If you guys would just hack your wiis and get the homebrew channel, you can play all the old games you want.

for free.

definitely. It's more difficult with the new OS but apparently still possible. I've been trying to do my cousin's, which is new and has the new software, and I have the backup loader but keep getting errors. Anyway, it's worth the effort for sure.

I forgot that was this week. I pre-ordered 2 of the little adaptor things off Amazon a couple of weeks ago. Supposedly they will ship tomorrow. Cool, I guess.

picked up a motion plus today. The instructions are like you must use the condom jacket thing, because it is needed for proper operation. Yeah, sure... I hate the straps and I hate the condom thing.

Now I just need to find a game to try it with, I'm thinking about renting one of the tennis games.

no specs or really any details have been released on nintendo's next console - they said in an interview though that it will be HD-ready

Anyone successfully hacked their Wii with the most recent software? I can't remember the version, not at home w/my Wii right now, but mine has the most recent as of the end of March or so. Just wondering, would like to have it play DVD's & what not, that would be sweet.

So I got to play Tiger for all of about 20 minutes last night.

I just jumped right into the advanced swing and started playing. I didn't have too much of a problem hitting some nice straight drives, albeit not as long as they could have been. I found it to be a bit easier than I was expecting (kind of in a bad way, but also maybe for the better...the first Tiger was so hard I gave up pretty easily), but I'm sure it's harder when you try to hit the ball a longer distance. Also putting is WAY better than before, and the "1-1" controls work incredibly for pitching, and that's what was really missing before IMO.

Also played about 4 holes of disc golf...seems fun and works well, I'm sure I will play more of it.

Westicles, I installed the homebrew channel on my cousin's wii, which will allow you to play backups and dvds, along with other homebrew (including emulators). The backup channel is still complaining about some sort of error with CIOS, but the other stuff works. He has the newest software, 4.0.something.

I don't know if playing DVDs is a good idea, though. My understanding is that the drive can't handle the wear it would get from that much spinning. That could be Nintendo propaganda, though.

just got an eagle on hole 16 for the daily tournament. it was a pitch from like 119 yds or somethin and the backspin i put on it backed it up into the hole. wish i could save the replay. i've had 2 horrible holes that screwed me over badly, but that shot was nice.

^^i havent played it, but i'm keepin tabs of reviews and user comments on it. so far its very mixed. i'm more interested in the included Fate of Atlantis game than the new Staff of Kings game.

wow then i eagled hole 18 from 124 yds. unfortunately my -2 isnt quite good enough to crack the top 100.

I am hereby changing my opinion on how easy it is. Last night I played Wolf Creek and after going Par, Birdie, Eagle on the first 3 holes I'm fairly sure I went par or over for every hole after that.

Anyone play grand slam tennis with the motion plus thing? Some people said it screws up and makes them miss the shots. I've been playing it w/o the motion plus and it seems quite enjoyable. Where you want the ball to go depends on the timing of when you hit it.

^^ it has some calibration issues and you have to wait a couple seconds on serves to let it sync. if you're controlling your player, you also have a tendency to fall back on habit and use the thumbstick to direct your shot. occasionally the motionplus will cause me to miss a shot, but most of the time its easily correctable like letting it resync between points or resisting the temptation to use the thumbstick to angle.

Ive got the motion control, and Grand Slam tennis, but I cant tell if it is making any difference. I watched a video on youtube, where the guy, while serving, could move his arms up and down, and the character would do the same. It doesnt do that when I do it. The racket seems to mimic my actions, but not as well as some of the gameplay videos ive seen.

Im starting to wonder if my motion control is broken or something.

Is there any setup for the motion plus you have to do after you hook it in?

Wii, future Nintendo Wii titles will be shipping with the ability to, well, play themselves. In an interview with USA Today, the man who birthed Mario confirmed the existence of "demo play" for the next Mario game and "future games, too" -- essentially an option to allow the game to play itself when the player encounters an area too difficult for them to handle."

lol @ gamespot's review of grand slam tennis, you can tell it was written by some computer nerd that never played a real game of tennis in his life, wahhh it's actually difficult like tennis wahhh

it was probably the same guy that attacks wii for not catering to hardcore gamers, I'm really starting to give ign the nod over these clowns

http://wii.ign.com/articles/996/996245p1.html

there is it, basically say it's ordinary besides the motion plus which works great, they didn't say anything about the serve though which was the weakness of grand slam

I still don't know which one to get, I prefer the more realistic graphics of virtua but grand slam got a better score

grand slam tennis is pretty awesome in my book, the controls aren't quite 1 to 1 and be glitchy but when it's working (which is like 85% of the time), it's unlike any video game you've ever played

can someone give me a quick rundown on the way the hacked wiis work with "backup" games? i COULD google it, but a cursory search gives me varying information, so i thought y'all might be able to condense it for me

i have one of the original wiis that i hacked with the twilight princess hack about 8 months ago...honestly, i haven't done a thing with it it since then...i was browsing some torrent sites (not downloading, of course) and noticed a bunch of different things in regards to downloaded games

1.) can a tp-hacked wii play any backup game? or are one of the mod chips required?
2.) what's all this SSBB (super smash bros brawl, i assume) update required to play some games about?
3.) brickblocker?
4.) can PAL (europe/asia) titles be played on NTSC if they're converted? how does the conversion work? what's all this about a duplicate homebrew channel? is regionfrii all that's needed?
5.) instead of using DVDs, can you run games directly off an SDHC card or external hard drive? what size HDD can a tp-hacked wii support?

maybe this is more tech talk material, but since it was mentioned in this thread, i figured i'd ask the questions here

1) yes for the most part, you won't need a chip unless you want to play other regions
2) for some games the disc will try to install a system update. you can override this so your wii system version won't change or you can remove the update code from the game ISO (brickblock)
3) if you put in a game from a region other than your Wii's region and the update runs successfully, your system will brick. brickblock prevents that from happening.
4) I believe for a softmodded wii (tp hack) you will only be able to play your regions games. I have a chip and can play games from any region.
5) absolutely. using the wbfs file system the drive can be any size. I currently have a 1tb running backups via usb.

hope that helps, no guarantee this info is correct, just kind of threw it together based on my experiences with my own wii.

the first thing you should install should be preloader + bootmii or starfall. they will allow you to back up your system files so you can restore them in the event of a brick.

okay, it appears that i can run backup games now (i started okami over lunch)...is there any good reason to downgrade to the 3.2u firmware if i'm running the 3.3u, preloader, and bootmii (as boot2)? the only advantage i'm aware of is the ability to run starfall...and startpatch is the replacement for menu 4.0/4.1

i'm still confused...is there an advantage to upgrading to 4.1 when it's working now? is startpatch really worth it? features for startpatch are:
- Region free (including Wii channels and SD Card menu channels)
- Skipping the disk update check
- Removal of the health check
- Booting recovery menu by pressing Y on a Nintendo Gamecube controller in port 1
- Removal of the diagnostic disc check
- Force Disc Region
- Remove NoCopy Protection
- Free movement of the Disc Channel
- Can autoboot a game by booting the Recovery menu, pressing Y on a Nintendo Gamecube controller in port 1 and removing the diagnostic disc check

also, i've been running wiibrickblocker on the couple of ISOs i have, but i don't suppose it's really necessary as long as wiibrickblocker reports it as NTSC-U, right? is running wiibrickblocker on a game that doesn't "need" it a bad idea?
