"i would think that the two of you would be the last people to assert that inclusion into a certain group and therefore with whom you associate necessarily paints a picture of your personal beliefs and positions. By this logic all TKEs would be rapists.

One would imagine the two of you could relate to someone being involved in a community where you have to prove yourself and some times go the extra mile to fit in. He was a mixed kid growing up in a racially tense time and was trying to be part of the civil rights movement. of course their were radicals there. there are radicals for all positions. when he says he chose his friends carefully he is basically saying i didn't want to hang out with rich white kids because if i did people may not take my interests and efforts on issues seriously. so he aligned himself with those whose loyalty wouldn't be questioned. Thats all. One can go to many places and find marxist literature handed out, it doesn't mean the place is marxist. that would be equally as unfair as me suggesting the guy wearing the "change" shirt and spouting of anti-muslim propaganda is a representative of everyone voting for mccain because he was doing it at a mccain rally.

seriously, guys, even pretending to be this dense isn't becoming"

I'm pretty curious, where did this mention of Teke's being rapists come from?

Hey guess who else was a Teke? Jim Goodnight owner of SAS. I'm surprised nobody ever found out he's a rapist. Or how about Ronald Reagan.

I'll admit that TKEshultz is getting his shit handed to him in here, but its dismaying to see you guys resort to ad hominem attacks over and over.

When I joined TKE a lot of the girls I knew said they heard we had a bad rep b/c some guy ruffied a girl at a party and rapped her. As far as I know it never happened, at least not within 10 yrs of me joining. I met some random girl at the fair last week who looked to be at least 5 yrs younger than me and she was like yeah i didn't hang out with the TKEs they had a bad rep (and she said the same thing about the ruffy). Man who the fuck is spreading this bullshit and baseless rumor???"

That is where. I was using it as an example because its something that I don't think anyone could actually agree is true, although there is an apparent association. it was something to which i would imagine you would be capable of relating, especially since you said it.

As for the ad hominem, i guess we'll have follow his example on quality constructive and coherent thread contribution

"obama being a socialist isn't really even a bad thing. Rich people just make up ghost stories about how it will ruin the economy when it will actually boost it because a lot of their extra money is going back into the economy instead of sitting somewhere.

1. So that's a concession that Obama is a socialist?
2. Where exactly do you think this "somewhere" is where rich peoples' money sits? Under the mattress? Buried in Mason jars in the backyard?

Quote :
"Yeah, real socialist guys..

Obama Tax Proposal
--------------------------------
$0-$18,891 = $567 tax cut
$18,982-$37,595 = $892 tax cut
$37,596-$66,354 = $1,118 tax cut
$66,355-$111,645 = $1,264 tax cut
$111,646-$160,972 = $2,135 tax cut
$160,973-$226,918 = $2,796 tax cut
$226,919-$603,402 = $121 tax increase
$603,403-$2.87 million = $93,709 tax increase
$2.87 million-plus = $542,882 tax increase"

Uhh...dude...that's part of why people are accusing him of being a socialist.

Quote :
"^and how about the Bush tax cuts that Obama is going to let expire?"

that's what that is.

Quote :
"Then you need to work on Ron Paul.

I hear that marxist bastard's Fair Tax plan wants to redistribute the wealth by letting poor people freeloaders off the hook for taxes

"

Isn't Ron Paul not even for the Fair Tax? either way, nobody is arguing against letting the poor off the hook for taxes.

Quote :
"
The point is, everyone approves of socialism to a some degree, and this whole issue is stupid.
"

Yes, of course. Only a few crazy ideologues are against anything that could be construed as a socialistic policy to even the slightest degree. Let's be real here, though: Obama represents a giant step towards socialist policy. He is a very moderate socialist, but a socialist nonetheless.

Of course, while I don't agree with his tax policy, that's not the thing that REALLY sets me against him (if he wasn't giving tax credits to people who don't even pay taxes, I'd be even less against it. I think all but the poorest people should pay a little bit of tax, and nobody should get negative tax). It's the entitlement programs and expansion of scope of government that really set me off, though.

Quote :
"People in the top 20 percent of incomes, averaging $182,700 a year, saw their share of federal taxes decline from 65.3 percent of total payments in 2001 to 63.5 percent this year, according to the study by congressional budget analysts.

In contrast, middle-class taxpayers — with incomes ranging from $51,500 to $75,600 — bear a greater tax burden. Those making an average of $75,600 had the biggest jump in their share of taxes, from 18.5 percent of all payments in 2001 to 19.5 percent this year. "

"

This is ridiculously disengenuous. It's not incorrect (well, I haven't crunched the #s, but I take them at their word). I just hope people see it for what it is rather than what it tries to sound like.

Quote :
"so why dont you go to the areas of porch monkeys that have never worked and are not working and talk to them"

Quote :
"that more than your counterparts can say
"

You are a fucking idiot.

Quote :
"tke, i hate to break it to you, but you're not paying taxes.

"

Yeah, if you're working at Skoolkidz, you aren't paying taxes. Not unless you're the owner.

Quote :
"who failed out of school?

ad hominem attacks give you no cred.
"

That's not what he said...and that isn't an ad hominem fallacy to begin with (that would be if he said, "Your argument about X is wrong because you got fired from Schoolkids." It's usually a little more dressed up than that, but that's what the ad hominem fallacy boils down to.)

that's ignoring our greater per capita income than a lot of other countries, but in any case, read further to the part where I said that only an idiot would consider Obama a pure socialist.

Quote :
"When the money moves up the curve, people call it successful free market capitalism. When it moves down the curve they call socialism."

The former is a correct statement, generally.

The latter is not what anyone objects to, in and of itself. I am also all for moving money down the curve, as you say, but not by forcibly taking it from haves and giving it to (relative) have-nots.

So where is all the flack from hanging out with chicanos, foreigners, and feminists? It seems Obama was trying to avoid being mistaken for a "sellout" (i haven't read his book so I don't know what he's talking about there).

This is also describing Obama during his college years where he seemed to be experiementing with lots of things:
Quote :
"Obama wrote that the wealth and stark racial divisions of Manhattan in the early 1980s had a profound effect on him.

"I stopped getting high. I ran 3 miles a day and fasted on Sundays. For the first time in years I applied myself to my studies and started keeping a journal of daily reflections and very bad poetry," he wrote.

"You're becoming a bore," his friends told him.

He went to socialist conferences at Cooper Union and African cultural fairs in Brooklyn and started lecturing his relatives until they worried he'd become "one of those freaks you see on the streets around here."

He wrestled with his racial identity, and one of the casualties was his year-long relationship with a wealthy white girlfriend. "I pushed her away," he wrote.

After graduating, he took an analyst job at Business International Corp. to pay off his loans while looking for a grass-roots organizing job. He had an office and a secretary but it bothered him to be the only black executive, he wrote, so he quit.

Soon after, Obama lit out for a $13,000-a-year job as a community organizer in Chicago - where his destiny awaited.
"

So it seems like just another out of context quote that you lifted from your Bible, the Fox News Election BLOG: http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/28/obama-affinity-marxists-dates-college-days/

Obama's story is terrific. He spent a reckless youth in drugs and partying. He came to his own moment-of-truth and decided to spend his life helping the helpless. That's very admirable.

He tries to persuade college graduates into service to others...

Quote :
"You can take your diploma, walk off this stage, and go chasing after the big house and the large salary and the nice suits and all the other things that our money culture says you should buy.
"

He feels that everyone should serve the larger society. That is his ultimate goal...

Quote :
" hope you choose to broaden, and not contract, your ambit of concern. Not because you have an obligation to those who are less fortunate, although you do have that obligation. Not because you have a debt to all of those who helped you get to where you are, although you do have that debt.

It's because you have an obligation to yourself. Because our individual salvation depends on collective salvation. "

Obama's life-choice is fine for him. But I think he has looked around and come to the decision that simply asking people to sacrifice for the collective isn't enough. He doesn't believe people are charitable enough on their own. People must be forced to help others- and he thinks the best position to occupy to carry that out is the awesome power of the presidency.

The ends of "economic justice" justify the means of gov't control over people's lives. He wants to force us to be charitable. We don't want charity beaten out of us by the force of gov't.

Forcing charity out of people creates bitterness and backlashes. The resentment Obama will reap from his redistributive goals will set back his goal of helping the helpless for years to come.

Quote :
"And that if we're willing to shoulder each other's burdens, to take great risks, and to persevere through trial, America will continue on its magnificent journey towards that distant horizon, and a better day."

The question is this: Who gets to decide what burdens we shoulder of our brothers and sisters, You... or the Government?

^ If we presume all of that is actually rational and logical, the quoted excerpts you have there are precisely what the messages of the Bible would teach... do you think Americans would be pushed away from Obama as a result?

Quote :
"People must be forced to help others"

Wow, more FUD. He wants to "force" us to be charitable by... cutting our taxes?

You realize that under Obama, 90% of Americans will have back their OWN money to CHOOSE to be charitable with or not? If you take the same leaps of logic your paranoia has given you a pass to, then I could easily say that once people have back their own money, they start giving more to charities, which in turn decreases utilization of gov. services, which would cause the gov. to decrease spending even MORE, cutting taxes MORE, and society being freer in general.

When I was in college

I wanted to damn near immerse myself in every possible demographic

It's part of learning your surroundings

It's part of learning about people

It's part of learning about your world

It's part of not being motherfucking ignorant

You can't formulate your true being without having at least a base of knowledge of the things that don't interest you. The very best way to find out these things via self-introspection is by becoming at least tangentially involved with all types of people, cultures.

Goddamn I hate this country sometimes.

He wants to force our charity but raising taxes on a subjectively selected income level. Those above his line must give up their income to those below the line.

40% of the 90% of people who he has promised tax-cuts to don't even pay income tax. So they will be basically getting welfare. That bottom 40% isn't known for giving much up in charity. The bulk of charity comes from people with more money. And taking more of their income away for welfare payments to others is going to create a lot of resentment.

And, yes, I'm predicting here. But I think there will be little or no real tax decreases for the middle class. Clinton promised middle-class tax cuts too, and actually gave us the largest tax increase in history...and he wasn't into all of this "economic justice" as is Obama.

per capita, as you would expect, rich people are greedier with their money than the poor. By gross numbers, just because the wealth gap is so huge and growing in America, i'm sure the rich contribute more, but they contribute significantly less as a percentage of their income.
