i think the other people in your league can't draft if you got the #1 RB, arguably the #1 WR and Brady who will be a top 3 QB, not to mention the #1 DEF.

he's in a 2 team league, I am the other owner, we could draft from past years though. My starters:

QB: Peyton Manning '04
RB: LT '06
RB: OJ '75
WR: Jerry Rice '87
WR: Jerry Rice '93
TE: Kellen Winslow '80
FB: Larry Centers '96 (IDK why he didn't draft one)
K: I'll just play the matchups, probably pick up whoever is playing the '81 colts that week
DEF: Bears '85

I think I will win the league

alright i need some help in this decision. this could be the trade to end all trades right here...

someone offered me:

philip rivers, l. maroney, and antonio gates

for

peyton manning, jones-drew, and todd heap

now i've been tryin to get rid of jones-drew for a while now (with greg jones back, and fred taylor healthy, i just don't really like his potential this year) and i think maroney is going to be a beast. i'd be losing peyton, but picking up gates and rivers isn't a bad combo at all. i need some help

any suggestions!?

i didn't think it was that bad.
gates > heap
maroney > jones drew

i'm in a league where QB touchdown passes only count 4, not 6. so rivers might not put up peyton manning numbers, but he'll only be about 5-10 points behind him every week. and gates and maroney should make up for that. and like i said greg jones should get a lot of goal line touches in jacksonville. and fred taylor looked pretty damn good in the preseason too. so i'm not all that big on jones-drew this year

if it's 4 pts/passing td, then it becomes an ok trade

maroney > jones-drew
gates > heap
manning >> rivers (instead of >>> in a 6 pt/td league)

you gain two >'s and lose two

this is the least scientific post possible

I would say go with Smith.

He is without a doubt a risk, but the reward is that he has great receiving weapons in Davis, Jackson, and Gore, as well as deep threats (which they led the league in 30+ yd passes last year) in Battle and Lelie.

I really think he has the potential to be solid this year.

I am not sold on McNair as much just because of how much a defensive/running team they are. Compound that with the fact that Clayton, their #1 WR, is not 100%, and I think he is more of a gamble this year than in years past.

As for Harrington, it will take alot more than 2 quarters of preseason football for him to ever warrant a roster spot in a FF league with less than 16 people. While I think he will have a few solid games this season, the overwhelming majority will be sub-par.

Go with Smith as your backup.

I got a question for The Guru: Who of my WRs should I start for week 1?

I have:
Reggie Wayne (Obvious Starter)
Jericho Cotchery
DJ Hackett
Mark Clayton (Sprained both ankles earlier in the preseason)
Darrell Jackson (Didn't practice on the 3rd due to Hamstring)
Terry Glenn (Out for Week 1)

I just can't decide... I was leaning towards Cotchery and Jackson but I keep second guessing myself.

More info: 3 WRs starting, 10 yds = 1 pt, 1 TD = 6 pts.

So what do you think?

Willis Mcgahee

Marshawn Lynch
Deshaun Foster

^^AHAHHAHAHHA...Hilarious!

^^^ The first two, no question. The other three are in RBBC's. It's too early in the season to be benching either Willie or McGahee for one of the rookie's or a Panther.

^^^^ Good Sit-Start question.

Obviously, you go with Wayne....and I would also go with D-Jax and Hackett. Both have alot of upside and will be in good matchups this week in what could be high scoring games. Glenn is out (as you said), and Clayton is a wait and see. Cotch is always a good option, but with the return of Asante Samuels on defense and the NE Defense looking so good, I would hold off on him for this week. Keep a close eye on what the Seahawks decide on Hackett/Burleson. Hackett's lackluster preseason has kinda had him in the doghouse from a FF perspective, but his 1st child was born in week 2 of the preseason, so the productivity concerns dont really bother me that much. He is so atheletic and strong, he is a great WR to own this year....but, if for some reason Holmgreen decides to be clever and start Burleson instead of D.J. (and you should know this by Friday), start Cotch instead.

WR Question:

Start 3:

Starters:
Andre Johnson - definite starter
Reggie Brown - GB has solid CB's, but McNabb had a solid outing against them last season
Calvin Johnson - Oakland has a solid D but Roy Williams should draw some attention his way

Bench:
Braylon Edwards - going against a solid D and has Frye throwing, not looking good
Dennis Northcutt - has looked good in the preseason, Tenn defense isn't good, but the QB situation is a hastle.

I could potentially see starting Northcutt over CJ because Northcutt is a #1 compared to CJ who is a #2/3.

A couple of things about Johnson. First, there are other proven targets, I doubt a rookie will put up big numbers until at least several games into the season. A good QB will go to his clutch receivers who he can count on, and Detroit has no shortage of those. Second, the Oakland defense, if I remember from last year, is pretty damn good against the pass. I think they were REALLY good. Third, I think the game is in Oakland (can't remember, again....check on that) and if so, that's a really hostile place for a rookie to play, especially when their home field is a dome.

also Calvin isnt even starting week 1...he'll play, don't get me wrong, but look for Williams and Furrey to get more action...thats per Calvin Johnson's Yahoo! player card info, btw

"Sep 3 Detroit Lions rookie WR Calvin Johnson is not entering the season in the starting lineup, as the coaching staff wants him to earn a starting role rather than just handing it over to him."

Also many people don't realize that Oakland had the 3rd ranked defense last year despite their awful record, so its not an automatic start for your fringe guys when they play the Raiders.

yeah the idea last year was to play a defense that was playing the raiders since their offense was really bad...their defense was solid

Right but as lot of less savvy players just look at records and think "Oh Oakland sucks, my guys will dominate vs them".

Also I've been picking up Selvin Young in my leagues. Denver officially moved Mike Bell to fullback so Young is Travis Henry's main backup. And we know Henry has a history of injuries, along with his boycott on prophylactics.

^lol, I just dropped bell and picked up young this morning.

My big money league draft is today. different scoring system than I have ever played

Quote :
"QB- TD / 0 to 39 yds = 6 pts
40+ yds = +6pts for 12pts total
-1pt for fumble or interception
+1pt bonus for every 25 yds rushing
+5pts for 300+ yds passing

RB & WR- TD / 0 to 39 yds = 6 pts
40+ yds = +6 for 12pts total
-1pt for fumble or interception
+1pt bonus for every 25 yds rec or rushing

FG- 0 to 35yds = 3 pts
36 to 45= 5 pts
46 to 50= 7 pts
51 + = 10pts
TD Extra Point= 1 pt

Two Pt Conv- 4 pts to scorer

Def/ Specialty Score- = 12 pts/ for TD: by fumble return, interception return, safety, blocked FG return, blocked punt return, recovered fumble in end zone, KO fumble & return.

Defense Score- QB sack = 1 pt
Interception = 1pt
Fumble Recovery = 1pt

Shutout- = +20 pts

Tie Breaker: longest FG "

scoring is by far the big emphasis here, no points for receptions or carries and QBs have inflated importance.....any suggested strategies?

So a QB throws for 280 with no picks and 4 short TD's = 24 points

Another QB throws for 300 with 3 picks and 2 long TD passes = 26 points

Big plays are more exciting, but shouldn't be any more valuable. If so, then marginally, not double.

Is Selvin Young a better pickup than Droughns? I have not been impressed with Jacobs this preseason and I'm not sure how he will last an entire season with a full workload. However the Giants offensive line is not as good as Denvers and I could easily see both team splitting carries until someone shines.

It's too early to say for sure and both are just waiver gambles but should I drop Droughns for Young?

No matter who gets more work in NY, Jacobs will still get the goal line carries. Remember, he stole all of Tiki's TD's the past 2 years. In Denver, the guy who carries between the 20's is the guy who usually gets the touchdowns as well. Although Shananan does like to throw those 1-3 yard TD passes to his tightends a lot which is basically just a big "Fuck You" to Fantasy players.

Need some advice on who to start in week 1 of my standard scoring league:

We play 2 RB and a RB/WR.

Willis McGahee
Ahman Green
Clinton Portis
Jamal Lewis

Specifically, what do you think of Portis this year? I mean before last year, he would have been considered a top 5 RB, right? Now it seems like everyone thinks he's chopped liver...

Because he's been hurt a lot recently and Betts had over 1100 yards last year. McGahee and Green are obvious. Lewis plays Pittsburgh and Portis plays Miami, so 2 tough matchups there. I start Portis...the skins have a better O-line.

agreed.

McGahee and Green are your starters for week 1, at least until Lewis or Portis show some promise and/or have a good matchup to exploit.

The word is though that Portis is basically 100% and Gibbs wants to keep him under the radar. I am not that low on Portis, and I think he could have a great year...but's at this point, it's foolish to start him without seeing exactly how all of this will pan out.

BTW, I promise to go more indepth on some tougher questions. I'm at work, so I have to pick my questions to devote lots of time to!

Oh crap, I see you can start 3 RB's....

Start Portis. Pittsburgh will air it out and score early, forcing the Browns to throw and abandon Lewis, who not only is a power runner, but not a great threat out of the backfield in passing situations either.

The Redskins and Miami will both have trouble on offense, which will lead to more chances for the RB's to be involved, even late into the game. This one will be a defensive battle, but I like Portis over Lewis this week.

I don't think Portis will ever be healthy again, and he might split 50/50 with Betts (with Betts getting td carries), that's why people are down on him.

McGahee and Green are your RB's

As for flex, if it were me I'd go with Lewis, but since you drafted Portis you probably expect him to do better, and Miami will probably give up more rushing yards than Pittsburgh.

Dominic is NA because he is suspended for the first 4 games of he regular season due to violating the NFL's substance abuse policy (DUI).

He's not really worth the headache. I like Morency, but the fact that he has barely, if at all, participated in the Packers preseason workouts really bothers me.

Neither are that great of a pick, but if I had to, I would go with Vernand simply because he is one of two RB's on a team, with the other being a rookie.

Go with Morency.

Okay here is my last draft. I think i did okay. I am weak on QB and lack depth at RB, and we start 3 WRs and I found out afterwards I drafted 3 Wrs on the same bye...stupid. But I did it for a reason because I have a friend in the league that stole Rivers from me and is a Buckeyes fan, and I have several Bucks on my team. So I predict a trade after week 1 after Rivers plays the Bears.

1. (11) Laurence Maroney
2. (14) Brian Westbrook
3. (35) Roy Williams
4. (38) Andre Johnson
5. (59) Santonio Holmes
6. (62) Chicago
7. (83) Anthony Gonzalez
8. (86) Jason Witten
9. (107) Alex Smith
10. (110) Julius Jones
11. (131) Anthony Thomas
12. (134) Shayne Graham
13. (155) Joey Harrington
14. (158) DeShaun Foster
15. (179) Michael Jenkins

I have a questions though, do I start Holmes vs Cle or Gonzalez vs NO?

Here is my likely starting lineup

QB Alex Smith
WR Roy Williams
WR Andre Johnson
WR Santonio Holmes
RB Laurence Maroney
RB Brian Westbrook
TE Jason Witten
K Shayne Graham
DEF Chicago

I've already documented my terrible auto-draft earlier in this thread, but now that I have an abundance of TE's, which to start this week.

Gates vs. da Bears(tough D)
Tony G vs. Houston(anemic O)
Vernon Davis vs. Arizona(a middle-of-the-road D)

Typically I'm going to just go with Gates, but the Bears LB core is solid.
