It's a 1.5lb brick with less capability than a computer. It's basically a 1.5lb iPhone. You can't run more than one application at a time (Except music) and apparently you can't even see the screen in the sun btw. It's a POS.

I like my husband's view on the iPad......it's a coffee table computer. it's something for the gadget lover that would use/keep his laptop/computer for the big stuff, but for the simple stuff, a quick browse or look up, or read at the coffee table they'd have an iPad.

I can accept that mentality as long as you have money for that kind of thing. I'd rather buy a pile of knives or one nice knife.

It just seems like it fills a niche that doesn't need to be filled at the moment.


One thing I will say is that I can't knock someone for buying one if they enjoy it. Kind of like how I own an excessive number of knives and plan to buy many more. Stuff doesn't always need to fill its own specific role for it to be enjoyed.

totally agree. this kind of thing isn't for us (i mean, maybe one day...but for damn sure not NOW), but for some this kind of gadget is a pretty coffee table book...

which is fine, but the problem is that it costs $500+ and you can get a pretty nice laptop that actually plays flash for that much...plus you are locked into buying a bunch of apps/movies/music from Apple.

now that i'm truly over getting laid off and the depression/funk that followed it...i'm all fb add happy. i was so ashamed when it happened I went a little nutty (internally...I really didn't talk about it to anyone, hardly even my husband) and de-friended a ton of people (some by accident, jaime ).

the point in the "coffee table computer" description (IMO) is that the iPad is not marketed to the average joe...

even though apple would like for it to be...
