For obvious reasons she isn't releasing his name - police took that down as he was trying to unload the speakers and whatnot. If she wants me to tell you I'll post it later.

No the goal wasn't to COPY anything, we just thought it looked cool and that bringing some life to State would be fun/interesting/whatever. If you haven't noticed, for being the largest student body in the state of North Carolina, we're pretty fking boring.

i rarely do an electronica set

if i do, it's kinda punk electronica like crystal castles and javelin

never pure trance or house like a sasha set

just not my style

No, no, no, he's saying "act like an adult" as in "understand how people work", not "take more drugs". You're missing the point here.

Sure, vinylbandit is getting a bit overly aggressive about a matter of simple naivete, but his point is that it was pretty foolish to expect a shitload of people to attend a rave (especially a rave, since they're kind of notorious for the drugs) and all obey the sobriety rules. You can say it in the event all you want, but in that large a group, there are always going to be people who break that. Fact of life.

figured as much. i never really see you talk about electronic music

i'd bet 50 bucks that >40% of that either was intoxicated or had plans to be intoxicated

>85% if you include caffeine

Oh I completely agree; There's definitely people who are always going to do what they want -- she mentioned "no alcohol, no drugs" because if anyone WAS to bring it with them, she didn't want authorities to think she encouraged any of that if this got out of control.

covering your ass is always a good thing

but at this point you're admitting you know that a sober rave is a pipe dream

and you haven't PM'd me the name of the DJ

i just want to know who it is so i can give him shit for being so shortsighted

vinyl actually is a DJ, he probably does know the person, and almost definitely just wants to fuck with them a little bit on a personal level. Feel free to send said PM.

Yep the Hillsborough Hike and Krispy Kreme Challenge, pretty boring If you wanted to go to school to party rather than study ECU is right down the road.

^^^ I'm sure WRAL will publish his name in the morning
I still say you guys should have gone the iPod route. That would have been awesome as hell to see 3000+ people dancing in silence

The problem with iPods: no FM radio so people will likely be out of sync.

FM transmitter hooked to a live dj then 3K people with cheap personal fm radios would be epic.

Why does it matter if they're out of sync. Rave dancing all looks like this anyway:

Are you thinking a 3000+ people line dance to Achy Breaky Heart?

I don't know, but it's been said,
"You do or don't, and then you're dead."
So climb away, get higher son.
Never stray, just move ahead.

Never wander off the grass,
Sniff the dope and act an ass,
Just a soldier marching to
The golden rule of "puff and pass."

So pardon me *I'll wrap it up*
If I was speakin' out of class.
I'm just a grunt who's groovin' to
The golden rule of "puff and pass."

I don't know, but it's been said,
"You do or don't, and then you're dead."
So climb I will,
Or crawl or run,
Never stray just move ahead.

I don't know but it's been said,
"We'll rest forever when we're dead."

ABC11 just ran the story saying the students were orderly and there were no arrests. The story following the Rave was about a crime spree in Asheville involving UNC students damaging buildings and an ATM.

the cops started to get mad when everyone started jumping and going "oooooooooooooooooo" and then they got louder like "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" and then the crowd started chanting "PACK! PACK! PACK! PACK! OOOOOO PACK! PACK! PACK! PACK! OOOOOOOOOOOO! POWER PACK! POWER PACK! BACK THE PACK!" until a guy drove in and played a loud rockin rap song from his truck and things got crazy

don't be so picky...to be fair the goal-post was about 10 years ago. this is definitely bigger than the toilet paper rolling, which itself was 8 years ago.

Beating duke circa 2003 was probably near the scale of this, but even that was 7 years ago.

was the duke win the one where everyone took off running from dorms and then streams of people just met up with each other running towards hillsborough and formed a huge mass of people? or are you talking about the one where it was kinda snowing and some people met at the belltower?

the one where people formed a huge mass was crazy but i can't remember what it was reaction too. it was in 2002 (fall semester?)

Only a few of us know who the DJ was going to be. He's a student, not a "professional" in that sense, but I know that Lindsey had a number of people offer to do it, and I'm sure she chose the best one. He moved on to a house party (which was supposed to be the afterparty) after the mob moved to the belltower.

The way some people behaved last night is very unfortunate. We (they) had intentions of applying for a permit today for another try tonight, as one of us (them) knows the guy that would have to approve the permit and the police told us that we could get it fast-tracked, but at this point there is no plan to pursue any more permissions whatsoever.

We talked for a while last night about the actions of the mob and the resulting actions of the police, and what we were really hitting on was the fact that police, in a situation like this, really need to be able to interpret the law themselves. Anyone with half a damn brain could have told you that when people started chanting and yelling for music and getting pissed at the police for quelling the rave, the situation was going to head south. I guess they had no experience with this type of thing, but even to NOT allow music, they could have handled the situation much better. The plan was to kill the music after about an hour and tell people to disperse then. Had the Campus Police taken their heads out of their asses and allowed the music to be played they would have dodged a major bullet. Also, it has been said already, but props to the RPD for doing an excellent job cleaning up the mess that the Campus Police created last night.
