So, was RW ticked that TOB wouldn't let him waiver on his return and made MG the starter for the future?

I don't have any hard feelings for Wilson at all, TOB made it clear he wasn't going to start so he moved on. I wish he didn't but I understand him.
I am though.
As long as he doesn't go to another ACC school. I actually hope TOB wouldn't give him a release to go to another ACC school.

You don't have to sit out a year if you've graduated.

We'll agree to disagree. When you tell a 1st team All-ACC QB (which we've had what, 2-3 of in our program history?) that he'll be holding a clipboard because he failed to attend spring practice, then you pushed him out.
It's going to hurt like hell to see him on Sportscenter, and see us rollin' the dice again for the Preparation-H Bowl.

I see this as TOB making plans to not have two years of back-to-back new starting QBs. If RW had come back, Glennon would have one year under center and then someone else would have to replace him the year after. This way, Glennon gets 2 years and will be a veteran starting QB which will hopefully help in the long term.

1) Some of you need to read what RW actually said: "“Although I remain undecided on the option of playing college football this coming season, I believe it is in the best interest of the players and coaches involved to end any speculation of my return to the Wolfpack."
What part of this says he wants to play for us and we are pushing him out the door????
2) TOB said Glennon was our starter. Do you think he saying that for the hell of it?
3) RW was a 4th round pick and is now playing Single-A ball not short season rookie league
One of the mods summed it up pretty well:
Quote : | " rswilli2 wrote: I have no idea why some of you folks are surprised in the least. O'Brien made it clear that he needed a commitment from Wilson, and that he wasn't going to just keep handing the reins over to him when Glennon was out there in the spring and summer earning the job. This is the correct decision for NC State. Glennon starting with Wilson on the sidelines was going to do nothing but cause an enormous distraction and headache that neither the players or coaches needed. Now Glennon can play the position without looking over his shoulder after every mistake." |

He participated in Senior Day and got a great send-off, IMO.
While the situation just seems like it sucks, what are we really losing? TOB was already going to move forward (which is the best possible thing he can do) with Glennon and RW was all but completely committed to baseball. I think that the timing of it coming after Harrow's release is making this sting more than it should, but this is not a disaster by any means.

TOB was damned if he did, damned if he didn't.
Rumor was that Glennon was going to transfer if Russell came back (which you can't blame him for). Which would have been fine (not ideal, but fine) if Russell would commit to coming back.
But Russell wouldn't commit, so TOB was staring down the possibility of Glennon transferring and then Russell deciding to stick with baseball or tearing up his knee playing baseball or whatever. I don't think anyone was ready for Brosius era.
It sucks that it went down this way, and Russell will probably win the national championship and the Heisman and shit somewhere else, but TOB made the "team first" decision here. 4/29/2011 9:43:53 PM |
msb2ncsu All American 14033 Posts user info edit post |
I don't understand why everyone thinks this is negative. RW is doing this because he understands the distraction his dual sport status causes. Hell, RW even stated he has no idea if he even wants to play anymore and because of that very reason he acknowledges that its not fair to TOB, Glennon, and the rest of the team. This was the only way they could make it clear that Glennon is definitely the starter and that even the hint of RW coming back will not change things. RW is not bitter or angry with TOB. He did this to make things easier for the team. Seriously, this is pretty much the ultimate class move. 4/29/2011 9:51:18 PM |

1. THIS WAS RUSSELL'S DECISION 2. TOB would gladly have Russell play if Russell was willing to commit to football, HE WASN'T. TOB had to do what IS BEST FOR THE PROGRAM: MOVE ON. 3. Some of you are giving Russell a little too much credit as a QB 4. The same ones crying over this are the same ones that would be crying over back to back first year QB's

he isnt a world beater but he was consistently top 3 in the ACC and won many game singlehandedly. anyone that expects glennon to match his output this year should buy a lottery ticket.

You people confuse the hell out of me. You like TOB because he's hard nose, nonsense and say it like it is. But then you roll over on your belly to let one player run your program. Can't have it both ways. It's one thing if RW said after the season that he wants to come back. But he's left us in the wind for 6 months. Believe it or not but TOB has a football team to run.
I love RW and what's he's done for us. I think he's a great guy. But he's held us hostage for the last few months. Glennon has worked in the offseason to take charge of this team. TOB would look like a schmuck if he let RW start after publicly announcing Glennon as the starter. 4/29/2011 11:30:02 PM |

They'll probably blame TOB for running him off with comments about how he'd be the second string even if he did come back... of course what do you want TOB to do in that situation. He took a clear definitive direction.

The minute Wilson puts on another team's jersey is the minute TOB should be fired.
I dont care WHEN Wilson decides to come back, you let him.
How is it that MUCH better teams are fine with Russ coming in to a brand new system, and TOB thinks russ needs more time to learn the offense he has ran for 3 yrs and with our joke of a schedule?
Good thing we didnt have TOB sooner. He would have made Rivers transfer so we can play Jay Davis.
And I dont want to sound like im down on Glennon. He seems like a great kid and has a ton of talent. He is our QB now and I support him, but I DONT support the HC. 4/29/2011 11:46:51 PM |
