I guess I've heard the term strong or weak applied to both the first few picks and the overall depth independently. Either way theres never a year where people think that players 4-14 will be any good, and every year they point to the "strong classes" before and point out successful 4-14 picks.

i keep half-forgetting that we have 2 first round picks

probably because i have high confidence that the picks will suck

Yeah, draft seems weak as ever this year. I know nothing about the supposed international talent, but the college crop is weak. Had Sullinger, Barnes, etc came out, it'd be a different story. The only player I'd feel great about taking is Derrick Williams.

The one mock draft I've seen has Texas PF Tristan Thompson to the Bobcats. Mehh

the jimmer mock draft was from sporting news, so i wouldn't take too much stock in it

but if jordan can take a morrison, and a kwame twice, then i wouldn't put it past him to take another white scoring leader

Because the Bobcats aren't important enough to warrant their own offseason thread

Hired an AZN as GM today. I like it. Anything is an improvement from Higgins.

Higgins should have been fired just because his drafts look so terrible. though i guess some of the blame goes to mr. micro-management Michael Jordan.

i found this to be the oddest part about this hire:

Quote :
"Cho is known for his eclectic background - he has been an engineer and a lawyer - and his experience in quantitative analysis. Higgins said those are strengths the Bobcats need."

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/06/14/2377417/bobcats-add-analytical-gm.html

how does that translate at all to basketball? time will tell, i suppose.

it's (even more) obvious Rick Bonnell is out of his mind:

Quote :
"I'm certainly not suggesting those are the only three players they like. But in this draft, where it's so challenging to predict an order, might it make sense to go ahead and pick Singleton ninth and Brooks or Vucevic 19th? Those might be "reaches'' according to some draft pundit, but in a murky draft, why not trust your own instincts? "

http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_nba/2011/06/quick-thoughts-from-the-workout.html

The problem is, the biggest need is for a 3 point shooter and a scoring type guard, or maybe a scoring small forward. He has written multiple articles, all saying as much, directly from Paul Silas' mouth. So then he goes and suggests they take a defensive SF, or a rebounding PF. i'll take his damn job, i could do much better.

first reaction is i wouldnt mind Singleton at 9 since it doesn't look like he'd last to 19

yeah i would be ok with that, apparently his offensive game is beginning to catch up to his defensive game.

my point was that Bonnell writes all these articles about what the 'Cats need (3 point shooting), then he suggests something that is just about the exact opposite (Singleton)

1) I agree with bozo's general sentiments about the draft hype but I will say this year's is particularly weak at the top. I think a lot of that is because of the likely lockout. Everyone who could went pro last year, and many who could this year are sticking around one more year.

2) I love Biyombo because he could be a potential defensive superstar in this league. I'd take him at #9 and kill for him at #19. I also really like Jordan Hamilton he seems like a solid offensive player and a great defender. Also, I like the flexibility he seems to have to play/defend the 2 and 3. Jackson is on his last legs and we have minutes open from the Wallace trade. Chris Singleton I could definitely get behind. Again, he's a two way player. The way to win in the NBA is to get guys who play both ways (G.Wallace, Deron, etc) or are legitimate superstars at one of the ends (Durant, Ibaka, etc).

That being said I think we'll take Marcus Morris even though our best player Tyrus Thomas is a young, quality, PF with a long contract.

3) Of course Diaw took the money. He'd get like 2 years $9 million from most teams and MAYBE 5 yrs, $30 if some dumb team were really desperate.

4) The new GM is a quantitative analysis guy. All the leading NBA minds are now. Look at Dallas for instance who just won the championship. A few years ago it was only Darryl Morey but now it's pretty prevalent throughout the top teams front offices. Surprisingly, basketball is almost as easy to evaluate as baseball with quantative analysis. That's why I talk about it so much.

5) Lastly, I bet Vince Carter ends up as a Bobcat. He probably won't get a huge payday and we have the space to give him like 5 years, $40 million. He's washed up but he's still playable and he'd be slightly marketable for a franchise that has never done a good job marketing itself. In the long run it'd be a terrible move to give him that many years or that much money, but I could see Jordan and co. doing it. Unless the Asian has a say.

The team is going to give Gerald Henderson every opportunity to blossom. No way in hell they sign a fat lazy malcontent like Carter to block his path. Give me two solid rookies this year, a shit record and a top 6 pick next year, and maybe we can finally start to contend in 2013.

"Part of the reason I'm here is to offer unsolicited advice.

Four times I have recommended that the Bobcats draft a particular player.

In 2005, I wrote they should trade the fifth and 13th picks, move up to No. 3 and take Wake Forest guard Chris Paul. The trade was available. They took North Carolina's Raymond Felton and Scott May.

In 2006, I wrote they should use the third pick on Washington guard Brandon Roy. They took Gonzaga forward Adam Morrison.

In 2008, I wrote they should use the ninth pick on Texas point guard D.J. Augustin. They should have taken Stanford center Brook Lopez. They took Augustin.

In 2009, I wrote that they should use the 12th pick on Pittsburgh big man DeJuan Blair. Because of concerns about his knees, Blair didn't go until - let's check - 37. The Bobcats took Duke guard Gerald Henderson. Blair has the superior career, but Henderson probably has the superior potential.

My credibility is good."

only Bonnell could have written this piece of fine journalism, bragging about how smart he is in hindsight (no author is listed in the article).

you guys remember Scott May? he was the next great PF.

you'd think somebody that old, who announced all of Steph's games at Davidson, would be able to call the motherfucker Dell Curry, instead of DALE CURRY

2 seconds later, the Bobcats draft Brandon Wright.
