will bet anyone here will not happen unless NASCAR look the other way on "creative engineering" (which has been known to happen from time-to-time throughout NASCAR's history when they would like a certain result). If you read Junior fans on the internet, their entire reasoning for why Junior is not a three-time champion already is cause Theresa won't sell him the team outright and DEI's cars are s***. Well, both of those are about to disappear.

the reason he isnt a champion yet is because of better teams like Hendrick (the "i like it like that" team) Roush and Gibbs

as for will he ever be his father... no, and more than likely no one will be... Back in the day the great drivers could dominate all the time... today the field is somewhat more even (the cars and talent)... you just have to put together a few good seasons of high finishes and good luck (see #17)...

Jr is not Sr, and never will be, but I like the guy, and I think he made the right move by leaving, now its up to him to make the "right" next move to where he thinks he can win... I wish him luck, and will continue to enjoy seeing him race and hopefully win, just like my other favorite drivers (none of which ride in a hendrick car)

^^^ No, definitely the Earnhardt fans are the UNC fans of NASCAR. And I'm not saying that to be mean.

Quote :

Well, girls 15 and under who aren't pulling for Kasey Kahne!

And yes, I do think that Jr. would really catch a LOT of flack and pressure by his own fans if he drove the #3. Because fans of Sr. will expect to see the car driven as good as it used to be driven when Sr. drove it. (By anyone who may ever get in that number, not just Jr.) And face it, Jr. will NEVER be that good.
Think about it, you don't see Kyle Petty driving Richards #43...And you can bank on that being one reason why. So, they waited a few years, and now Bobby Labonte is in the #43. And who is better?

Erm, that's because Kyle Petty was already driving the Felix Sabates #42. Petty Enterprises waited only one season before putting Wally Dalenbach Jr. and then John Andretti into the #43. When Kyle was dropped from the Sabates car, he moved back to Petty Enterprises in the #44 because the 43 was occupied, and when Adam was killed, Kyle switched to the #45 because that was Adam's car.

#3 and #8 never can be compared to UNC. Again bethaleigh with her brilliant posts anyways Jeff Gordon and his fans are the pompous crowd of nascar, just like UNC in well everything including LIFE.

Went to the race last night - shit sucked, waited til 845 to make an announcement, didn't get soaked though, sat in the truck. Went today and shit was awesome til the end when Gordon just walked away with it. Had the scanner going though, and after that first 40 laps when Junior moved from 21st to 5th, he came on and said... "Damn, ole car ain't to bad!"

Dale (jr and sr) have wal-mart fans. people who like them because of their name and the fact that they are/were always talked about, even if they sucked. This makes them easier to compare to UNC. Jeff Gordon is like Duke in that everyone hates him because he wins a lot and a perceived attitude and demeanor on and off the track.

Yeah, I think Jeff Gordon would be Duke. The most comparable person to him I can think of is fans' opinion of him versus, say, J.J. Redick in college.

It would be too obvious. If a company like DEI managed to win one everyone would know something was rigged. But now that he's going to be on a team that probably has some chance at winning, don't be suprised to see him do solid.

Plus when your engine blows, they really can't manipulate too much.

nascar does throw or not throw debris cautions in order to make the race more exciting. nobody wants to see only one car on the lead lap or a top tier driver a lap down because a yellow came out right after he pitted under green.

for example, last sunday Joe Nemechek shredded a tire and pieces were on the track during green flag pit stops, but no yellow came until after everyone had pitted.

^ ...which goes to show their safety emphasis since Earnhardt's death is bulls***.

No one wants to see one team beating the other in the National Championship game by four touchdowns in the 3rd quarter, but just because of that the NCAA doesn't give points back to the losing team.
