Yep. It really is nothing more than a spin of the roulette wheel that this thing at least pulls back a little before another thrust higher. It's usually a terrible idea to go against a strong trend which is why I put such a small amount on this trade.

With the price where it is I would have just sold a naked call at 16 instead of going out of pocket. On the other hand I never do options on such a short time period unless I'm betting on an earnings report.

I'd rather be a seller myself but with buying a put my max loss is defined, I need not bother with setting stops which just don't work well with options because of the wide bid/ask (on everything except the most liquid of stocks). With a call if this thing continues to trend hard then I have to bother with setting some sort of a stop loss and I'm going to eat .05 (at least) on the b/a spread + I'm exposed to a gapped open + the extra commission to transact the trade.

It's such a lame trade profit/loss/capital wise I ordinarily wouldn't put it on but I was a little bored today and figured the only way I keep following this stock is if I make it count in some way.

Awesome write up on the investigation/prosecution of Raj Rajaratnam, recently convicted of insider trading while heading The Galleon hedge fund.

My Starbucks stock has gone up 50% since I bought it. Winning. Too bad that only makes like a $30 increase.

This looks interesting. Gives you crude oil exposure and equity exposure of oil companies.

^ Not worth it. You could find cheaper ways to produce equity/oil exposure without eating the 85bp mgmt fee. Simplest move - go with SPY for 50% that's going to be sitting in the S&P 500.

For the most part equity linked ETNs are not worth it (we rolled out a few - DOD, SETI, WIDEMOAT, etc - a few years ago and the market never took off) - commodity linked ETNs on the other hand are OK.

You guys think we are going to see some profit taking tomorrow or will the apparent rally continue? Trying to decide what to do with some of my short term holdings.

Its not solely an equity linked ETN, its a hybrid that includes crude futures, ie commodity....which was the point of the article. It provides beta exposure, which is what you suggested with SPY, and provide an inflation hedge through commodity futures. So basically you agree with this investment in a round about way (aside from the mgmt fee)

I've got LINC and I've had it for a couple months. Well it was around $17 and I said no way it'll get beyond $17.50 so I sold a call. Then Friday it went up almost 9% to $18.60. Bad call!!

Oh well, bought in at 15.7, so I guess either way I make some money... but now I've got to wait until end of August.

I use eTrade. It's $9.95 per trade though and there are cheaper options, but their mobile app is pretty awesome.

I use tradeking $4.95 per trade. I am closing my etrade account as it's the same info for twice the cost per trade. PM me and I can send you an invite and we can both get $50 if you open an account. I learned through their learning center and webinars.

Last week was bizarre I gotta admit. All the economic news was bad and the market went on a tear. I guess short term a lot of people thought it was oversold. Its possible the recession has already begun why are we buying stocks

My stop limit triggered at ~ 15.50. I wasn't ready to get out yet so i bought back in this morning at ~ 16.15. I knew I should have set my limit for larger volatility but I only missed 4% and my trading fee.

At this point I don't think SOLR is rising on anything other than hype, it seems way overbought.

Kitco is what I've used in the past. You can buy from local vendors, but there is a premium for physical metal. For instance, you're probably not going to be able to find silver rounds for less than 45 an ounce, despite the fact that spot silver is at ~35. Only some of that is profit on the part of the local vendor. Spot silver has been manipulated by various actors, and COMEX doesn't actually have as much silver as most people thought, so you've got two separate prices for readily deliverable PMs and "paper" PMs.

I don't need to have physical bullion. Anyone use those where they keep it in some vault for you?

The problem with physical bullion is that you then have to worry about people like Auric Goldfinger irradiating your stockpile to increase the value of their own.

S&P Would Lower U.S. Credit Rating to D on Failure to Increase Debt Limit

June 30 (Bloomberg) -- Jerome Fons, an executive vice president at Kroll Bond Ratings Inc., discusses the outlook for the U.S. credit rating if the government fails to increase the debt limit, leading to a default. Standard & Poor’s said it would lower the U.S.'s sovereign top-level AAA ranking to D and Moody’s Investors Service said it will probably reduce its rating if the U.S. can't pay its debt. Fons speaks with Erik Schatzker on Bloomberg Television's "InsideTrack." (Source: Bloomberg)

part of my EDC got trailing stopped out... overall i'm still 'risk on' since my last post.

come late August, September, and October, Greece will rear its ugly head again, and so will Portugal and maybe even Spain. that selloff will likely present another 6 week or more decline leading to buying opportunities that you can then ride into the end of the year.

i'm looking to add TYH soon and/or on down days and am even reluctantly considering FAS.

Closing out half of my GT position today. Looking at picking up either BAC or a consumer disc. like a retail clothing holding. Any thoughts or suggestions? It would likely be a 1-3 month holding (or less if I it pops early). I am thinking that at some point financials have to take off a bit, but not sure if I want to sit around and wait for it.

I just don't get how this isn't the definition of front running. It would be great if the SEC would grow a fucking spine and put a stop to this shit.
