$400 for a used D80 doesn't exactly seem like a good deal, I'd probably look at getting a refurb unit for less then that. I think the D40x is about $300 for a refurb body. I'm not exactly sure what the main diff is between the D40x and the D80, but they seem very similar.

^ The D80 can drive non-AFS lenses.

If you are limited to AF-S lenses (motor in the lens) you have to choose the more expensive option for several typical lenses: fast 50mm, wide zoom, long tele, etc. The difference for one lens might be a significant fraction of the cost of a used D80 body.

D80 is a big step up from a D40X. bigger more robust body, top LCD, two command dials, built in AF motor, 11 AF points, and more. Its an old model though, the D90 supersedes it.

D40/D40X/D60 are all pretty similar, same bodies, just more MPs in the later ones.

D70/D80/D90 are pretty similar

agreed. I'd look into paying just a lil more and getting a used D200. Talk about a more robust body.

After shooting hockey with Jbaz's 5D yesterday, I need one. Although not the best body for shooting sports, I was blow away by the image quality. I'll post some of the shots when/if I get them from Jbaz.

In the meantime, here's a few shots from work last week.

Lots of upgrades around the office.

Prescribed burn at Prairie Ridge off Reedy Creek Rd. My buddy said my camera looks like a Spartan laser.

Canon 40D+Grip. My 11-16mm 2.8 lens stays on the body pretty much full time.

Thank you. Unfortunately at work is often the only time for me to shoot, so I try my best to take advantage of it. I take my camera with me pretty much every day. I'm trying to consistently take pictures (at least a few a week) of things on the job.

Here's my flickr set with some of what I've got so far.

I went home to the beach with my girlfriend on thursday and friday. Didn't shoot much, but I was able to grab a couple frames.

Kitten is about 12 years old. I got her for my 10th birthday. She's not seen me in a while. Her kidneys are failing.

The circle in Atlantic Beach isn't what is used to be.

I was able to convince her to let me play with my new 5-1 reflector on the beach. It was windy and cold as shit, so we weren't out there long. Holding your own collapsible reflector in the wind and trying to shoot at the same time is a pain. To get a little more light on her face, I also had my flash mounted on camera, pointed left into the gold side of the reflector.

Me too, we need more people to submit more pictures in this thread. It's gotten boring. I'd like to see some more abstract, artsy pictures (no Kiwi plz). Also, anyone heard of UCE magazine?

My daughter bowling at my sister's birthday party. I really liked this shot for some reason...I think it's the way the pins are lit up at the end of the lane.

drag your shutter for a bit longer to get more of the ambient in the background. Would be nice if she turned around and you got a goofy face in the shot.

Good idea. Bowling alleys are tough to shoot in, the lighting varies so much from place to place. This was the first time I've ever had a "real" camera to use in one. As far as getting her to turn around, that's just pure luck. She's 2 1/2, so getting her to do anything you ask is a feat unto itself.

Unless bad composition is artsy. Then yeah.
