I didn’t think WL released them, just made them searchable, right?
In any case I simply disagree with you that the way to help get more progressive policies in place is to hand over control to the right in the short term. There is going to be too much collateral damage and it will take an entire generation to recover.
I don’t think our end goals are all that different but the thoughts on the means of achieving them most efficiently are vastly. 2/14/2018 4:34:50 PM |

^^ That’s fair. I don’t know if they took the right approach either.
But I’m pretty confident that if Clinton were elected, we would have 16 years of neoliberal policy (at minimum) instead of 4 or 8.

Reminder that the DNC/Clinton Campaign:
1. Bolstered extremist candidates in the GOP primary 2. Actively fought the Democratic candidate who consistently polled higher against Trump 3. Diverted millions of dollars intended for state chapters to the Clinton campaign, allowing conservative wins across the board
Who is your enemy again?

Why? Even top Democrats will admit these days that the DNC was an arm of the Clinton campaign.

Consolidating power within the party is what the candidates are doing when they run for the nomination. To the extent you think that's a problem, is it the DNC's fault for handing control over or is it Clinton's fault for taking it?
"Donald Trump and his party of awful, awful humans" are far worse than your Clinton nightmares. It was obvious during the campaign. 2/14/2018 8:55:36 PM |

Somethings going on. Assange had his internet cut by Ecuador again. Believe it happened in 2016 too near the election when it was apparent he was basically using Ecuador as a vehicle to get at an American presidential nominee.
^ he doesn’t believe that. I don’t get why some people don’t understand that. To him Trump and anti-establishment fervor is more important. I think people need to understand that before engaging in arguments and trying to understand points of view.

His source is RT (why wouldn’t it be?) but big if true. He’s calling it bad for journalism but I’m torn since Assange clearly had partisan goals and knowingly got hacked materials from a state actor. 7/20/2018 2:41:39 PM |

I obviously think very little of what Assange has become but I do hope the US has real charges and hard proof of him working hand in hand with hackers or governments. Otherwise you are essentially outlawing publishers.
There was a reason why Obama’s DoJ didn’t go after him. It’s an easy path down towards prosecuting ordinary journalists.
** in other words, if it’s only for publishing classified material then look out NYT/WaPo/any Trump adversary

Looks like they’re connecting him to the actual “hacking” that Manning is responsible for? Claiming Assange helped Manning log in under someone else’s credentials (Assange acquires someone else’s password?) and then solicited Manning for more and more information?
Or something along those lines, I’ve yet to read the actual indictment.
If the State has good evidence that this is how it went down, then it seems like they can dismiss Assange’s press freedoms he may argue for? 4/11/2019 9:46:09 AM |

I would not be surprised by either at this point.
After reading some more expert opinions, I’m seeing quite a few folks suggest the “encouragement” to hack charge is a pretty big stretch. The password thing is probably legit, but you are basing an entire case on a single exchange between Manning and Assange (and the password attempt was ultimately unsuccessful?). So I dunno. People have been sent to jail in this country for far less with far less evidence, but unless the State brings some more evidence, this is hardly a slam dunk case. 4/11/2019 1:23:34 PM |

It goes without saying I’m not an Assange fan.. but this is insanely precarious. This seems to go from assisting with hacking to simply publishing classified material. The former I’m ok with him being indicted for; the latter is a very, very dangerous indictment.

Glenn is still an American citizen, correct? I sure hope he gets some support from our government here but I won’t be holding my breath.
I have been outspoken on some of his words but it’s completely unacceptable to go after the publisher of hacked information. If he did indeed take part in the actual hacking I would amend this but I don’t see any accusation of that unless I’m missing something. 1/21/2020 11:10:07 AM |

Julian Assange can be extradited to the US, court rules
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-59608641
Quote : | "The US won its appeal against a January UK court ruling that he could not be extradited due to concerns over his mental health.
Senior judges found the lower judge had based her decision in January on the risk of Mr Assange being held in highly restrictive prison conditions if extradited.
However, the US authorities later gave assurances that he would not face those strictest measures unless he committed an act in the future that merited them..." |
Quote : | "The US had offered four assurances, including that Mr Assange would not be subject to solitary confinement pre or post-trial or detained at the ADX Florence Supermax jail - a maximum security prison in Colorado - if extradited.
Lawyers for the US said he would be allowed to transfer to Australia to serve any prison sentence he may be given closer to home.
And they argued Mr Assange's mental illness 'does not even come close' to being severe enough to prevent him from being extradited.
But lawyers representing Mr Assange argued the assurances over his future treatment were 'meaningless' and 'vague'.
If convicted in the US, Mr Assange, 50, faces a possible penalty of up to 175 years in jail, his lawyers have said. However the US government said the sentence was more likely to be between four and six years." |
