I'm also a little surprised they made them find Earth so soon. I'm curious to know what they have left to show.

It might as well be a completely new show now.

things still unresolved:
cylon civil war
who is the final cylon?
and presumably, what does that mean for everything else?
why did boomer decide to be a bitch after new caprica?
what's up with the half cylon kids and tigh's all cylon kid?
why did doral and the black cylon only get like 2 lines each this season?
what happened on earth? are there people hidden there?
what happened to head six/baltar?
what's going to happen to baltar's religion?
why couldn't they give gaeta a damn prosthetic foot?

final cylon speculation:
based on xena's words/actions and what we've seen of the four in the fleet, it seems likely that the last cylon is someone who used to be in the fleet but was killed. (killed early enough for her to know about it before getting boxed, so not cally)
this would make the potential candidates:
billy
ellen tigh
the black priestess roslin was seeing in her visions last week
crashdown
or kat

SPOILER from the "next week on battlestar galactica" thing

I don't think this is the case because they have Adama's voice saying "so you're the final cylon" it could be a misdirection, but you never know.

Quote :
"things still unresolved:
cylon civil war"

Is this really relevant now they found Earth? Shouldn't be too hard to resolve things. Plus, the "bad" cylons can't find earth so the "good" cylons can just ignore them can't they?

Quote :
"who is the final cylon?"

Also doesn't seem to matter to me, now they found Earth.

Quote :
"and presumably, what does that mean for everything else?"

This is a good question. Lets hope they didn't write themselves in to a hole.

Quote :
"what's up with the half cylon kids and tigh's all cylon kid?"

The all cylon kid is an interesting question. I'd like to know what the whole origin of the "skin jobs" was to begin with.

Quote :
"why did doral and the black cylon only get like 2 lines each this season?"

I was wondering that myself.

Quote :
"what happened on earth? are there people hidden there?"

I would think there would almost have to be people. I think though it's clear that it was a nuclear war from our not-so-distant future that wiped us out (evidenced by the geiger counter and the mass destruction). Obvious where they'd get this idea from...

Quote :
"what happened to head six/baltar?"

Another good question, but I think its another one of their plot holes.

Quote :
"what's going to happen to baltar's religion?"

I don't really care about this one either. I think they have been a little unfocused with his character anyway.

I could see it being ellen tigh since colonel tigh has been seeing her when he was with the captive 6

It would make a lot of sense for it to be ellen.

Also, IIRC, ellen and tigh never had any kids right?

I think the other thing they have dwelt upon is the whole Starbuck being the harbinger of death to the humans.

Ok, its time to educate some motherfuckers.

Here are two of the biggest points nobody has brought up.

Everything they have done has already been done and will happen again. Right now I am thinking that almost the exact thing happened on earth to drive the humans to the 12 colonies. And now they are right back where they started. This is a theme they talk about over and over in the episodes with commentary found on http://www.scifi.com/battlestar

And one plot line that hasnt been resolved at all is the cylon drones and guards that need to rebel at some point.

Also, It seems very likely that the other cylons will show up at some point. But, they could easily not show up depending on what thy have planned for the fleet. But right now I dont see much plot left.

I think the awesome would be that the "earth" they just found was Mars, and they travel to our earth to settle there instead.....

^ Going along that theme, we could have some catastrophic battle or such stranding them all on Earth so that the remaining Colonials and their friendly Cylons just build on the ruins of the 13 Colonies, establishing what would become our modern society. It doesn't have to be the ruins of our civilization that they're currently walking around on.

Also agreed that there has to be survivors somewhere. Even in our most apocalyptic predictions, you always have pockets of survivors... or hordes of zombies and mutants roaming the countryside.

I think it'd be interesting if the Galactica fleet turns out to BE the equivalent 13th colony, gets completely wiped out, and is proof that history is repeating itself. The survivors back on Caprica and the other 11 planets rise from the ashes to rebuild civilization, beat back whatever Cylons are left and subjugate them, and go into a period of peace... before the Cylons rebel, disappear, and attack all over again.

If you're into spoilers, go look for the episode about the discovery of Starbuck's original Viper.

jesus christ.

have you NOT watched this show before? they ALWAYS split the season into two parts. and there is ALWAYS a ridiculously long break between the two parts of the season.

This one is extra-long because of delays caused by the writers strike. It was not intended. There's always a mid-season break yes. That's normal across most networks. It's not supposed to last 6-7 months though.

The only previous new BSG season that had any significant break within the season was season two, and that was just under 4 months. None of the other seasons had big breaks in them. They'd skip a week or two and were short seasons, but you're talking out of your ass really.

ok right season one didn't have a huge break... unless you count the time between the mini-series and 33.

and yes, seasons 2 and 3 had large breaks between them.
and the breaks between the seasons have been getting longer and longer.

but no, you shouldn't have expected anything like that this time.

w00t

thats all i can say after finally watching the mid season finale this evening.

i cannot say i even thought about a post-nuked Earth as a possibility at all for this show. and after seeing it happen, i was disappointed because i didn't see what i wanted, but i am so impressed by the idea of really making a statement with the show's plot line.

I found something interesting over on scifi.com you guys may like -

Quote :
"I'm telling you, the Earth isn't a destination, it's an origin. The whole premise is a careful ruse to bring the Twelve colonies together and back to the place they came from, Earth. We all read the bible, mis-read and mis-interpret vast sections of text. RDM has given us a mid-season challenge, with subtle hints along the way, the Eye of Jupiter....if you were travelling to Earth, you wouldn't leave a marker referencing a planet you've not yet arrived at. If you were leaving then you'd want to know, if that was your intention, how to get back in the future.
The arrow that revealed the map in the ruined temple. How does a map exist detailing the destination of a place not yet arrived at by the thirteen? It only works if you turn it around and say the Twelve colonies came from the yet to be revealed story of the fleet of Earth craft that left their desolate and ruined Earth to find a better world or worlds to settle on. All this has happened before. Finally Bob Dylan, as I've mentioned before, would a fleet escaping a dying planet not take data banks of images, art, music and culture as well as technological advances to aid their re-settlement? I should mention the signal or beacon, discovered by Starbuck, if you plant a beacon on a dead planet before you leave, then you hopefully want someone to find it at a later date.
'Caprica' the series has to have a cushion to rest it's story arc upon, and the quest for origin may be a part of that.
Finally one true GOD, a give away if ever there was one as to the origin of the Colonies. Where else would it have come from? Hence Baltar's obsession as we near the end.
The Cylons of course are seeking a similar resolution and closure. Their origins of course are revealed in 'Caprica' and hopefully the reason for their obsession with God will become apparent thus tying the two differing adventures together, Caprica leading into the past, and Galactica taking us into the future.

It all makes perfect sense. The human race nearly killed itself on Earth, many escaped into space and eventually colonised the twelve planets, dividing into factions. The intention to return has been lost in time, and distorted over millennia. Somewhere in the vast Data-banks on Caprica the original Earth exists as a point of reference for humankind to have been to. The information is incorrect. Humans didn't go to Earth, how else would people know it's name They came from Earth. Also explains why the Cylon intelligence got a hold of the idea of God again that will probably be referenced in 'Caprica' and the last episodes of BSG."

I kid you not, after my brother heard about the Palin pick and did some research he says "She's no Laura Roslin."

But the reference to McCain being Tigh is hilarious. I can see Obama being more like Leoben, but Baltar is a good call.

That leaves Biden as....

I guess I should post in this thread...

I've made an attempt to go back to the beginning and watch all the way back through to the present before the new eps in 2009. Unfortunately I've had a lot of grad school work the past couple of months that has largely kept me in the first season still. Help me figure out some "landmark" episodes to watch through over the next month since I unfortunately can't sit down and watch a full season too easily right now
