Um, probably because they are overmatched at 4 of 5 spots on the floor. Villanova is simply a much more athletic and better team.

I've thought it all year, but Duke is 4th or 5th place playing night in and night out in the Big East...

Duke will return Scheyer, Smith, Henderson, Williams, Thomas, Zoubek, & Plumlee and add the better Plumlee (6'10") and Kelly (6'10").

I have never seen two Sweet 16 games with such poor shooting. Memphis was 18% at the 3 point line and Duke was 16-60 from the field. 16 for 60...there are several people that I know on TWW that could shoot better than 16-60 with Nova's defense.

I'm pretty certain Duke shot a similar percentage last year against West Virginia...there's a lot of theories but i think they just don't have the players right now to compete for a title, tonight that was never more evident...2009 recruiting class is ok with Kelly and Plumlee, but 2010 should make the team better as it looks like K is finally gonna bring in a legit point guard (Harrison Barnes i think?)

Also 2005 recruiting class that was ranked #1 in the country?.....fail
Paulus (serviceable career, but certainly did not live up to the marker of #1 PG in the class)
McRoberts (one good year, one mediocre year and hit the league)
Eric Boateng transferred to ASU after one year
Jamal Boykin transferred to Cal after one year
Marty Pocius played sparingly and is leaving the team with a year of eligibility left

Henderson is a likely lottery pick based on his athleticism and potential. I don't think K can guilt him into returning for his senior season. I think Singler will be back though.

I highly doubt Henderson will go pro. He hasn't shown consistency and still can't go left. I may be wrong though.

It's rumored that Lawson, Ellington, and Ed Davis are all leaning towards the NBA Draft as an aside.

Objectively, Henderson should be gone. He's nearly a unanimous Top 10 pick this year in a weak draft. He'd probably be Top 17 at best with next years field...

It's be foolish for him to stay... Singler should stay because he needs to bulk up and work on his inside game.

*** As far as UNC's players, Lawson has been wanting to go since he was a frosh. He's as good as gone. Davis is a FOOL if he goes now. He could easily develop in to a Top 5 pick with a more complete post game. Ellington, I can't get a read on. He's undersized and not as athletic as a Henderson. Late 1st round/early 2nd round pick at best...

EDIT: Actually, Ellington is 6'5"? Really... I thought he was 6'2"... he plays smaller than his size.

Lawson is gone. That's a given.

Back in January, Ellington wouldn't have been drafted at all but he's been on fire the last 15 games or so and has really improved his draft status. Like NyM said, he's undersized for a NBA 2 guard and not terribly athletic. He could really use another year but he'll be gone if he thinks he can slip into the first round.

Davis needs another year to develop his offensive game as he's still very raw. His rebounding and defense are already there. He and Brandan Wright are pretty similar as freshmen (Wright was slightly better) and leaving after one year hasn't turned out too well for him.

UNC does have a recent history of athletic one and dones that leave early (Wright and M. Williams). Davis has the most NBA potential of anyone on UNC's roster imo.

I guess I change my mind on Henderson. I see his flaws because he does the same thing every night, but athleticism alone will get him drafted.

Still kind of amazed Duke played so awful. I figured Nova would win as they were more athletic at every position, but Duke looked HORRIBLE. I can't figure out what's more disappointing, Duke's loss or Wake Forest's loss.

I figured Duke would get to the sweet sixteen but didn't think they'd come out of Boston w/ a W over Nova. Also didn't think they'd get the doors blown off like they did but apparently the Clemson game came back to haunt em. When Henderson struggles they have nobody that can step up and take over. How many times did Scheyer drive the lane just to get the ball slapped back in his face? Too many swingmen & no dominant big man as usual... Until we get a Sheldon Williams 2, i cant see Duke competing w/ teams that do

Villanova's gaurds were quicker, more athletic, simply better than what Duke had on the floor. They did play nearly flawless defense and forced Duke to take shots they didn't want to but there were a TON of uncontested shots from the perimeter that clanged the iron... alot of open looks.

Coach K needs to bring in a true low post player for the love of God..... maybe then we can get some offensive rebounds
