Trump said we got the remains of our soldiers a few weeks ago. It would be imperialistic and war-mongering to say he lied about that and then the NKs didn’t even show up to a planned meeting about it so I won’t.

I have no issues with this. Yes, it’s a dumb photo op borne out of his narcissism but as long as we can run out the Trump clock without a catastrophe on the Korean Peninsula we can get an adult in there to conduct real diplomacy.

But this seems like trump has no concept of what’s required... who takes their children and sycophantic friend to make some of the most important foreign policy talks with a global impact? How is South Korea letting this happen?

Every member of the political establishment wants war or total capitulation so they aren't going to be of any help in negotiations. This is why its gone on for so long. You had to use outsiders. Even if it was Dennis Rodman. You could probably solve most of the world's major problems by simply involving real people instead of the same politicians who have failed repeatedly for several decades.

South Korea is moderate now. They've wanted to warm relations with the North for a long time but the US has actually been in the way with its ridiculously unreasonable demands. The war mongers lost control over the country a long time ago and Moon was elected on the premise that he would normalize relations with the north. They want peace. This NYT reported deal of eliminating sanctions and recognizing NK as a nuclear state in exchange for a development freeze would be fair and a win for everyone except the military industrial complex. A potential legacy achievement for Trump.
