11 win season
^ If the guys ahead of him are good enough to keep him off the field, then him transferring wouldn't even be that big of a deal.

I mean, if Frasier went to FSU and Cook plays this year, he'd be redshirting there too.
He can redshirt and be a major contributor next year. It would actually be easier to imagine the coach redshirting Frasier over Gallespy because he could say "Well, Gallespy was here in the Spring and knows the playbook and pass protections". I imagine Frasier would rather save his eligibility than get 4-5 carries a game or only play in garbage time. Whoever our 3rd RB is(even if it is Nichols) is still only going to see 4-5 carries a game and maybe some work on special teams.
He joined a class with 2 other highly rated RBs coming in behind 2 established(and very talented) players at this position...he had to know redshirting was a good possibility.
Even if we average running the ball 50 times a game, you're looking at Thornton with 15+ carries, Dayes with 10+ carries, Brissett with 10+ carries, Samuels with 2-5 carries, and likely some combination of Hines/Trowell with 2-3 carries. I mean Creecy was getting carries last year because he was a veteran leader on the team and a captain, I think coaches would much rather just feed Thornton and Dayes more than give those carries to someone else. Only way a 3rd RB gets more than 4-5 carries a game is if we have an injury. 8/11/2015 8:26:14 AM |

Quote : | "I just hope he doesn't transfer if he is redshirted. He was recruited by a lot of other big name schools. If he sits the sideline and sees other guys making plays, getting attention, etc... he may start to question his playing time in future years and bounce." |
i really don't think that'll be a problem. it's much less of a problem in football than basketball, it seems. a lot of these recruits are well aware that they may have to redshirt. so unless Doeren was guaranteeing him playing time and stuff, i think that's kind of a stretch to already be talking about him transferring.
gallaspy did come in in the spring - and Doeren (i think it was Doeren) commented that Gallaspy was ahead of the other freshmen RBs in terms of development/readiness because of that.
besides - shad is a senior, right? so even if frasier does redshirt, he'll see tons of PT in 2016.
^i don't know if Dayes is getting it 10+ times each game. that only happened 5 times last year. and he had fewer than 7 carries in 5 games last year. he's a good RB, but he's more of a threat to catch passes. less of a traditional RB style than Shad or Frasier or guys like that. i don't necessarily disagree with you - these guys are true freshmen and we should probably temper our expectations for how they'll perform this year.
but this is a good problem to have - a lot of talent at a skill position.

^I expect Dayes to consume Creecy's carries and get more carries. I agree though, he'll do more damage in the air, but I expect him to be on the field more this year. 8/11/2015 1:28:44 PM |

^ I think running back by committee is the standard at both levels of footballs nowadays anyway. Plus people realize they're better off from a wear and tear standpoint not getting every single carry. 8/11/2015 1:55:31 PM |

i agree with both ^ and ^^. somebody's gotta take creecy's carries this year. and i think shad and dayes will both see increased usage this season. there were times last season when shad was criminally underused - the BC game comes immediately to mind. but i also think a 3rd RB will see plenty of time too - I assume that'd be a freshman. Samuels will obviously get touches, but not always as a traditional RB. 8/11/2015 2:02:09 PM |

is 2016 too far ahead or do you already have big plans for your Super Bowl?
btw, it's pussiest nonconference schedule of the power 5 conferences. i'm sure some of your AAC cohorts have much worse schedules, for example

Yea sooo many douches have been trollin on this board since that one season when ECU was like waaaayyyyy over ranked, they were like #13 or some dumb shit lol.
The week before we played their undefeated piratess they were all waving their virtual dicks around here talking mad shit about how their pirates arrrrrr gonna beat up on the fack, and a bunch of other nonsense shit rednecks say, you know how they do.
Anyway, Rdubs and that one TE who got fat the next season put their pirraaatessss in their place.
It was hilarious.

The North Carolina native and four-star prospect will take some of the offensive load off of quarterback Jacoby Brissett’s shoulders and serve as a supremely versatile weapon out of the backfield from day one. In other words, he’ll be to all-purpose yards what Joey Chestnut is to hot dogs, Les Miles is to grass, and Jim Delany is to bad ideas. That’s high praise!" |

Not every player selected is a starter at their respective decision. Shawn Boone was selected instead of Josh Jones. M.J. Salahuddin was selected instead of Jerod Fernandez. Benson Browne & Cole Cook were selected instead of David Grinnage. Gavin Locklear was selected instead of Jonathan Alston and Bra’Lon Cherry." |

implies that Alston, Cherry, and Ramos will "start" at WR, but I guess they won't necessarily get the majority of snaps/targets. assumed Trowell might have beat out one of those three, even if he's a RS freshman and they are all juniors. 8/17/2015 5:33:52 PM |

UNC's skill positions look really good on paper -- an experienced QB and some stud RBs -- but OL is a huge question mark for them. Also, unless Chizik is a miracle worker, their defense is going to suck again.
I know nothing about Duke, but I'm pretty sure they lost a ton of players. 8/19/2015 2:58:44 PM |
