^^ I skimmed your post, so I'm sure I missing something, but I just think your critiques in general are a little ridiculous. I'm not against dissecting a movie, but the things you were complaining about were trivial...IMO of course.

Yeah, some of it was regarding details more so than big stuff. But I think details are what can make a good movie great or what would be a good movie not so good. I think they consistently messed up on small things enough that it took away from the experience for me.

If you havent read the books

What do you think they'll name their children? Wasn't addressed at all, but I like the idea of Finnick & Rue.

Finnick already has a son to carry on his name. But Katniss's father's name was lost, so that would be a good choice. Although, we will probably never have an answer to this question.

Saw the movie today, was a huge fan of the books and went in wanting to like it but knowing it couldn't really replicate how the book flowed. Overall, I liked it a lot as a movie and I am glad they didn't try to overdo Katniss thinking things over in her head since it wouldn't translate as well. Also liked the parts where they cut away from Katniss and showed Snow and others discussing things. Thought the casting was pretty awesome, some of the people/places were almost exactly how I pictured them in my head when reading.

Not as good as the book but I think it was really good as a movie if you don't try to be one of those super cool people who always dislike movies based on books.

the short of it is; imo, the big deal right now is that it was so successful. The movie itself is good, but not great. And it's certainly not a "you've got to see this movie" situation based on the movie itself. But it is entertaining and enjoyable.

as for why it's so successful:
1) It has an immense built-in audience because it's based on a book series that is very popular with the age-range that is also a big portion of the movie-going crowd.

2) It has good production value, a good cast, was widely marketed, and has a PG13 rating (which makes it OK for kids and grown-up enough for adults to be interested).

3) It really didn't have much competition opening up with it that weekend, and nothing really big had been out in a while -- at least nothing that a lot of people went to see (John Carter had a ton of marketing but it bombed, even though it's a decent movie).

I think all of that resulted in a HUGE opening weekend, which in and of itself will drive/has driven more people to see it just to see what the big deal is.... driving sales up even further.

The movie was great, but not sure if it was worth watching on the big screen.

Quote :
"After successfully filming the first Hunger Games film in the mountains of North Carolina, Lionsgate studio has decided to film some of the urban scenes for the next two Hunger Games sequels in Downtown Raleigh.

This means that the stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson Woody Harrelson and Liam Hemsworth will be walking Hargett, Fayetteville and Wlimington Streets a lot in the next few years.

I can see a Dystopian version of the Raleigh skyline already with a shattered Shimmer Wall and a warehouse district crawling with Peacekeepers."

I enjoyed it. Katniss didn't annoy nearly as much as she did in the books. I wish the fight scenes had been a little less shaky cam. Rue was adorable.

i'm not too cool so i wouldn't hesitate to run across the street and ask for a picture if i saw one of them hanging around downtown. they're so young they probably aren't too annoyed by it all yet.

Her endeavors are well documented. To be fair, I'd be irritated too if teachers started saying "10 points Griffindor!" every time I answered a question in class.

Sorry, I don't feel bad for anyone who knowingly walks into a hugely popular role, makes millions, and then expects to live their life as if they weren't the face associated with a nearly household name.

Why dont the peacekeepers or troops carry guns? If they really want to keep the districts in line, why not arm your soldiers and make it one sided....like Syria.

I'd seen that a bit ago, and wondered what impact (if any) it would have on filming movies 2 and 3. When are those slated to begin/end?

I just finished the third book in the trilogy. Good series. I think the plot gets better and less predictable later in the series. Definitely looking forward to the next two.

A friend offered me a free ticket so I saw it a second time. The shaky camera didn't bother me at all this time around and I liked the movie as a whole much better.

I think this was because I was no longer looking for things that were different from the book, I could just focus on the movie as a stand alone work.

So why didnt she just shoot the fruit out of the tree to blow up the land mines while all the others were still around? Why use the signal fire tactic? Just blow em all up and be done with it.

Alternatively, why would they set-up their sheltar that close to the land mine blast radius?

all they knew was that the careers had all the gear in a big pile. the fire distraction was set up b/c prior to going neither she nor rue knew landmines were there. when she got there she assessed there were landmines. she didn't know the safe path like foxface, so triggering the mines and taking whatever was salvageable was the only option.

Is the area man made or real? For instance, the birds they used to signal, the animals they kill for food, ect? They made those dog creatures appear pretty quick. If they'd have shot one, would they be able to eat it or would it turn to dust like other movies?

So why do the city districts even need the agriculture and mining districts if they can just make up food or energy sources?

^I think that's right. They didn't materialize food out of thin air, they sent it in from the districts (how Katniss knew who to thank for the bread). The arena is both man made, but using things produced in districts, or that come about naturally.

WTF!!!!! I have been listening the to audiobooks on Youtube. I only have about 1.5 hours left to go on the 3rd book to finish the series... and it's FUCKING DELETED off of youtube!?!?! The audio books are about 11 hours each book, so I've listened to over 30 FUCKING HOURS, and it's gone.

*SPOILER*

I left off at the part where Katniss was walking through Snow's mansion and came across the rose garden. This was after the invasion of the Capital. I NEED to know how it ends!!!

there's this place called a library. there are also book stores. you don't even have to buy the book, you can sit down on the ground and read it right there.
