word is that Colin Farrell, Johnny Depp and Jude Law are finishing his role because Ledger's character falls into a mirror at three points in the film and it transports him into some alternate reality.

It seems that a certain Edward Nashton has been authoring letters to the Gotham City Times. Another alias for Edward Nygma. http://www.thegothamtimes.com/page2.htm

I really wish that the third film would focus on him and/or Penguin. All I've heard is Two-Face and possibly Catwoman for it though. What about y'all?????

The viral marketing continues to heat up. Let's make sure we stay on top of it as July creeps ever so close.

I'm pleased WB is moving full speed ahead with the marketing. I really do feel its the best possible tribute to Heath and he would want it. However, I really would like to find at least a 27x40 of the Joker one sheet international poster. All that's available is the tiny 11x17

What about Bane? I realize he's a lesser villain in the mythos, but they could do the whole hitman thing.

Hell, I would still like to see a live-action Batman versus Dracula.

do you have any idea how complicated the Bane story arc is?

I'd love to see it, but it'll never happen under Nolan.

That story would be a five or six part series as it is.

rumor is they are setting up Dr. Harlene Quinzel in this one and Two-Face is established at the very end of TDK ... More than likely you'll see Falcone return in a third to face off against Two-Face ... Harlene will probably be just as maniacal as Joker ... "The Penguin" will rise to power ... "The Riddler" will just be established at the end, like Two-Face ...

More than likely, you'll see The Long Halloween pan out more in a third film. There will be no Bane or Dracula, and no Marvel/DC crossover.

And that's my word!

It amazes me the effort that is put into viral marketing. Case in point, this is a "Letter to the Editor" from that link.

Quote :
"Maroni a Legitimate Businessman

It is outrageous that The Gotham Times continues to slime a legitimate businessman who happens to have a vowel at the end of his name.

Have I missed a trial, or has Mr. Maroni ever been convicted of jaywalking, let alone leading a massive criminal conspiracy? Throughout the bloodshed on the city streets, The Gotham Times has played up anti-Italian prejudices, asserted the reality of a "Falcone crime family now run by Maroni", and all in all attempted to libel a tax-paying member of the community.

The Gotham Times, especially in the emotional day we live in, should be attempting to calm ethnic strife rather than exacerbate it. Maroni deserves an apology, and so do your readers.

Saul Rossini, Little Italy"

Yeah, I've got the Bloody Why So Serious one along with the defaced wall picture too but the one with Joker's back facing us is elusive in a large size. I found the small one at moviegoods.com but I think they targeted that particular poster in the UK. I've searched high and wide on British, Spanish, and French sites in the hope that it was somewhere in Europe for sale but no luck. Plus there is sadly so much fraudulent stuff out there trying to capitalize on Heath's death. They probably stopped printing those or perhaps never had many in circulation prior to his death anyway.

Any setup or cameo for the Penguin or Riddler would do it for me. I'd love to see the Penguin with his smoking cigarette holder intimidating goons as a major kingpin in the Gotham underworld. Plus I'd like to see how he and Riddler would work in the Nolan world. I don't think it would happen but I could see Jim Carey being recast as the Riddler and doing it to the current style. With such a wide Rogues Gallery though my pipedream and I know it's just that is a modern TV show or hell even a mini-series would do.

I find no fault in the film, so I give it 9 out of 10 (there are few movies I've ever given a 10).

But I'm sure plenty of people will disagree.

Um. . .yes, it so happens that I do. Any complication can be easily solved through the creative application of storytelling and cinema magic.

And don't be so quick to dismiss the ideas: Bane was already used in Batman & Robin--unfortunately, to contemptible effect. And Batman versus Dracula has been done in comics and as an animated feature.

In any event, Penguin, The Riddler, and Two-Face are the most likely villains to appear next--and I don't object to any of them. I would like to see some villains such as Killer Croc and/or Clayface, though.

there are huge marketability issues in using characters such as Bane and Killer Croc. Can those characters sustain enough of a story to keep an audience captivated for 2 hours? Maybe. Can they do it better than the established villains with whom the audience is already familiar? HIGHLY doubtful.

not bad characters, but a bad business decision.

Bane is a pretty shitty character, honestly, but no matter how complicated a character's origin is, there are always ways to simplify it.

Quote :
"Let's be fair. Venom is far, far, far from being a character whose origin can be told in a two-hour movie without straining the audience's suspension of disbelief. His costume/companion is an extraterrestrial organism brought to Earth by Spider-Man following a 'secret war' between superheroes and supervillains organized by an omnipotent entity from beyond our universe that took place on a planet called Battleworld.

Still with me? That's only half the origin. The other half involves Eddie Brock, a journalist who had the bad luck to follow a bad lead in an investigation into a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who went rogue and became a serial killer known as the Sin-Eater.

You can see where the complications arise. Who or what is the Beyonder? What is this Battleworld? What the heck is S.H.I.E.L.D.? The 'Sin-Eater'? So, in the grand spirit of adaptations of superhero comics, we get simplification by omission: no Beyonder, no Battleworld, no Secret War, no S.H.I.E.L.D., no Sin-Eater. To successfully simplify by omission, though, you have to preserve the core of the character."

^^^ Wrong again, Frosh. The interpretation applied to the Bane character is usually "pretty shitty"--the character itself has a lot of potential:

Quote :
"Although his dependency on Venom is an immense weakness, Bane has been one of Batman's most intelligent and physically powerful foes [emphasis added]. He is best known for breaking Batman's back in the 'Knightfall' story arc.

Although primarily a villain, Bane is a complex character and has worked to take down drug lords. Despite their history, he has sometimes had Batman's financial backing and direct assistance.

Bane has appeared in some other media adaptations of Batman, including Batman: The Animated Series and its sequels and spin-offs and its successor, The Batman. Pro-wrestler Jeep Swenson played him in the 1997 film Batman & Robin. In most of these adaptations, he is more simplistic and thug-like than his comic book counterpart [emphasis added]."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bane

But I stand on my previous statement:

Quote :
"In any event, Penguin, The Riddler, and Two-Face are the most likely villains to appear next--and I don't object to any of them. I would like to see some villains such as Killer Croc and/or Clayface, though."

Man, that shit is outdated. Bane's not dependent on Venom anymore and hasn't been for years.

Shitty character either way. Born of a DC marketing push in the early '90s to change things forevar!!1 by making the toughest, most ExXxTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME villain possible to OMFG BREAK BATMAN'S BACK!

^ Yeah, I know--but I didn't write the damn thing. You saw the parts I bolded and they still apply.

I'll stipulate your point about the "toughest, most ExXxTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME villain" thing, but what's wrong with that? I mean, when they brought in some extremely tough villains for fights on Smallville, the show didn't suck nearly as bad.

I vote "Yes!" for extremely tough villains.

More than incorporating Bane into the Nolan series, I'd like to see a separate Nightfall/Legacy series that doesn't focus wholly on the Bat.

I always saw Bane as a very intelligent villain. He wasn't just a junkie addict to Venom, he was a cold, calculating man who always knew when and where to strike, intelligently. Not just during the Knightfall saga, but when he popped back up during No Man's Land, and after, he was always the one to strike at a crucial moment, time-wise, not just being randomly strong. We had Killer Croc, Clayface, and lots of other "Hey, look, I'm big and strong but not that bright" villains. Bane deserved better than ^ that.
