"yea i have to be honest, again, CIVILIAN control of our military. That does not mean military experience is in any way bad, I mean Bush had no military experience and you see what he's done playing Risk in the Middle East.

The most important thing is a BALANCED ticket, on either side. Balanced meaning that the candidates compliment each other but also differ enough to support intelligent debate.

Most importantly though, and this is where Republicans just can't figure it out, our candidates should care more about America than that made up Jesus guy or his fairy tale daddy. If our leaders cared more about America than religion, we would be a much further advanced society with a much more unified population. If you're wanting my vote, I want you looking out for my country and then me and that's it. I MYSELF will worry about my afterlife."

pretty much sums it up

I bet Twista is a blast at a party. Him and my grandpa would have a lot to talk about

getting preferential treatment to go in the Air National Guard in order to avoid wartime military service and then go AWOL and get shit reviews and almost court-martialed.

yeah, that counts.

Palin got some clever zingers in there on Obama.

The Obama-ites are going to have to redouble their efforts on their campaign strategy--that McCain is Bush in a Viet-Cong beaten-up body.

i'm not talking about the national guard in general, but youre kidding yourself if you think george bush did shit in the national guard while he was there. that was a pure resume builder and a way for him to avoid being in the army.

^ The black turnout during the primaries were nuts. I bet more blacks turn out to vote as a percentage of their eligible voters than any other group. They are very excited about Obama, and they have a right to be, IMO.

Best part of Palin's speech:

Quote :
"Sudden and relentless reform never sits well with entrenched interests and power brokers. That's why true reform is so hard to achieve.

But with the support of the citizens of Alaska, we shook things up.

And in short order we put the government of our state back on the side of the people.

I came to office promising major ethics reform, to end the culture of self-dealing. And today, that ethics reform is the law.

While I was at it, I got rid of a few things in the governor's office that I didn't believe our citizens should have to pay for.

That luxury jet was over the top. I put it on eBay.

I also drive myself to work.

And I thought we could muddle through without the governor's personal chef - although I've got to admit that sometimes my kids sure miss her. I came to office promising to control spending - by request if possible and by veto if necessary.

Senator McCain also promises to use the power of veto in defense of the public interest - and as a chief executive, I can assure you it works.

Our state budget is under control.

We have a surplus.

And I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending: nearly half a billion dollars in vetoes.

I suspended the state fuel tax, and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress.

I told the Congress "thanks, but no thanks," for that Bridge to Nowhere.

If our state wanted a bridge, we'd build it ourselves. When oil and gas prices went up dramatically, and filled up the state treasury, I sent a large share of that revenue back where it belonged - directly to the people of Alaska.

And despite fierce opposition from oil company lobbyists, who kind of liked things the way they were, we broke their monopoly on power and resources.

As governor, I insisted on competition and basic fairness to end their control of our state and return it to the people.

I fought to bring about the largest private-sector infrastructure project in North American history.

And when that deal was struck, we began a nearly forty billion dollar natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence.

That pipeline, when the last section is laid and its valves are opened, will lead America one step farther away from dependence on dangerous foreign powers that do not have our interests at heart.

The stakes for our nation could not be higher.

When a hurricane strikes in the Gulf of Mexico, this country should not be so dependent on imported oil that we are forced to draw from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

And families cannot throw away more and more of their paychecks on gas and heating oil.

With Russia wanting to control a vital pipeline in the Caucasus, and to divide and intimidate our European allies by using energy as a weapon, we cannot leave ourselves at the mercy of foreign suppliers.

To confront the threat that Iran might seek to cut off nearly a fifth of world energy supplies ... or that terrorists might strike again at the Abqaiq facility in Saudi Arabia ... or that Venezuela might shut off its oil deliveries ... we Americans need to produce more of our own oil and gas.

And take it from a gal who knows the North Slope of Alaska: we've got lots of both.

Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems - as if we all didn't know that already.

But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all.

Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines ... build more new-clear plants ... create jobs with clean coal ... and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources.

We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers. "

Not all right wingers were very keen on her before this:

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/03/hot-mic-catches-gop-strategists-trashing-palin-pick/

Quote :
"
(CNN) – Prominent Republican analysts Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy became the latest victims of an open microphone Wednesday, caught after a segment on MSNBC trashing John McCain's pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Noonan, a Wall Street Journal columnist and former speechwriter for Ronald Reagan, and Murphy, a campaign strategist and onetime aide to John McCain, can both be heard expressing disbelief with the pick of Palin after they apparently thought they were in a commercial break.

“I come out of the blue swing-state governor world, Engler, Whitman, Thompson, Mitt Romney,” Murphy said during the mishap which has since been posted on YouTube. Murphy later flatly says of the pick, "It's not going to work."

Noonan is heard going even further, saying of the presidential race, "It's over."

"I think they went for this — excuse me– political bulls–t about narratives," Noonan also said. "Every time the Republicans do that, because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at, they blow it."

Murphy, who was a senior adviser to John McCain's 2000 presidential bid, also adds, "You know what's really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical."
"

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/03/rnc.democrats.reaction/index.html
Quote :
"
Democrats say Palin mimics Bush divisiveness
"The speech that [Alaska] Gov. Palin made was well delivered, but it was written by George Bush's speechwriter and sounds exactly like the same divisive, partisan attacks we've heard from George Bush for the last eight years," said Bill Burton, the campaign spokesman for Sen. Barack Obama.

"If Gov. Palin and John McCain want to define 'change' as voting with George Bush 90 percent of the time, that's their choice, but we don't think the American people are ready to take a 10 percent chance on change." "

Quote :
" "Barack Obama has said that families are 'off-limits', and we thought that John McCain agreed," Obama adviser Anita Dunn said. "But tonight, John McCain's handpicked attack dog, Mitt Romney, exposed the fake outrage that the Republicans have been peddling all week as the blatant hypocrisy that it is."

"The McCain team's disgusting attack on Barack Obama's wife shows they would rather generate false outrage to distract from their own problems than talk about the issues facing the American people," Dunn said. "Mitt Romney's attack on a candidate's wife is as pathetic as his failed presidential campaign." "

I find it remarkable when Romney and Giuliani slam the "East Coast Elites". Understandably, neither could deliver that jab with a straight face. We saw the same Giuliani that was caught completely stunned when his New York City background and sarcastic self-important style didn't awe the rest of America.

I can think of no better last post to make before a well-deserved break from TWW than one defending the Republican vice-presidential nominee Governor Sarah Palin. Concerning her speech last night, let me just say that a star is born.

Some of you here and all the other far-left Internet moonbats can keep on foaming about Palin's daughter's boyfriend's cousin or what-the-fuck-ever if you like. Palin, however, is going to keep talking to the American people--something she's now proved she's a natural doing.

Those of you on the left should be very concerned about November now. McCain has given the Republicans a historic ticket of their own to support--and support it they will, I'm sure.

As Dennis Miller said, and I'm paraphrasing, we may not win, but I'm happy to go down swinging with this dame. Indeed.

Here are just a few of the headlines about Palin's speech:
