Hey FeebleMinded, I remember you bitching about table talk during an all in a while back. Played ub today and they have it so you can't chat during an all in. Kind of nice, but gets annoying when playing heads up.

you set a trap then aborted when he did exactly what you wanted him to do. raise the flop, you cant give free cards like that to the likely drawing hand(tiger46).. prolly up to around $45

definately gotta bet the turn. ua1176 prolly has AK or AQ and is done with the hand after taking his stab on the flop, tiger is prolly still drawing.. bet them out

you just gotta deal with the variance of a TA style in a shorthanded game, playing this passively was bad for two reasons:

1) you were very lucky to have your hand hold up against two opponents who each got two free cards.
2) you may have missed out on some value if either one was willing to call a raise on the flop. value bet when your kings are probably good(rag flop), not when you're unimproved at the river. I like the trapping call preflop but never gave yourself a chance to bust either of them.

damn, what a tear the last hours been.

sit down with 50 at a NL table with three stacks of 100 (max). two guys who probably play higher limits that were throwing chips in left and right (bet 20 into a $2 pot, etc...). catch one of em on a bluff, then the other on a A high flush to his K high. stacked both of them. then the third stack, just completely got creamed by my nut straights, trips, and then a flush to finish him off. 50 to 350 in an hour.

I pretty much agree with everything noid said. With that much action preflop I may have 3 bet to try to get heads up or hope that the reraiser will push all in preflop with some garbage like AK.

I like calling there sometimes.. three betting it will tip your hand to any decent player

If you raise a rag flop with a disguised KK you will sometimes get action you wouldnt normally get from JJ/QQ or top pair

Ok, ub is pissing me off b/c I can't seem to get a stt going for more than $20. What's the best place to play a 10 person stt? I love ub's structure but it just takes too long for the $100 stt to fill up.

Is that BetOnUSA??? I got something even better awhile back from them if so. $50 free in their sportsbook. Couldn't cash out the 50 till you wagered it 10 times, or something insane, but for soem reason, the profit from bets could be taken to their poker part and bet at will, ended up running that up to 450 and cashing out because their fucking tables are so damn annoying to play at with that HUGE graphic on the table.

I've had a lot of success with third barrel bluffs like this now that I've moved up to 1/2nl. I had him pegged on a pocket pair between 33-1010 and I felt like the ace was a good card for me in that respect. I feel that I've gotten more adept at pouncing on weakness in spots like these, but wow, I seem to have misjudged my opponent in this particular hand. ghey

I dunno if this has ever been addressed on here. How do you react to a minimum raise? I am discussing mainly tournament play, but cash game theory is welcome here too. This happens all the time and frankly, it is quite annoying.

Personally, if I am last to act and the blinds are less than 5% of my total stack size, I am usually compelled to call. This is of course assuming I am in late position and I am already in the pot. So I basically guess I can restrict the question even further to being, if you are in the big blind and are facing the minimum raise and are either last to act and very close, what do you do? This seems to happen all the time at some tables. Of course, I NEVER raise the minimum amount, and I feel a straight call is usually a weak play, but my school of thinking is this:

One, the guy is a douche and likes to min raise a lot. In this case, I call with just about any two cards and either bet the flop, or let him bet the flop and then reraise him. I would say at least 80% of the time the guy will fold after my raise/reraise, and about 10% more will fold after a decent bet on the turn. After that I pretty much call the hand a wash and let it go.

Two, the guy is playing something really good.... AA, KK, AKish.... In this case I am getting great implied odds because if he has a big pocket pair, he is not folding after the flop. So if I hit something, I have his stack, otherwise it's an easy fold.

I see a lot of the latter. Some guy raises min utg with a monster. He doesn't want to scare anyone out but at the same time he wants to bump up the pot a little. Min raise is always a shitty play unless you are begging for a reraise, but I too see it often. If I'm already in the pot I'll pretty much always call assuming I'm not big blind with 2-7 off or something of that nature. I see the same people do this and follow it up by a min bet on the flop and usually the turn, then they get pissed off when I call down and hit trips because I am getting 9-1 pot odds with my bottom pair. I also like to reraise a lot on the turn in that case as you stated in scenario #1.

From my experience, the min raise early to mid in a tourney usually means a big hand. Its almost always some idiot who thinks he is being sly and getting more money into the pot when he has AA or KK, and has no way to lose no matter what comes. Its pretty easy to spot these people because if they are out of position and someone bets before them after the flop, they almost always move all in no matter what their stack is or what is in the pot. However, deeper into tourneys, I have found its just a way for people to see where they stand with an average or above average hand. As far as cash games, I only play limit right now, and this analysis is almost useless in limit.

4th best possible hand? only 3 combinations of straight flush could beat nut boat, no quad quads possible. would've been tough laydown anyhow.

I was playing with 4 buddies a couple of months ago and I had a pair of 7s. I kept raising the pot so I could get out and go home. 3 of the others folded and then the last one folded. I won with a pair of 7s while the last guy who folded had 3 Aces and 2 kings.

Oh, like that's any better. It's like calling with a J high flush on a non paired board.

^you would have laid down the nut full house? concede that your opponent has a straight flush?

No, but I would have saved myself half my stack by just calling the reraise.

and you would be missing out on value in the long run, a worse full house will call you more often than a straight flush or quads

of course someone's going to slowplay a mega monster hand on flop. i see this all the time when the flop trips and i have AA. multi-handed, the majority of the time, someone's hit quads. i bet the flop to see who calls, and play accordingly.

when you hit top set with mid pair on flop, and then river second set, it's hard not to get excited about your hand. i'm not saying it was a good play, nor a bad play, but that's just the mindset i think the losing player was going thru. you just get caught up in the moment until reality bites you in the ass. happens all the time with quads vs straight flush.

for the record, i suck at poker, so i don't mean to act like the stuart ungar of poker. just thought i could contribute.

small sample size.

but plo by nature is one of the highest variance games in poker. oddly enough, even moreso than stud.

by not taking advantage of the hands that will pay you off here, you are losing value.

playing this way increases your sigma dramatically, but, creates higher win rates for those that do.

you can nut peddle and make 3bb/100, or push marginal edges and make 15bb/100.

sure you could play higher with a sustained rate of 4bb/100 due to a lower br requirement on a smaler variance game style, but you could actually play lower and still have a higher $/hr with the higher bb/100 ratio, obv.

the higher you play, the less likely that nut peddling is going to garner a win rate anyways.

Is the same standard of profit, "bb/100", used for nl as well?

yes. in limit your true win rate is established by a big bets / 100 hands scenario, where as in NL its actually big blinds..

its just a means of attempting to figure your flat line earnings potential after you have completed a very large sample size of play.

for LHE, its like 50,000 recorded hands. nlhe may be 40k.

plo, probably 60k and plo8 probably 25k. each game has a different standard deviation, hence needing different levels of statistical data in order to feel comfortable with your outcome.

now, many argue that a true win rate cant be established with less than ~120k hands docutmented in pokertracker or some other proprietary db collection piece, but thats just for a higher degree of confidence in your outcome.

i kinda feel like if you play that many hands than your game has progressed as you have played and your true rate is the rate youd get at the last 40k or so... but thats neither here nor there..

(and obv, bb/100 can be transcribed into $/hr, but the math is pretty simple)

Yeah, I prefer the $/hr. Not too impressive if you are making $15bb/hour if you are playing nickel dime games...

realisticaly, if you are only about playing well,

the bb/100 should be the only thing you care about.

$/hr rates only get you into a short term results oriented mindset.

I would rather make money than play well.

Not sure what you meant by your second comment.

theoretical question then,

would you rather stick your stack in getting 1.3:1 on a 75% lock

or

getting 5:1 on a 25% lock?

what youre saying is taht youd rather do the 1.3:1 since you are more concerned about $/hr than maximizing value. varaince is lower, much higher chance of actually winning.

which one is actually playing well?

but earlier you said

So if that's the case then what's wrong with tracking $/hr vs bb?
