it's also pretty obvious from the video that he's much faster than a 4.9 40

Not really recruiting news, but Art Norman won ACC Rookie of the week. Not bad for an unheralded 2*. Guess the coaches saw something they liked and weren't concerned about his stars or if his recruitment would bring our class ranking down.

I remember reading while he was still at BC that Obrien and staff were considered the best talent evaluators in the country.

no no, this also cannot be true, because according to every internet message board guru TOB and staff are the absolute worst recruiters ever and should be fired for their turrible recruiting efforts

i'm pretty sure over the next couple of years we'll see a lot of players who only had 2 or 3 *s become solid contributors. It's already happening.

nah, TOB couldn't recruit at BC either. but back then he blamed it on BC's academic standards and Boston's favoritism toward pro sports.

he might be a great talent evaluator, but he can't recruit the talent, so what's the point?

Yeah, you're right Amerson, Graham, Underwood, Palmer, Smith, Byrd, Manning, Greene, Glennon, Norman all these guys have no talent.

i'm not saying his recruiting classes were devoid of any talent.

but his overall recruiting rank has been historically weak, at BC and state. that's all i'm saying.

amerson and then graham as a returner are the only guys listed that are top 5 in their position in the acc. graham def isnt a top 5 wr though.

manning has been a huge disappointment, these last few games he's finally starting to play up to potential

the rest of the guys are mediocre or TBD b/c of injury/age

wolff is (or was) 2nd on the team in tackles... behind manning.

manning has won acc linbebacker of the week at least a time or two.

bishop just won acc db of the week and also in the top10 in the country in interceptions (i think)

graham is setting return records

that's a little better than "mediocre".

weak, according to the rivals or scout.com rankings.

When people say O'Brien is a good talent evaluator, they're saying he's good at finding the guys that are good football players, regardless of how many stars they have. For example, Art Norman.

safety's are going to get tackles when the d-line is letting the rb get 7 yds every play and the D calls for the DB's to give 6 yard cushions to every receiver.

i mentioned that manning has been playing well the past few weeks

bishop....ugh, he is great at catching wildly misthrown balls when nobody else is in the area but not much else

i said graham was a great returner.

well, he did just win db of the week. i guess that there isn't a decent db in the acc.

also, this is the list of all-acc nominees

Quote :
"CB David Amerson
S Brandan Bishop
TE George Bryan
LB Audie Cole
DT Markus Kuhn
LB Terrell Manning
DE Brian Slay
C Camden Wentz
S Earl Wolff"

were any of those guys heralded recruits, besides manning and maybe amerson?

[Edited on November 22, 2011 at 2:54 PM. Reason : actually, that may just be PP's Henderson's nominees]

HUGE disappointment?? Not even close.

The guy tore his ACL before he ever set foot on campus. He was good as a freshman and was really good last year. IIRC, he sacked TJ Yates for a safety and was an all-around animal that day. He got injured early on this year, but he's came back and played at an All-ACC level .... and he's only a junior. He was the best player on either team Saturday.

^^Also, in Bishop's case, go back and watch his INT from the Clemson game. The guy made one hell of a play undercutting Dwayne Allen -- who's arguably the best receiving TE in the country. It was anything but a badly thrown ball.

Last year he was 9-4, this year he's 6-5 so far, (hopefully 8-5, and i don't need to mention all the 2-deep guys who missed multiple games due to injuries early in the season, do I?)

Here? It's barely .500.

*FWIW I think the players listed on this page are all above average players. Not an indictment on them at all.

And I know that aside from a few odd years here and there, no one has ever recruited at a high level at State. So I'm not expecting huge recruiting hauls, but to undervalue its importance is not smart. (If you want to compete at the highest level)

you said overall, not only at State

he won an awful lot of games at BC with talent that the recruiting websites said was no good

he's started winning some games here, but I won't be upset or anything if he loses to UMD and gets fired. Win against UMD and it'll be 3 bowls in 5 years with a hell of a lot of talent coming back next year.

yeah lets be honest most of us if we had heard 8-5 and beat Carolina after losing RW before the season would take that in a heartbeat. its just some of the ways we got here thats been painful.

i commented that if you're trying to judge tob's ability to evaluate talent, you probably shouldn't look at his W/Ls since arriving here, just the last two or three years.

i also commented that the new recruit Quincy McKinney's offer list looks nice, despite being only a 3*. it appears he committed to SC in August 2010, with offers from GT, FSU, UNC, Tenn, Nebraska, Rutgers....

[Edited on November 22, 2011 at 5:41 PM. Reason : ^that's why i said 6-5. Hear what from who?]

Todd Gurley's officially visiting this weekend. I'm sure its just to get some free stuff, but it would really make IC disappoint if he were to somehow commit to us. Would love to have him though.
