That is not what we are talking about.
But for the record, if they did try to pass something like that in NC, I would be right there supporting the rights of smokers. Very big difference in legislating public places and private homes. 1/4/2010 11:53:03 AM

as someone who has elected to sit out in bad weather just to avoid smokers

you didn't really answer the question (i was curious as to how long you've been stupid), but i understand that you're under a lot of stress from the symptoms associated with your body's withdrawal from a highly addictive and utterly pointless drug...and it's probably your time of the month, so i'll let it slide

I only ended up smoking regularly for a few months. I was a casual, occasional smoker for a long time before that (mostly when going out / interacting with friends that smoked while drinking, etc). Never smoked frequently enough to get addicted but that changed at some point. Was in a stressful stretch of time and stuck with it through then, and once I came out the other end and had some mental space I quit.
Drug's not pointless though. Shit feels good. Why the fuck do you think people do it?
And yes smoking habitually is not the smartest thing in the world, but people do it for all sorts of reasons. To be called stupid by a fucking web designer, though? lol 1/4/2010 12:21:35 PM

i'm pretty sure nicotine is physiologically addictive...trying to make the addiction subjective doesn't change its chemical properties or the effects of nicotine on your body
i know what you mean, though...i believe that the act of smoking is just as psychologically addictive as nicotine is, physiologically
Quote : | "Drug's not pointless though. Shit feels good. Why the fuck do you think people do it?" |
you know a lot of people who smoke one cigarette and decide it tastes sooooooooo good that they're going to light up a few more packs? of course not...that's because cigarettes taste like ASS and burned hair...you gotta smoke enough for the nicotine to take hold before you decide it's good, and only then it's because you've got enough of it flowing through your system
at least pot has immediate effects...i've never met a single person that was hooked on cigarettes (physiologically) after one ![](images/rolleyes.gif)

I kind of want to see exactly what happens when someone called the BUTTHURTLINE or whatever it is called to report a smoker.
Do the cops have to respond to that to write a ticket? Does the person making the call have to get the offender's personal info in order to serve them should they leave before the proper enforcers of the smoking ban arrive (which i am guessing will NOT be in a timely fashion, if at all)? 1/4/2010 12:24:58 PM

every establishment where smoking is banned gets 2 warnings before an actual ticket is issued. i'm guessing that business owner's are going to instruct their servers/bartenders to strictly enforce the law, just because they don't wanna risk getting fined.
i wonder if the ALE (or whichever agency it is) will be undercover in bars/restaurants to find people lighting up? 1/4/2010 12:27:48 PM

i, too, would like to know...i would assume that unless there's a cop nearby, no one does anything about it (and even then, i'd be surprised if a cop showed up)
more than likely, though, enough reports at the same location would get the property owner in trouble eventually (in that a cop might stop in now and then) and after a fine or two, the property owner would insist that the management stop allowing patrons to break the law

You said highly addictive. I would expect a highly addictive substance to have some withdrawal effects for someone like myself who has smoked a lot for the past two years. I have had no such effects.
Cocaine is highly addictive.

It will probably flesh out like it does here....
I've never seen or heard of any person or place being reported. And its give or take whether or not someone obeys the law or not. I've seen patrons, and bar owners smoking inside before.
The law is just going to end up being a strong suggestion 1/4/2010 12:33:08 PM
