I didn't know a real fix had ever been made for S2000 tops. I though they just ate through them, where you'd have to spend a fat sum of cash every few years to replace the top, and it was just a fact of S2000 life... 12/20/2012 1:55:44 AM |

^^Given that the technical service bulletin only applies to AP2 it would seem to me that something was slightly different on the AP1s. The next logical step beyond that is to believe that there is a fix.
My service advisor at the dealership was out on Tuesday, so they told me to call Wednesday mid morning. I call at 11 - guy is out to lunch. I leave a message...don't get a call back.
Oh how I love Honda customer service...

Guy in this thread wants to swap an EJ25 or a 4G63 into an S2000. WTF, why would anyone swap in an inferior engine. Nevermind that an EJ won't fit. You go LSx or nothing. Just stupid

4g63 block is significantly stronger even tho inferior in breathing. Infinitely more boostable but for the price of the swap you can sleeve and stroke an s2k. 2/13/2013 10:26:07 AM |

Yeah. I mean the F20C may have an aluminum block but it can still take 600+ hp on stock internals. 2/13/2013 12:59:07 PM |

^^&^^^I bought the car in 2008 for $21,333 from an Infiniti dealership in Charlotte. It had been advertised for $21,833.00. This was when the car was just 1 year old, and only had 4800 miles. Hence, the chuckle
(and yes, I got $18,000 trade in) 2/14/2013 9:16:04 AM |

Nice dude!
i'm still trying to figure this out tho... unless they have some huge head gaskets/spacers to drop compression (holy bad quench and blown head gasket risk batman) that much boost on stock compression would be sketch as fuck unless they have some sort of miracle hot-spot free combustion chambers.
so.... that leaves NAWS!?! cause i don't think cams and head work would do it. and i don't think the bottom end could spin another few thousand rpm either. 2/14/2013 9:24:23 AM |

yeah....I mean people on the forum say that but I didn't look into it. Stock CR is 11.1:1 I believe so I do feel like you would have to swap in lower compression pistons? 2/14/2013 11:13:42 AM |

Okay I looked around in the Forced Induction section over at http://www.s2ki.com and found a chart listing a lot of active users, their power levels, and what has been done to their cars. Here it is:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiG9riHOuMcTdFNkczAwcUhrSnEzV015WGNnQWtRT1E#gid=0
Looks like the most powerful S2000 with stock engine internals puts down 747 whp on E85. Highest output on 93 octane pump gas is 542whp.
Scroll all the way to the bottom and check out the fully built F20C putting down 907 whp. Sweet Jesus 2/14/2013 4:47:16 PM |

Well damn, nobody was impressed with my last post here Maybe this one will do better!
I've been hearing insider rumors for a while, but here's something a bit more concrete:
Quote : | "It looks like the S2000 will debut at Tokyo Auto Show this October. It will be built off the NSX platform but with the 2.0L VTEC Turbo and Hybrid AWD/7DCT. It may have lower powered version which will be a non-hybrid and RWD. " |
To call this an S2000 successor is a stretch. Still, looks like Honda is coming out with SOMETHING more reasonably priced than that GTR wannabe NSX that's about to drop.

A guy over at S2ki.com with reputable "insider info" has been hinting at an S2000 replacement/successor for almost a year now, and what he said lines up with this latest info.
I love my Cayman S dearly, but I can't say I wouldn't at least consider something similar from Honda if they actually built it. 4/28/2015 12:23:23 PM |

Hopefully they'll give us one unburdened with that shit. They're finally seeing the light and are going to offer a CRZ with a turbo 4 engine late next year - no hybrid shit. 4/28/2015 4:38:13 PM |

I have nothing against hybrids and for companies like mclaren they are pretty much mandatory.
But Jesus the only good thing that comes from selling an entire line of boring appliances would be that you cafe mpg standard is low enough to do something bonkers... So a bare bones mid engine enthusiast car should be feasible. I mean he'll if dodge can swing the hellcat twins and a viper Honda should be able to swing something wicked 4/28/2015 10:04:06 PM |

You lost me with this part of your conversation. The only McLaren with a hybrid drivetrain is the P1. And they admitted trying to build that car without hybrid assist but said the massive turbo lag made the car nigh undriveable at low speeds. (since they're more or less committed to just that one engine right now).

they also have to meet cafe standards dont they? 4/29/2015 10:18:09 AM |
TKE-Teg All American 43409 Posts user info edit post |
Yes and no, but that wasn't my point. My point was that the P1 is McLaren's only hybrid, and it's sold in such small numbers to barely even register on their fleet average (even though that too is ridiculously small).
And yes they have to follow CAFE regs, but they actually don't. They can instead just pay the penalty for going over the mandated fleet average, and just pass that cost along to their customers. Customers that 1) don't really give a shit about fuel economy and 2) have enough money to not even notice.
