I liked this a LOT more than 300. 300 was good, but it was almost so visually crazy that it over took everything else
Quote : | " * Bartholomew, James, son of Alphaeus and Andrew form a group of three, all are surprised. * Judas Iscariot, Peter and John form another group of three. Judas is wearing green and blue and is in shadow, looking rather withdrawn and taken aback by the sudden revelation of his plan. He is clutching a small bag, perhaps signifying the silver given to him as payment to betray Jesus, or perhaps a reference to his role within the 12 disciples as treasurer. He is the only person to have his elbow on the table; traditionally a sign of bad manners[citation needed]. Peter looks angry and is holding a knife pointed away from Christ, perhaps foreshadowing his violent reaction in Gethsemane during Jesus' arrest. The youngest apostle, John, appears to swoon. * (Jesus) * Thomas, James the Greater and Philip are the next group of three. Thomas is clearly upset; James the Greater looks stunned, with his arms in the air. Meanwhile, Philip appears to be requesting some explanation. * Matthew, Jude Thaddeus and Simon the Zealot are the final group of three. Both Jude Thaddeus and Matthew are turned toward Simon, perhaps to find out if he has any answer to their initial questions. " |

Some quick matches that seem to have significance
Comedian = Judas He betrayed the trust of the other adventurers multiple times, as Judas betrayed Jesus
Silk Specter I = Jesus Maybe because her departure signaled the eventual end of the minutemen like Jesus' death led to the dissolution of the apostles?
Nite Owl I = James Both level headed, one of the first adventurers/first apostle
Hooded Justice = Simon Both the de facto leader of group 3/23/2009 11:00:59 AM |

I saw it with Mister Dweedle
I didn't care for it
I spent most of the movie trying to figure out who the owl guy was in the real life
Then I figured out it was Elaine's Doctor Boyfriend who kept failing the medical school test
But Dweedle's faggot ass IMDB'd him when we got home and proved me wrong
Fuck that guy 3/23/2009 11:04:44 AM |

I think its just there for a laugh. I really don't see any significance to it other than the Comedian in Judas' place.
Also please note that this shot is well after the rape (I think there was 5 years in between the rape and the time she actually slept with the Comedian and Laurie was conceived). The last supper took place BEFORE the betrayal of Jesus.
Maybe Comedian isn't Judas, but he's actually John or Peter. Or represents the combination of all 3, since he is alone where 3 should be and shows attributes of every good and bad personality type out there.

she's pregnant with comedians baby and you make comedian judas?
you're either reading too much into this or not reading enough
comedian should be the whole "one of the apostles was Jesus' mistress" thing from the da vinci code 3/23/2009 3:50:02 PM |

I didn't make the comedian Judas, he's sitting in the exact same position as judas in the painting. You can start making biblical references from pretty much ever story ever told if you try hard enough, but it's not too hard to make some connections between Judas and the Comedian.
Both express extreme remorse for their past actions. Judas spills his guts in a field, Comedian spills his guts to his arch-nemesis. Both are indirectly responsible for saving mankind. Man is saved from sin by the death of Jesus, which results for Judas' betrayal. Manhattan is convinced to save mankind by the miracle of Laurie's existence, caused by her mom sleeping with a man (Comedian) who tried to rape her.

^ I just finished it. Both are really great... I particularly liked the Black Freighter. In the special features there is a half-hour long segment about the way the graphic novel was set up and how decisions were made about what to include in the end-of-chapter sections. There's also the first chapter of the animated movie. 3/24/2009 11:58:04 PM |

my response
Quote : | "‘Schindler’s List’ Supports Genocide
Several students responded to Joshua Hamilton’s [March 19 forum letter saying] Watchmen supports rape. While they were well intentioned, I’m afraid explaining the subtleties of Watchmen’s plot isn’t going to help Hamilton much.
It boggles my mind that anyone, anyone old enough to see this R rated movie by themselves, can think a film condones or supports every action in its plot. Passion of the Christ supports torturing messiahs. Schindler’s List supports mass genocide and makes it look cool for kids, too! The Dark Knight must support psychotic acts of terrorism because one of its main characters has a name which, as Hamilton would surely say, “implies that the things he does are meant to be funny or evoke laughter.” Let me remind you that The Dark Knight is rated PG-13, not R.
I am most disturbed by what’s not in his letter. If Watchmen really supports every act committed by its “super hero” characters, then by exclusion Hamilton must be just fine with the following: shooting pregnant women and their unborn children, pouring boiling hot oil onto people’s faces, setting police officers on fire and intentionally killing millions of people at once. Killing millions must be fine; let’s not bother to stop and discuss that. Instead, a depiction of one (attempted) rape (in which the attempted rapist immediately has his face beat in for it) is the true crime here.
If the people Hamilton is dissuading from seeing Watchmen can’t distinguish fiction from a Public Service Announcement, then I applaud him. In fact, I don’t want these 100 ticking time bombs to consume any fiction at all." |

i had no knowledge of the movie or comic, and i enjoyed it. I especially liked rorschach, he definately made the movie.
I can see why lots of people wouldn't enjoy it. The previews kinda gave it a false sense of action, and there wasn't really that much action in the movie. It seems like more of a movie that you would see if you read the comic and want to see it "come to life".
Oh yeah, and it never hurts to include a Malin Akerman nude scene in a movie 3/28/2009 8:01:11 PM |

^that's funny you say the film was short on action. the novel is actually reeeeaaally short on action. I thought it was really drawn out in the film. 3/28/2009 8:04:15 PM |

Quote : | "Man shoots himself during "Watchmen" movie
Eugene (KMTR) – A man shot himself to death in a Eugene movie theater just after midnight Monday morning.
Police say about 10 patrons were in an auditorium at Regal Cinemas watching the movie “Watchmen.” About midway through the film some of the moviegoers told the manager they heard a “popping” noise like a gunshot. A 24-year-old man was found in the rear of the auditorium with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police say the man shot himself and was dead when they arrived.
The patron closest to the man was sitting two rows away. " |

although i bought the black freighter when it came out, i just got around to watching it this weekend. i had heard that under the hood was actually better than black freighter, but i disagree. i thought under the hood was pretty boring and actually fell asleep about halfway through. maybe i missed the good parts. 4/13/2009 8:28:08 AM |
