hahaha wtf ever dude. you're either seriously deluded or just plain retarded, and I would have said that before they won today. They're a virtual lock for #5- no way the Pac-10 only gets 4 in this year.3/2/2008 5:10:26 PM |

Well maybe? I haven't watched an iota of college basketball this year I just look at the RPI and realize they can't be very good. It's near impossible to get in at-large if you're outside the top 50.
I believe #74 was the highest ever with New Mexico one year...
Maybe Herb has friends on the committee or something. 3/2/2008 5:18:08 PM |

USA Today/Espn poll (could not find the AP that far back... and could not find any data before 2001)
2001-2002 (week #19) 25. N.C. State 23-11 86
2003-2004 (week #18) 20. N.C. State 21-10 157

I'm not even watching the season and even I know the Pac10 landscape better than that.
UCLA, Wash St, and Stanford are already in.
Arizona is probably in (esp if they win today)
USC is on the bubble.

That's generally true but this year is weird. I've seen everyone say they are in with a win over Oregon State b/c of they have five REALLY STRONG quality wins and are likely going to go 9-9 in the toughest conference this year. Their RPI is in the low to mid 60s right now (State is in the mid 80s)...
And about not watching college this year... I can't believe that people would rather watch college ball when shit like this Lakers game is going on in the West this year..

I think the refs are really watching U$C right now- a couple players are known to play dirty (Gibson and Jefferson). I know hundreds of Bruin fans deluged every PAC 10 higher-ups email and phone after this....
http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc277/vidman13/?action=view¤t=SC34.flv
Bruin fans were pissed about an inbounds pass that was thrown off a Bruin's face the week before, decided to take it up with the officials. I'm guessing that Howland went to the commish and they started watching $C a little more.

Quote : | "Two days after his team was called for a season-high 29 fouls during a loss against Arizona State, USC Coach Tim Floyd on Monday said he had voiced his displeasure with the game officiating to Pacific 10 Conference officials. Four Trojans players fouled out and USC was called for more than twice as many fouls as the Sun Devils, who were assessed 14 fouls during their 80-66 victory at Tempe. Arizona State shot 39 free throws to USC's 11. The Sun Devils shot 36 free throws during a second half in which they overcame a three-point deficit to build leads as large as 22 points. Arizona State scored 13 consecutive points from the foul line during one stretch." |

If all else fails, the center jacks up a three with everybody else standing hopelessly outside while the other team gets the rebound. Herb's teams often rely on the three point shot to set up the backdoor play, which has at times resulted in long scoring droughts on poor shooting nights. One time his NC State team only scored 10 points in the first half versus a Big East cellar dwellar (Saint John's) and on another occasion he let Seton Hall come into the RBC center and beat the hell out of the Wolfpack.
