I took it at 9:1 odds moron, i only need to win 10% of the time to break even or have a CLOSE series like 20% of the time to breakeven on a hedge.

30:1 on Philly to win in 6. At 30:1 part of the intrinsic value of the bet is injury probabilities.

Idiotic is the wrong word. Substitute genius. I picked Memphis in 6 over SAS last year.

This isn't a fluke. I OWN the NBA playoffs. I'm seriously considering just flying to Vegas and putting like $30k on it next year because it's such easy money.

If the Nuggets win tonight I will be KILLING it.

I'm unhedged for now, but will hedge if they take any sort of a working lead (7-8+) early. I don't think they're getting enough respect tonight only favored by 3.

This is the type of game the Lakers might not go all out in but I don't trust the Nuggets late in the game after their struggles last game.

this is a game the Nuggets should definitely win...at home, after winning on the road...Kobe has a stomach flu and its high altitude

this is also the type of game Kobe usually drops 46 points in and leads his team to victory

should be a good one

yeah i think this game has more potential than normal to be a Nuggets blowout or a close Lakers win if they play REALLY gutty.

Hard to know how the Lakers will respond to Game 5.

Over the years the Lakers have been the type of team who doesn't play with a killer instinct in the playoffs until they feel threatened.

After the game 5 loss I'm sure they have a little chip on their shoulder, but they might be content to take it to game 7 if things don't go well early for them.

On the other hand, if they can keep the game close for the first 3 quarters, the Nuggets are ineffective once the game switches to halfcourt.

What a VINTAGE Garnett game.

26 pts, 14 reb, 2 ast, 3 stl, 5 blk. On 10-19 Fg, 8-10 FT

Doesn't get any better than that. Only 1 TO too. That's Kevin Garnett 2001 numbers right there.

Garnett had a great season. He's not a DOMINANT player like he was 10 years ago but he's still a top PF and a good C.

But that game tonight was just filthy

Josh Smith probably shouldn't take 20 ft jump shots when it's a one point game and there's 12 seconds left on the shot clock.

I'm also shocked Pierce wasn't called for a foul on that block at the end. Great block and good play. But I thought he got him with the body. That would have normally been called at another point in the game.

Theres no way you're going to convince anyone picking philly was smart. Theres no way there was a 1 in 9 chance of rose and noah getting hurt. if you replayed the series 30 times. Several of those times would involve a philly player getting hurt. It was bad from a probability point of view but lightning struck twice on your behalf.

i'm wondering how UNC fans will react to Lawson's performance tonight

after all, they have been quick today to say Chris Hawkins' arrest has nothing to do with UNC since he hasn't been a student there in 8 years

even though he was selling coke to their players less than 2 years ago

I agree with you. They aren't that good. They're good enough to beat middling teams like the Lakers, but they don't stand a chance vs real teams.

The castle is the "secret" fraternity at UNC, kinda like the fraternity Mike Glennon is in at NC State, except the one at state doesn't have a badass $1 million house that looks like a castle.

You thought LA was bad because of Kobe and Kobe has had a Jordan type of series. You thought Gasol and Bynum were better than Kobe when they have been the worst big men on the floor.

Your blind analysis doesn't mean anything when it doesn't match the process and blindly matches the results.

You can't say the lakers will lose because of Kobe and then gloat when they lose because of their two good players not showing up while Kobe dominates.

I rather know what I'm talking about and be wrong in hindsight than to get lucky like the 3rd grade girl who won the bracket pool because Butler had a cute-looking mascot.

Kobe hasn't been terrible I agree, but he hasn't really hurt me either.

44% FG and 3.4 turnovers/game doesn't worry me.

The worry in this series is George Karl sitting highly productive players like Birdman and Koufos while playing Harrington.

This thing should've been over tonight but Denver is getting Karl'd again for the ~7th year in a row. Guy has consistently been a poor coach his entire career.

Its like everything you say is the opposite. Karl is a hall of fame level coach and has taken guys like mcgee who were terrible in dc to play at the highest level or at least better than bynum who is pretty unpredictable.

In the words of En Vogue: "Free your mind and the rest will follow"

You're literally insane.

Karl has ruined promising Nuggets teams for ~7 years. He destroyed several great Sonics teams. He placed 5th in the Olympics with a team of NBA all stars.

The guy has no fucking clue.

You seriously need to open your mind to the idea of realism.

In case you're wondering, statistical studies have shown over the past two decades the ONLY coaches who have added a significant amount of value to teams are Phil Jackson and Gregg Poppovich.

Those two names shouldn't strike you as weird. Both teams have overachieved based on their talent level.

I think you could make a solid case for Carlisle last year as they went through several tough series and he did a good job overall. But look what he did this year refusing to sit Dirk, refusing to play B.Wright, etc. Inconsistent.

I remember Popp responded to a message i sent him on ESPN.com in 1997 after they won the lottery where i basically said "everyone knows you're taking Tim Duncan over Keith Van Horn, but has anyone offered you a "Chris Webber deal" where they offer you 3 first round draft picks + a top draft pick?

His answer was so gay it was like "We are always looking to improve our team, we haven't made a decision on who we'd pick and of course we'll entertain all trade offers."

My grandmother (huge bball fan, played cbk) was like you didnt talk to their coach that wasn't him. Old people are so skeptical of the internet. That's why online sales havent taken off yet.

The player face likes only take shots when they have perfect position to make them. If I only took 100% layups, I would shoot 90+ fg%. The reality is that there is a 24 second shot clock and the odds of a team getting the exact shot they want are slim. There is no way you can feed your post in good position every possession. You get one chance to get a good post and if it doesn't work out, you will have to take a low% shot or hope the defense makes a huge mistake or misses a rotation.

With your logic it is a better idea to hold the ball and take a shot clock violation than hoist up a low% shot at the end of the clock and damage your fg% since fg% is more important than getting the shot off in time. Also, when guards force entry passes and get turnovers by trying to force feed guys who shoot really high %s but have to shoot the ball in a certain place at a certain time, is it really killing the team? would it just be better to not try ally oops or lob passes that would lead to 100% shots since it risks turning the ball over and making you a negative wp48 player?

First of all, WP/48 is controlled by the position the player plays. So all the limitations and advantages of a "position" are already controlled for.

And turnovers are absolutely controlled for. They are huge negatives.

I've argued with rally plenty of times in the past and still do now. But you can't argue with stats. It's a good practice to look a players info up before you post. It would clean this board up a bit if everyone did that.

Spurs and Thunder have to be licking their chops as their next opponents continue to get beat up in 6 and 7 game series. Spurs especially since they're all 40 years old. I fully predict both to easily dispatch of their next opponents in 5 games, maybe 6. Duncan and Co. realize this may be their last legit shot so I expect no mercy.

^^^ i used to belive in stats. then in high school, i had a game where i scored 4 points for our team...and scored a basket in the wrong hoop for the other team (it was a good shot though, contested 15-foot jumper). so i basically scored a net of 2 points for my team. newspaper the next day had me down for 6 points.

since then, i don't believe in stats. only the eye test. because stats will say i scored 6 points. but the eye test will also show that i was a total dumbass.
