Interesting both 2001 coaches are God-awful....Rod Barnes? Had two good seasons at Ole Miss and now coaches at Georgia State and we know Doh's fate.

I just saw Doherty on ESPN.com's basketball frontpage.. apparently taking SMU to 13-14 in the C-USA is good.. he did beat ECU though so that's cool.

Doherty pulled a Roy the other day and was really getting into it with some Memphis fans

Landesburg is good enough to carry their offense on certain nights.

Mike Scott is 13 pts and 7 reb on 51% shooting.

On top of that they have four really good three point shooters and some decent role players.

I'd say their talent is slightly better than ours overall due to the fact they have two LEGIT ACC players and we really only have one at this point.

This should be a good test for Sidney.

We're badly outsized and a little out talented but they are a super young team who makes a lot of mistakes.

Good coaching today could have us pull off a fairly large upset on the road and that would go a long way to show how much we've improved this year.

watch out for Julian Gamble tonight. he's coming off a big double-double against UVa and his minutes have gone up a ton in the second half of the conference schedule

his parents are staying at the same hotel as me and they struck up a conversation with me when they saw me in a State shirt. he's from Southern High in Durham. parents said he should be the Day 1 starter next year when Collins leaves

If we were just a LITTLE better we would have 5 additional wins this season. UF, Arizona, GT, UVA, and Clemson.

We'd have a good non conference resume and be 7-7 in the ACC fighting for a bubble bid.

You don't think we'll be a little better next year considering we lose almost nothing, our returners are a year older, our freshmen class is nice, Mays won't play anymore, and most other ACC teams are losing quite a bit of talent?

Really?

Um, did we watch the same UVa games, because we looked like shit in both of them.

UF and Arizona I will give you. "Playing a little better" doesn't make up for playing like a Southern Conference team for 90% of the GT and Clemson games and especially both UVa games.

^^ We could have easily won the first game against UVa. We simply went into a patented scoring drought and blew it. The 2nd game against UVa, we never had a chance.

While I like to imagine this as true, I still see Lowe finding minutes for Mays next year. Lowe seems very loyal to a fault with his players.

We were up TEN points in the 2nd half against UVA before we went into a ~10 minute scoring drought. The game was tied with like 4 minutes to go, how can you say we wouldn't have won if we'd played a little bit better.

The GT loss was an impressive effort actually. They were MUCH bigger than us and if not for an outstanding game by Peacock we would have had them.

The Clemson game if Scott Wood could hit an open jumper or Smith hits a FT we probably win the game.

How can you use games where we made 20 point comebacks against us...

We had Horner trying to guard big dudes in the Clemson game but as soon as we put Howell in we made a 20 point comeback.

We missed a retarded number of free throws against UVA the first time. Only 2nd to the UF game for most frustrating loss of the season.

Oh yeah we came back from huge deficits but still lost....no credit for close losses against teams we could beat (GTech/Clemson)

No better than having a late lead and losing either like UVA, UF at home. Loss is a loss.

I don't make outlandish predictions that don't even come close to being true and then hide for a few weeks. If, if, if, every fucking team can say if they did this or that they would have won more games. 90% of the Lowe defenders give nothing but excuses. PG, talent, Herb, his recruits, next year. I know that 4 straight bottom 3 ACC finishes wouldn't fly at most ACC schools regardless who was coming in next year.

[Edited on February 28, 2010 at 8:20 PM. Reason : Hell Leitao got fired and had 1 ACC regular season title in his 4 years]

90%? You like throwing out random percentages, don't you? Wasn't it 90% of the people in the stands were talking about Sidney? There was another 90%, iirc, can't remember now.

If you represent the Lowe haters, all you've got is wins vs losses. Your other arguments and comparisons are pretty lame.

^^Yeah wins versus losses isn't near as important as possible recruiting classes!

Uh we could argue about Lowe's stupid substitution patterns, fouling against Florida when they had hit 1 three, his use of timeouts at times, how badly ran his offense is, no production from Scott Wood and still plays 30 minutes a game, starting Horner over Howell, etc.....

Who do you want to take Wood's minutes?

His presence on the court is about the only thing keeping us from having a completely one-dimensional offense.

Someone that can help get rebounds, steals, assists, play defense etc. In other words, Josh Davis. Seriously I love Wood but he is not doing anything for this team right now. 0 rebounds yesterday in 20 minutes is unacceptable for a SF. If he's not hitting his shots, he is no help.

perhaps if the coach would have made the substitution earlier, we wouldn't have dug ourselves a 20 point hole

i'm not saying w/l's isn't important. it's by far the most important.

as far as your "arguments"... imo, lowe's substitution patterns really aren't questionable, especially as-of-late... his offense runs pretty well when the guards play well... there's really no one else to take Wood's mins and even when he's not scoring, he's still playing good basketball, especially for a freshman. sure, maybe davis should get a few more mins... and horner's a senior and our 2nd leading scorer. while i wish howell would get more of his mins, he's making his share of freshman mistakes and isn't ready for 30 mins.

I'm being serious here Dave Leitao was fired and his 4 year ACC record was 27-37. Sid's now is 19-43. Would you guys have wanted to keep Leitao more time if we were UVA?

Leitao brought in a horrible recruiting class his last year

if he would have recruited as well as Sid, he might still be there

Leitao seemed like a hard guy to like. He always had a horrible disposition on the sideline and berated his own players regularly. Sid is a likable guy and the players obviously love him. Plus...

-he wasn't a UVA legend
-he has no NBA connections
-he never had two 5 star guards committed (in fact, he never recruited any 5 star players)

He plays 20 feet from the basket, he's never going to get rebounds. You have to let him play outside and shoot or play inside and try to get rebounds. You can't have both. I like Davis and his energy, but he's too raw and doesn't contribute much offense. Even when Wood isn't scoring, he can scare defenses and open up the low post.

He's not that far away on defense. Degand had 3 and CJW had 6 yesterday playing similar minutes and being shorter.

^^Leitao had also been a decent head coach at a major program before at DePaul.

Wood was out rebounded in one game

OK

I'm not going to look up the numbers, but I'll bet my dick that he's averaging more boards than Degand or CJ

i've made it quite obvious that I absolutely loathe CJ Williams

having that said, I think he should start the rest of the season over Wood

Wood is a liability on both ends of the court right now

over his last 10 games, he's averaging 28.4 minutes, 5.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.5 turnovers

I wouldn't say Wood is a liability on defense. He's not a defensive stopper, but I've always been mildly impressed with him. Has a player lit him up all year?

he needs another year.....6'7" and 170 just doesn't cut it as a SF in the ACC

and no, I don't remember specifics. but I do remember several games where I yelled at the TV every time Scott got blown past and had to resort to the hack & slap defense method
