as much as i dont really like AAPL long term i took the plunge friday and bought in at $577.

PE of 13 now and it normally doesn't dip below 14. Left enough behind that i can double down if I'm early

Dividend yield is up to 1.8% now. Not that their dividend yield has anything to do with the value of the stock, but it is something to consider because it puts it on the buying radars of a lot of "value" funds that would love to own more apple but couldnt justify it at higher valuations...

haha, I bought that one prob 4-5 years ago and sold just a few months before it crashed.

^^^ That's pretty much me. Well, I don't dislike it horribly long term, but I've had a helluva run with it and want to put the money somewhere else...I bought at ~$105 and again at ~$175; I was waiting for it to go back up to near $700 and then sell. Now that it's at $575, with such a low P/E, I actually will probably buy some more. That will put me awfully heavily invested in them (I already have more AAPL than any other stock, I'm pretty sure), but I just don't see how you can lose with a company like AAPL being sold at those valuations and paying a 1.8% dividend.

I bought some more SPY and AAPL on Thursday.

^^ at these P/Es, with a decent little dividend to boot, I just don't see how you can lose with AAPL.

Idk man, i think it may be a good time to stay away from all of the common dividend names. Divs are going to get punished even more by taxes so i would suspect some eventual sell off caused by this. It'll likely be a gradual underperformance caused by that idiosyncratic event.

If you have to be long going forward, i like non-div paying mid caps paired with long dated xlf puts (strikes 10-14) which can be acquired on the cheap.

The way you can lose with AAPL is that it is the largest hedge fund holding in the world by over 2:1. Im not saying that it cant outperform and get it all back, but because all of the smart money moves this name, it is a bit scary on the downside. While AAPL's business is obv strong and it's fundamentals look good, one thing not taken into consideration is the way a stock's multiple should be viewed during times of high market volatility.

.im hoping at least one person read this and took my advice on the high div yield stocks. they are getting crushed. significant underperformance.

the XLF puts are up 15%-20% across the option chain this week

it's not worth buying here unless you are pairing your long positions with some downside protection

so for most investors that prefer to simply be long equities, it is probably better to be on the sidelines

Thats why i was saying if you do that, buy some downside protection for the short term. Most of the people in this thread look at AAPL as a long term investment, so if you want to take some of the edge off of this general market sell off then you need to pair it with a negative delta position (it doesnt have to be options if thats not your thing. You could use any of the short S&P 500 etf's etc to reduce the delta exposure short term and sell them back as things stabilize).

What i would do is look at AAPL's beta and use that as a guide to hedge some of your long AAPL

For those in the options game, i like the SBUX Dec 49 handle straddle. You can pay about 3.30 for it now. Dec 5th they have their big investor conference and product presentation and may guide on earnings estimates

I had some put to me at $50 and sold Dec calls at $52.5. They announced their acquisition of Teavana yesterday, so there's good potential upside.
