This is amazing. These two matches speak volumes about our ability as a team right now. These kids have been brilliant. This match has been a very complete performance. You could argue this was a second string German side. To that I say we are without Howard, Gonzalez, Besler, Dempsey, Altidore, and Guzi. All of whom played huge roles in the World Cup. This is a marker and I absolutely fucking love it.

Lets give a big shout out to Guzman as well. He made a couple big saves...Germany easily could have had another goal or two.

Klinsmann I could kiss you. We should be routing the competition at the Gold Cup. I am very excited about what I see from this side. Still young, still very raw, but god do they have a great manager leading them and endeavor. They have character and heart, that is the minimum. Love it. Absolutely love it!

Looked bad first 30 min, lots of defensive lapses. I am hoping Gonzalez, Besler, and Brooks solves that at the Gold Cup. Excellent second half. The introduction of Beckerman was key as it allowed Bradley to play more attacking and dictate tempo. Zardes and Agudelo didn't impress. Danny Williams and Johansen were meh. Wood, Morris, and Yedlin were all very good. Johnson didn't have the best of games but he wasn't bad either. Diskerud, Bradley, and Brooks were solid.

Zardes had a solid 2nd half after I shitted on his horrible shot at the end of the 1st half.

Back line was definitely our weak link. We're lucky our goalies are always bosses or we'd get blown off the field in most games.

yep. Zardes is not a two way player at this level and moving him up top was a good call in the 2nd half.

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake), William Yarbrough (Club León)

Defenders: Ventura Alvarado (Club América), DaMarcus Beasley (Houston Dynamo), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Timmy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Greg Garza (Club Tijuana), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Michael Orozco (Pubela), Tim Ream (Bolton Wanderers), Brek Shea (Orlando City), DeAndre Yedlin (Tottenham Hotspur)

Midfielders: Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Joe Corona (Club Tijuana), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Mix Diskerud (New York City FC), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Perry Kitchen (D.C. United), Alfredo Morales (Ingolstadt), Lee Nguyen (New England Revolution), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)

Forwards: Juan Agudelo (New England Revolution), Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders), Alan Gordon (LA Galaxy), Aron Jóhannsson (AZ), Jordan Morris (Stanford University), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

From This the 23 is probably:

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)

Defenders: Ventura Alvarado (Club América), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Timmy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Brek Shea (Orlando City), DeAndre Yedlin (Tottenham Hotspur)

Disappointed to see Bobby Wood not make it on the 35. I would also take Jordan Morris over Juan Agudelo. Wouldn't mind giving someone like Tim Ream a chance over Alvarado or Timmy Chandler either. I think the midfield is pretty solid. We should be winning the Gold Cup with Dempsey, Gonzales, Besler, and Zusi back in the team.

-------------- Guzan --------------
Yedlin - Brooks - Gonzales - Shea
------------ Beckerman -----------
------- Bradley - Diskerud --------
-Johnson -----------------Dempsey-
------------- Altidore---------------

I think that would work well against most teams. Weak link here is that left side with Shea, Diskrud, and Dempsey on one side. However in terms of stretching the play that offers us a lot of width and attacking outlet against the smaller teams. Could be vulnerable to the counter against pace.

Klinsmann asked Beasley to come out of international retirement so I think he will be on the 23 at least.

I've stopped trying to predict Klinsmann callups/roster choices because it's so random. But I wouldn't be shocked if Morris made it since he's JK's current project and Wondo/Gordon would be an absolute waste of a spot.

^ heard he may get banned for longer now because of that. I have heard mixed comments about the match. Some say the referee was terrible but the sounders players overreacted as well....

Yep. Apparently ripping up the ref's notebook is classified as assaulting the ref and carries a 3 month ban.

Of course he/they overreacted. That kind of behavior is never acceptable. Complete bitch move, even the pompous way he clapped in the face of the assistant ref as he walked off. I'm fine with a Gold Cup ban to be honest. Nice work, Captain.

I am amazed Klinsmann has decided to take Wondo over Morris. No Besler is also surprising. I still haven't forgiven Wondo for missing that late chance against Belgium, we would have won and gone to a freaking quarterfinal at the WC. God damn it Wondo.

so am I wrong or are we really only missing our keeper from the world cup roster? I mean of any significant to someone who watches soccer occasionally.

Yeah 17 of the 23 are back from last summer.

Missing from WC roster: Howard ("retired"), Matt Besler (weird to miss but he might be added later), Beasley (same as Besler), Geoff Cameron (think he's trying to figure out club situation Stoke asked him to skip it apparently), J-J-J-J Jones (injured), and Julian Green (figuring out club situation)

None of them were replaced with anybody significant other than Alvarado, who looks like JK's latest CB project, and Zardes. The Gold Cup roster strategy vs. World Cup roster is different because you can replace 6 of the 23 after the group stages and I think we always do that to get fresh guys in. I wouldn't be shocked to see any of Morris, Agudelo, Besler, Beasley, or Shea show up later.

^ He got loaned out and it just didn't work out. He never played, refused to train with the youth teams and now he's looking for another loan with signficant JK input I believe.

He was one of the guys cut for the final roster but he did make the initial call-up. I think our midfield is just too stacked right now. Well except for Brad fucking Davis.
