I don't think we measure up to Boston's lineup from top to bottom, but our depth is definitely underrated. Some of our biggest goals these playoffs have come from Jussi Jokinen, a guy who spent most of this time on the 4th line. Our best offensive player from the 2006 cup run as well as our captain is now on the 4th line. That tells you we definitely have some options at forward.

I also don't think Boston has anyone like Eric Staal, a guy who can be a top 5 forward in this league and win a game by himself on any given night. They have a ton really good players, but no superstars at forward. We still need to get more from Cole and probably Samsonov to win this series though, although was nice to see Cullen score a goal. In any case, the only thing that really matters is how well Cam Ward plays, we can beat anyone with the performance he had last night.

^^^^Seeing the N&O picture reminded me that this past weekend, while at the in-laws in High Point I saw the High Point News and Record and one of the headlines said something like "Carolina Panthers Drop First Game to Bruins" or something like that above a picture of Staal. I mean I expect that from ESPN (cue screenshot) but from a NC Newspaper? Seriously?

I think last night was the first time Boston had to play a true "playoff" game. Their first five games, including game 1 of this series, were basically regular season games in that they were allowed to play their pretty little precision passing game. It's pretty incredibly to watch, because everyone always seems to know exactly where everyone else is going to be; it looks like they are playing a video game with the press box camera angle so they can always make the perfect play.

That said, last night we forced them to play a playoff style game by mucking it up and not giving them time to do the fancy stuff. They had their chances, but looked rushed and weren't able to cash them in. I think this is where the lack of experience finally became a factor for them. If they adjust quickly and plays a more gritty game, they could take over the series, but if they are slow to do that, we have a pretty good shot.

Or that Brindy isn't playing nearly as good as he was in 06.

^Nice! Thanks for sharing. A couple of my favorite tidbits:

^^thanks for that link.

favorable articles are always fun to read, but i think he has written a pretty truthful assessment of the 'canes. i hope teams continue to underestimate them.

and that was DEFINITELY a goal. there should be a camera positioned directly above the crossbar (so the crossbar and goal line are directly over each other. that would show definitively whether or not the puck crossed the line. anyway, it doesn't matter now.

That's the way it used to be, but since the crossbar is thicker than the line, it does more harm than good to position it that way. The current camera position gives a much better angle on the line/white/puck situations than the one that was directly above the line.

that makes sense. i didn't even think about the dimensions of the two. i guess i just assumed they were about the same size.

Dude, I completely trust your judgement and will support any Mo-Meter decision you make, but I did want to [respectfully] ask if that's such a good idea. The Mo-Meter is something rather important, and I wonder how wise it would be to change at such a crucial juncture.

I wouldn't want those Canes players who read this thread (a.k.a. all of them) to see a happy Mo on the Mo-Meter and get complacent. Just a thought.

I have been changing it to be a frown after a loss and a pleased expression after a win. I just forgot to do it last time.

Also OH MY GOOOOOOODDDDD

There will also be a Bojangles' Tailgate pack given away every 15 minutes from 3-4pm to get you ready for the game. The pack will go to the fans who show the most Caniac Spirit. The pack includes a cooler, coozies and coupons."

Shame on me! Sorry bout that, I should've had faith. I got fooled since all the previous posts are hotlinked and all change when you update the picture. Well played, sir.

Also, a big 'ol WORD UP regarding the free Boberry Biscuit. It must be a sign of good things to come, b/c today I went to Bo's to redeem my free promotional gift card from the Red and White game and found out it was worth $100!!! Needless to say it's been an afternoon full of optimism and awesomeness.
