GT's recent sanctions have removed them from the mix with K'Hardree Hooker, and he is set to announce on August 6th.

We really need to land him to shore up what is looking like another disappointing recruiting class...he is good friends with Todd Gurley and several other targets in the 2012 class and could turn the tide in our favor.

lolwut.

i know O'Brien doesn't get those highly rated guys like Derek Morris or Bobby Washington, but I wouldn't consider this class disappointing at all.

I'm really not looking to get into the tired debate about stars and how TOB doesn't need high-level recruits to win. You can believe this class is super awesome all you want, but it's pretty obvious our football recruiting has not been going well for a while now. I don't know if you have a rivals subscription but they did a countdown of the top 50 players in the state, and we were only involved with like 1 or 2 in the top 20.

I don't know that I'd call it disappointing yet. It's not awesome like the '08 class. But this time last year, we barely had 3 commits.

We've already got 10 committed before August. Half of them are at least 3-star prospects, and a few of them haven't even been evaluated yet. Hopefully Stocker gets some stars soon after finishing up at the Under Armour Elite Top 25 QB Camp.

Sounds like we've got Hooker in the bag.

I like how you say "at least 3-star prospects" even though none of them are higher than 3 stars on either scout or rivals. There's certainly still time to pick up some good recruits, I'm just not sold on some of these guys that have 0 offers from other BCS schools. Losing McCollum and Swepson really hurt us on the recruiting trail, and Tenuta and Sands obviously aren't making up the difference.

FWIW, James Summers has 4 stars on ESPN. And I didn't know until I looked, but they gave Stocker 3 stars.

The '0 BCS offers' is a little iffy to me too. On one hand it's like, maybe they come in with a chip on their shoulder wanting to prove everyone wrong and do well. But on the other hand it's like, there is a reason no one else has offered.

So are we going to get NC Defensive Tackle K'Hadree Hooker? PP thinks we have a good chance. Scout shows a lot of offers, but we're the only school that he has a "high interest" in.

i also "lolwut" at your claim of "another dispaointing recruiting class", but that also shouldn't be interpreted as "super awesome". Or even close to "super awesome".

While I'd love to have 4 and 5 star players with offers from everyone in the region and even the country filling our classes, I'm fine with who the coaches take. They've shown that they have an eye for talent, developing that talent further, and have the knowledge to put guys where they will succeed the most.

Audi Cole is a beast. Coming out of high school, Cole was a 2* 6-5 215 lbs QB with offers from Central Michigan, Bowling Green, and Cincinnati. Now look at the guy. He's been put on the Butkus Award Watch List, and is one of the best linebackers in the ACC and the country.

Earl Wolff's lone offer was from us. He is now one of the best safeties in the ACC, and will be looked upon as one of the leaders of our defense. Last year Wolff led the team in tackles with 95, including 4.5 TFLs and two sacks. He had one interception, two pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles.

I trust the coaches will do all they can to land players of the likes of Terrell Manning, who could have gone anywhere in the country. On the other hand I know that they'll also not hesitate to offer a kid who doesn't have every coach in the country after him, but outshines everyone at our camp.

I'm curious as to what you people think would be a disappointing recruiting class if the current one isn't. It's looking like it'll be 10th in the ACC unless things change dramatically.

you could probably say our class at this time last year was pretty disapointing. (since we had like 1 or 2 commits)

i think if they were offered this early, they're guys that TOB wants, and that's good enough for me. And ff course I hope we get a few 4 and/or 5 stars sprinkled in.

I don't think that's helping your point, as our class last year was ranked last in the ACC by both scout and rivals.

I realize recruiting (especially football recruiting) is an inexact science and stars don't necessarily correlate to wins, but by the only metric we really have our recruiting classes this year and last are pretty lackluster.

what? i said you could say last year's class at this point was disapointing b/c we only had a couple commits and that this year's isn't disapointing becuase TOB is obviously getting the guys he wants. I don't see your point at all.

but on with recruiting!......

So having a bunch of earlier commitments automatically means our recruiting class isn't disappointing? Not buying that at all. If you feel like it doesn't matter at all if we have a class full of 2 stars or a class full of 5 stars because "TOB knows what he's doing" that's fine, but I don't think that's an opinion that's worth regurgitating ad nauseam. TOB isn't a good enough coach that his recruiting is beyond reproach.

^We're no where near the level of a program to have a class "full of 5-stars". We have to be somewhat realistic. Every 5-star we rope in(Crisp, Barnes) is a great job by our staff. Ideally each class would have a few 4-star recruits and mainly 3-star guys that our staff feel fit our style of play and program. They know what type of players we need. Until we're contending for ACC Championships and consistently ranked Top 25, you can forget about classes full of 4 and/or 5 star recruits.

Our classes are always going to look more like VT's classes than FSU's classes.

Football recruiting classes generally reflect the team's success level from 2 season ago. I would call the 2012 class "disappointing" at this point if it looked anything like it did this time last year (3 commits, one of which was a long snapper), because we had a winning 2010 season and finished ranked nationally.

Quote :
"So having a bunch of earlier commitments automatically means our recruiting class isn't disappointing?"

No, but you have to look at the class that we have. Between all the recruiting service websites, 7 out of our 10 commits are 3-star recruits. The following positions have been addressed: QB, WR, TE, OL, LB, DB, DT.

The class is neither disappointing nor fantastic right now.

You probably should quit saying "or better." Because almost all of them are 3 star recruits. You're trying to make it sound like there are 4 and 5-star recruits scattered about.

here's a write-up on Hegedus from an April Nike training camp:

Quote :
"WR: Charlie Hegedus, 6-1.5, 191, Lassiter (Marietta, Ga.)

The 6-1 wide receiver was a sleeper in Friday's camp. Just ask the DBs. Hegedus showed up with a point to prove and came out to compete. Every time the ball was in the air it was his. He ran good routes and he understands how to get separation. The junior had 675 yards and 9 TDs receiving to earn all-county honors and is still looking for offer No. 1."
