when sucking statistics dick goes wrong
seriously though, it seems like most of what i'd call "glass half empty" State bball fans in this thread are just expecting the mythic "NC State shit" and are shortsighted enough to dwell on it, but can actually appreciate wins and want us to do well
whereas guys like face and skoal can are so caught up in advanced stats because it makes them feel smart, that they'd rather justify 9 wins in a row as statistical outliers than admit that despite our defensive issues, we actually ARE a very good team

How much do they weight covering the spread in NCAA seedings? Is there a chance we might slip a spot in the ACC if we don't cover against Maryland? 1/9/2013 10:40:59 PM |

This thread was painful to read.
People were already complaining in the first 5 minutes about "why can't we just put a team away quick for once". Everyone wants things fast and painless...comparable to America in general I guess.
I think a lot of you need to watch other "top" teams. Games are rarely put away by the 25-30th minute (let alone the fucking 5th minute). See tonight with Cuse/Providence & Kansas/Iowa St, Michigan/Nebraska.
Plenty of things this team needs to work on, but a lot of fans point this out in such a childish way. I, for one, am very happy about the effort & win 1/9/2013 11:03:33 PM |

lets just limit the number of facepalm plays and go from there
refs aside, you got to play with that .. it's part of the game.
we finally have talent on a team that should avoid the most possible facepalms
we avoid facepalms, we do well

^perhaps...but whats the fewest teams the ACC has sent to the dance in the last 20 years or so, 4 or 5?
people last year were hoping for late regular season losses because an extra wednesday game would somehow help us overall by getting a supposedly easy win over a lower tier ACC team...we nailbited our way into the NCAA tourney and had a great run
i'd gladly take a 3rd or 4th ACC finish and a deep NCAA tourney run over a 1st or 2nd place regular season finish and first weekend exit
however I think we're better than either of those scenarios over the course of the season 1/9/2013 11:27:33 PM |

That's my point. Other teams looked to be taking the mantle of 2nd best but have fallen off, vt, umd, Uva. Miami and State are the only teams that haven't choked or collapsed yet.

not that i consider losing a conference game as collapsing, but we're CLEARLY the 2nd best team in the conference right now

2-0 with 16 to go means 2-16 (lol) is worst case, 18-0 (lol) is best case
i fully expect us to win over a dozen conference games
we can all agree our performance, win or lose, on saturday will give us a better idea of the season to come 1/9/2013 11:39:01 PM |

is FACE serious? I don't have time to read his posts. We shot over 50 percent against G tech and noone else has done that this year. NO ONE. We also scored over 70, only one other team has. In fact we probably should have been closer to 90. WTF. 1/10/2013 1:46:09 AM |

i think face ignores our offense since its too good for a stat nerd to criticize, so he only chooses to focus on our defense
and our defensive criticisms would be a lot more valid if we hadnt, i dunno, won 9 straight games 1/10/2013 1:49:51 AM |

we still haven't played a good team since michigan. we will see how much we really have improved. we should be at least a very close game at home against duke. I'll give us +3 on being disappointed or not. 1/10/2013 2:38:04 AM |

Seriously both Leslie and Howell should not be allowed to shoot beyond the paint. Both guys took ill-advised shots that had no chance of going in and without them in the paint, we have no chance at an offensive board. They are lucky we have no one to back them up so they don't lose PT over bone-headed plays like that.
As for Duke, they will be our first really good team since UM. Yes the win up in NYC against UConn was great, but UConn is a bubble team at best. Hopefully our guys will show up and play well in the 1st half as both Duke and State are excellent 2nd half teams and pretty mediocre 1st half teams. I am worried as hell about us getting in foul trouble with Duke.

Kenpom has Stanford(51) more highly rated than Uconn(54). And UCONN would be much better than a bubble team if the season ended today (and they were eligible). 1/10/2013 7:49:43 AM |

CJ had a really bad one. We needed to burn some clock towards the end of the game, and he shoots up a long, contested, basically fade-away jump shot with about 25 seconds still left on the shot clock. Terrible.

i don't mind them shooting 15 foot jump shots, but it bothered me that leslie came out right after halftime and threw one up early in the shot clock. he seems to get better at shooting once he's in rhythm, not cold coming out of the half. 1/10/2013 2:17:00 PM |

My problem with Leslie is that he tends to fade away on all his jump shots when he doesn't really need too. He's tall and long enough to shoot right over most defenders. It's like he's learning from Howell who actually has to fade away to create separation due to his size limitations. 1/10/2013 2:20:49 PM |
