As much hype and attention as Eli FairyBoy Manning gets on TV; i just do not think he is anything more than an average QB. Nothing about his game yesterday was extraordinary. Without his running back pummeling our defense and his O-Line giving him enough time to practically rub one out in the pocket; he'd be doing jack shit. 12/22/2008 9:16:07 AM |

So much hate and blame in this thread for a game the Panthers were a few feet to the right from winning. Calm down, they are still a very good team and if we meet the Giants in the NFC championship game, we know we can beat them, especially if Kemo is back so they don't rush for 234732942 yards on us. I thought Delhomme played well, especially on some big third down throws, and didn't make any major mistakes. This team is ready to make a run in the playoffs, no worries.
Hahahaha, in case no else noticed, DWill now has 1337 rushing yards on the season

I think I hate hearing Eli being interviewed more than anyone in the NFL.
His voice is even more grating than Delhomme's, and he's basically a human cliché machine. 12/22/2008 10:05:57 AM |

Key (bad) plays to me: Charles Johnson on first series forcing Eli back into the pocket only to have all day to throw the ball, huge letdown from peppers and company (but nice play by Johnson). The holding by Smith, huge play. The studder step by Kasay, but FG kickers are quirky guys by nature.
I thought fox only made one bad decision all night. Being conservative was fine with me, I'm sure they were doubling Smith after that first big catch. However, with 2+ minutes to go in the 1st half with the ball 1st and 10, you can't give up a score, I was screaming at him to run the clock out to the locker room...
We have one of the sickest one two punches in the NFL with Smith and Moose. I'm afraid that in the playoffs DelHomme is going to have to fit a tight ball in a tight spot instead of throwing it up for grabs and he won't be able to do it, and a catastrophic INT will result. So far, it hasn't come back to bite as the panthers are still in great shape for a two seed, but the playoffs is for the star QBs to make plays, DelHomme is going to have to step up. Next week is bigger than last night, hopefully the DL can put it behind them and beat N.O. The Saints have nothing to play for, but that usually means they play harder, but no reggie Bush, anyone else out for them? 12/22/2008 11:04:37 AM |

Putting the game in Jake's hand instead of running the ball was the reason we floundered. 3rd and 3 should've been a run call. 12/22/2008 11:05:47 AM |

I'm not buying the studder step as some sort of problem from Kasay. Kickers often make little adjustments like that depending on how the snap went off and whatnot. It looked like he hit the ball well, probably exactly how he intended to. The wind just caught it at the last moment and hooked it severely. Obviously he should have tried to account for that, but that's easier said than done. It's hard to get a feel for the winds down there, especially with the way they swirl around inside that stadium. 12/22/2008 11:09:49 AM |

Same thing happened to a couple of my approach shots at eagle ridge on Friday. :-) Hard to adjust for wind, and Giants Stadium for those who haven't been there has an unpredictable, swirling wind. I think he kicked like he wanted and the wind just took it more than he thought it would. I would take him on the Packers any day :-) 12/22/2008 11:23:42 AM |

technically if you're on the 1 inch line, it would be a 17 yarder.
in practice you can spot the hold where ever you want to anyway though 12/22/2008 11:41:49 AM |

Did you watch the same game I watched???
We would be 3rd and 11; so what does Fox with his awesome playmaking abilities decide to do??? Lets RUN IT UP THE MIDDLE WE'LL FOOL THEM EVEN THOUGH THIS IS WHAT WE DID FOR 2nd and 13!!
Or when then Giants punter Fecal matter pinned us on the 1 yard line. We ran 3 runs in a row even on 3 n 9 on the 2 yard line. I am sure Jason Baker was excited to be punting from the end zone.
I know DWilliams is having a great season but J Fox is to trigger happy on the run plays. I believe in establishing the run to open up passing; but late in yesterday's game 4th/OT we needed be dropping back to pass more.12/22/2008 12:13:43 PM |

^^^That's the standard play call. You never pass while standing in your own end zone, especially when you're up against a pass-rush like the Giants have.

I think it would have been better to man up with the pass to get that 1st down; worst case we take a safety. Scores 28-22, we punt the ball deep into Giants territory and hold them. Instead of playing grab ass on the 3 yard line than punting the ball to midfield. Where a couple of plays puts them back in the end zone. 12/22/2008 12:26:21 PM |

I agree with the poster above though. Oddly, I think we should've passed when we were backed up against the goal-line, and ran the ball on 3rd and 3. I know, I know, easy to play Monday morning QB. But I think in both situations, that would've been the best call given the situation.

Yes I watched the same game as you. When we had it in OT and it was 3rd and 3, we pass it nowhere close to Moose for an incomplete. At least with Williams there's a chance he'll break it, with Jake you have a 50/50 chance of him pulling a spaz pass like he did.12/22/2008 12:48:56 PM |

^^ most the stuff i've bitched about play wise; i was complaining about as it happened even before the hindsight could come into play
^ well you could argue that after two runs the giants were expecting the run....
fox's sneaky plan that does not fool anyone is, oh we ran the ball this time lets run it again and hope they are not expecting now.

Incredible victory to secure homefield advantage; fans are surely happy...

hopefully they get knocked out in the Divisionals. I'll laugh and Eli will cry. While the sports announcers will bicker about whose to blame and that they always have next year. 12/22/2008 2:38:28 PM |

punching him in the face was my immediate reaction. i think i connected with him with my left but it all happened so fast and we were pulled away from eachother in an instant that i couldnt tell if i made him bleed. surprisingly, security sided with me and made me file a report, even though i just wanted to get gauze and go back to my seat to watch the game. 12/24/2008 7:32:41 AM |
