^yeah they do from our meteorologist...
Quote : | "Severe pop-up storms are expected this afternoon and evening across the Raleigh-Durham area. The storms are currently beginning to form and will continue to develop while moving eastward until 8-9pm tonight. Hail, strong winds, and consistent lighting are the largest severe threat with these storms. Be sure to keep an eye on local media and listen for a thundercall for up to the minute potential storm warnings. " |

I could not believe at the bitching on WRAL earlier. I had just left eating dinner in downtown Hillsborough, and got home to find a tornado warning. I turned on WRAL to see what was going, and they were constantly apologizing for having interrupted Big Brother. People were blowing up the FB page crying that they could not catch the nomination at the end. Fucking babies. 9/2/2012 10:58:13 PM |

I personally don't give a fuck about big brother but it's annoying as hell when the station cuts into some prime time programming for like 10 minutes to blather on about a thunderstorm or some shit. I don't know why they can't pop in for 30 secs, give the quick story and then point the viewer to another source for more info if they are interested (radio, Internet, news channel, etc), scroll a ticker on the bottom and call it good.

^Usually I can agree with that to some extent, but WRAL just shifted BB over to 5.2, which you can pick up with a damn pair of rabbit ears. So it was still available, but it might take some fat fuck an extra minute or two to tune to it. 9/3/2012 8:37:48 AM |

^ Two major things wrong with what you said.
Rabbit ears don't work anymore. Just a heads up on that.

Bullshit they don't. They might not be optimal, but they work.9/3/2012 9:52:58 AM |

Rabbit ears *mostly* no longer work. Most stations are no longer broadcast in analogue, but there are still some low power stations that haven't made the conversion to digital. I think we've got another couple of years before the conversion is complete. They keep delaying the total switchover for some reason.
But yeah, you really can't get much of anything on rabbit ears anymore. Maybe some bum fuck local weird channels. 9/3/2012 9:59:59 AM |

Antennas don't care if they're receiving an analog or digital signal... the receiver does. If you live a little nearer to the transmitter site, you'll get every channel they have to offer. Since Raleigh's channels are all mostly located in Garner, you'll see everything. 9/3/2012 10:03:05 AM |

^^ tornado watch
watches indicated that conditions are favorable, while warnings indicate that severe weather is imminent.

^^ a warning can be issued on ground truth (someone actually saw the thing) or based on radar indications of rotation. either way, it's a more serious designation than a watch. 9/18/2012 10:26:44 AM |
