Wait, so if I had actually checked the channel instead of just looking at the guide, I would have been able to watch it in HD?

This is what a friend of mine said to me this morning:

Game 2 was a fluke win for Carolina. Brouder never usually makes stupid mistakes and he is always meticulous with his stick. I think the second goal slipped through the 5-hole and that should have been avoided if he was setup properly. Nothing more than a lucky bounce but those sadly win games. Madden did win that final faceoff but it went all the way into the corner. If a D-man picks that up and dumps it into the Carolina zone it's over. Furthermore the Devils didn't hit anybody or try to trap the puck in the final seconds. And frankly I don't buy the Cam Ward hype. He seriously has done nothing to impress except that one armpit save in game one.. and that was thanks to 'goaltending 101' positioning.

This series by far is not over but the Devils must win game 3. They have not had a home game since game 2 two weeks ago so that might be a boost.

Also Cam Ward's undefeated record coincides with Montreal's collapse and Koivu's injury. If Koivu stayed healthy the Canes might not have made it past round 1. Koivu is to the Habs what Brind'Amour is to the Canes. And you don't keep your five hole close all the time, particualry when you are along the ice. It causes the goalie to become imobile. You place your stick in front to shield it but it can never be closed... unless the goalie plays the crouch/standup stance but that has been disfavored for the butterfly. The winning goal was nice though.. i'll call it the putter shot. I've seen alot of shooters try that this year on breakaways and shootouts. It really works and confuses the goalie. Also the Devils just need to crash the net more and create traffic for Ward. Everyone was awestruck by the inane Giguere phenomeon three years ago. The reason the Ducks won was because nobody ever repitively put bodies in front of Giguere. The same thing is true with Ward. He is not an all-star, he just needs to be distracted and he will flounder.

So far I'll credit the Devils two losses to beating themselves.

What a crock!!!

Tell your friend you have numbers:

Cam Ward: 2 goals past him in this series, 0 losses
Brouder: 9 goals past him in 2 games, 2 losses, an infinite stockpile of excuses

so basically, he's saying the only thing that made brodeur not block those shots was him not doing what he was supposed to do

BRob's friend CRACKED ME UP. I know I *shouldn't* respond, but the amount of bullshit in that paragraph cannot stand.

Quote :
"Brouder never usually makes stupid mistakes and he is always meticulous with his stick. I think the second goal slipped through the 5-hole and that should have been avoided if he was setup properly. Nothing more than a lucky bounce but those sadly win games."

Meticulous stick work, folks: '03 SCF, Brodeur drops his stick on a dump-in and knocks the puck in his own net.

Staal's goal on Saturday "slipped" through. His goal last night was pounded through an opening the size of Carlsbad Caverns. Sometimes five hole goals happen because of lucky bounces, yes, but sometimes YOU GET FUCKING BEAT.

Quote :
"And you don't keep your five hole close all the time, particualry when you are along the ice."

Um, that's exactly when you can keep it closed. It's what those things called "pads" are for. If Cam can't keep his five hole closed, why have both the NJ goals in the series been top corner (including the only clean one)?

Quote :
"It causes the goalie to become imobile. You place your stick in front to shield it but it can never be closed..."

You place the stick in front for insurance...unless you're Allaire style, in which case you use the knees and thigh rises to seal it, and forget about the stick because you're more worried about sealing the blocker side elbow.

Quote :
"unless the goalie plays the crouch/standup stance but that has been disfavored for the butterfly."

Brodeur is a stand-up hybrid. With modern pads, the pro-fly seals the five hole much better than a standup bringing the pads together; knee stacks make it hard to seal the shins of the pad while standing. Granted, Brodeur doesn't use knee stacks, but a vague stylistic generalization can't be used to characterize coverage amongst every goalie.

BRob, tell your friend he can respond when he learns more about goaltending than he heard from Darren Pang on a 30-second TV spot in 1999.

my god, I was there mon night, I only payed $40 for my ticket, I would have gladly payed $200, that was the apex of sports right there. I was heartbroken when that devils goal happened, but thank god I wasnt one of the cuntrags who left after that, I stayed, and holy shit!!!! I have never heard anything as loud as the cheering in there, I about fell off the mezanine jumping up and down and high fiving everyone within a 10 foot radius. I literally could not hear anything over the roar, no hand slapping, no screaming of people beside me, hell I couldnt even hear myself. I seriously had a hockey orgasm. Nothing can beat this game, unbelieveable does not even begin to describe how amazing being there was, I think this might be one of the top 5 moments of my entire life, right up there beside losing my virginity and shit.

Apparently Devils fans are planning on bringing beach balls into the arena tonight, each with a message written on it directed to a player. They plan to throw them into the visitors bench before the game. Don't have much confidence in them being able to go through with their plan, but if they do, we may be starting the game on a powerplay.

I have been to all the home games but Game 1 of this series, and will go to all the rest that I am in town for. In my oppinion, no price can be put on playoff hockey .

Anytime I start to think about tickets being expensive, I just remember that in Detroit I would have gladly paid 100+ for a round 1 ticket. I just reserved Finals tickets for 80$/per.
