No, the selection committee uses RPI mainly to pick tournament teams.

Pomeroy indicates our team is playing a little better relative to other teams so that's a good sign, but we are still going to need to win some games.

i won't mind getting blown out @ duke/unc as long as we beat these bottom feeder conference teams like we're supposed to.

I wish we could pull off a win at Duke, but unless Wood gets hot with 3's and we have a very low turnover rate with BROWN, we are doomed.

What's the word on Brown's status for Duke? Was there ever any further clarification on Leslie coming off the bench due to undisclosed behavior issue?

I'm still a fan of this team and love that we have so much talent. Although this season seems to be even more frustrating than usual, it's because it's most exciting basketball i've seen us play in decades and we actually have a chance to go far, and it's tough to keep seeing us lose it in the last minutes. But jeez, we're 2-0 against Duke and UNC so far. Some sports "fans" are ridiculous.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's entirely true. Unless face has multiple aliases, which I'm sure he at least has a few.

But some people are just happier when they have something to complain about. Some sports "fans" use sports as that outlet to project their unhappiness from other parts of their life. There's studies about it.

Of course I want us to win but we are going to be enormous under dogs in this one fellas.

We do seem to give duke matchup problems though, so I might bet on us if the spread is like 15+

Clearly our #21 RPI is an indicator that we are on the bubble.

Are those expected things what was predicted before the season or what it predicts at the end of the season based on things currently.

I would agree with that.

11-7 was unthinkable a few weeks ago by everyone here but 2-3 posters though. There were even outlandish 15-3 predictions

currently

although 11-7 has been a pretty common acc projection on kenpom and elsewhere since the middle of the ooc schedule.

if we go 10-8 (which will start looking more likely if we drop duke and clemson - clemson is another toss up type game but we're due to win one of those after miami, uva and maryland) our RPI will likely be mid 30s which is still safe with a win over duke

^ on the post game Gott said, in regards to CJ, there was "something" but it's all behind them now.

so Cj is gtg for Duke. no clue about Zo, but Tyler said he thought Zo was going to play/start the Miami game.

^^Tyler only thought that because he came out and tried to warm up. It was a trial thing to see how his ankle was, and Gott said before the game started it was clear that he wasn't going to be able to play.

Yeah 11-7 or 10-8 sounds about right with Clemson being that swing game. I think I would feel safe on our chances of getting in either way but the seeding is not gonna be what we expected coming into this season. We may end up in one of those 8-9 games

Does the tourny selection group take injuries into account when looking at individual losses? Losing by 4 combined points over 2 games with Zo out of the game and Leslie not at 100% has to show that we're better than the record says we are/

Pretty sure they do

I remember years back Kenyon Martin broke his foot during a conference tourney and they gave Cincinatti a lower seed even though they were one of the best in the country

"3. North Carolina State: Richard Howell isn't built like a bruiser, but the forward's core strength allows him to clear out a significant chunk of interior space. He has superior footwork, and he can outjump would-be defensive rebounders, all of which make him a box-out nightmare for opposing bigs (not to mention a vital part of the Wolfpack's 1987-never-happened offense). Only four other high-major programs attempt fewer threes than the Wolfpack. When he isn't converting those rebounds—Howell's 1.28 points per put-back is fourth among D1 bigs—his team benefits from the additional possessions."

"Seeing Lewis and Purvis finally step up to Warren's level means we might actually be an annual contenders in this league under Gott. Real success isnt living up to expectations this year, its being a contender for the next 3-5 years while he's here.

I am actually feeling better about our ACCT/NCAAT chances after the Miami loss. We can still grab the 2 seed in the ACCT. If CJL can actually motivate himself to play smarter, whole game basketball at some point -we're golden
"

A)I think we've seen Lewis and Purvis surpass Warren's level. He's got talent, obviously, but Warren looked like a scoring machine against crappy teams. Against ACC talent he's been much more of a role player. Plus I question his attitude/work ethic at times.

B)We *can* grab the 2 seed iln the tournament. Can. If we go undefeated the rest of the way and Duke loses at least 2 more games. I think the combination of those is about as likely as snow in July.

Realistically, I'd be happy with 12-6 at this point. The team looks ready to turn a corner, but then again that has applied for several games now. I think the only guaranteed loss is Clemson, because we're screwed either way in that game--if we beat Duke (which is possible if Brown is back and Curry isn't on fire) then it will be a hangover loss. If we lose to Duke, the team will be on a 3-game losing streak in a hostile environment. Neither one good. After that, the only games that worry me are UNC and @FSU, but they're both winnable.

We're not going to win out but it's variable after that. Really damn happy for 13-5, happy with 12-6, okay with 11-7, displeased with 10-8. If we end up 9-9 or worse then the team has quit on the season.

I disagree. Warren is averaging 13 ppg over the last 5 and that includes the 3 against UVa. Warren has looked pretty good all year, but he's missing some of the bunnies he wasn't missing earlier (especially in the UVa game, he missed at least 4 shots that he would make 80% of the time). I'm pretty sure he's still in the lead for ACC ROY, but he has hit a bit of a wall the past 2 games. He also seems to play decent defense, when he wants to. I thought he did well against Curry last time we played Duke.

That's ludicrous. Lewis has had one good game. Purvis has been mostly a non factor, decent for a freshman but not all that productive. Warren has been outstanding with the exception of a few games. He delivered us the UNC win for god's sake.

i agree with all that, except Purvis being almost being a non-factor. He hasn't had a tremendous impact, but he's averaging 30 minutes and 10 points a game. That's a factor.

Well, put it this way. He's been a significant downgrade from CJ Williams. Everyone is technically a "factor" one way or the other.

The numbers aren't even really close.

Purvis: 100.5 O-rating, 51.5% TS, 3.7% O-Reb, 6.5% D-Reb, 9.7% Ast, 17.5% TO, 0.3% blk, 1.2% stl

CJ Williams: 116.4 O-rating, 57.5% TS, 6.4% O-Reb, 7.4% D-Reb, 11.0 Ast, 14.5% TO, 1.3% blk, 2.0% stl

Again, his numbers are solid for a freshman, but TJ Warren has been off the charts. Also, CJ Williams was very good for us last year. Definitely underrated.

7.6 O-Reb, 7.3% D-reb

Pretty crazy, not sure if i've ever seen an O-reb higher than a D-Reb. He definitely likes to release in transition and he attacks the offensive glass for putbacks, but those numbers are definitely surprising.
