The first time I kissed my now-wife was right in front of the bar in Jackpot. I hope that place never closes. I have a feeling I'm gonna be pretty sad 3 weeks from now.

I've spent 10x as much time at Jackpot than any other place in Raleigh. It really sucks to see it go. That place has character.

Additionally, this is bad news. Feel really bad for folks at both RF and JP who are, very suddenly, out of work. Saw a lot of RF people outside of the Times looking bummed last night.

Seems like D'Amelio had his shit together when he dropped $texas on you guys'es Christmas party at the Slimer in January. Is this just development-condos-Charlotteyuppiedouchebag-related? Was anyone given a heads-up?

I hope the jobs find everyone over there - I never realized how good a lot of the JP guys were until I started bartending myself. Even before they had the Point of Sale system, they were lightning on those tabs some nights.

from what i understand, JP has been floating RF for quite a while

the sale of the building that JP is in went through some time ago, so it was just a matter of time, and as JP goes, so goes RF

and yes, that whole jackpot/ihop block plus the old factory/warehouse on the next block are slated to become some sort of condo/mixed-use project

i hope it happens, too, because the only thing worse than seeing a cool place torn down for some cookie cutter housing is for a cool place to be closed under the pretense of replacing it and then it doesn't happen (kings, hillsborough st. music, etc.)

So I just read the last 3 pages of this thread, and have read the Rockford thread. And nowhere does it say WHY these places are closing. Can anyone shed some light on that, or at the least a link?

i am djing a wedding in a few weeks lol

been told i'd probably have a spot at Kings but i guess we'll see

i only started DJing a year ago though so i'm still learning. hopefully will pick up a few gigs before Kings opens.

still sucks though. that's $400 dollars a month out of my pocket, and it's even more for Brian and the bartenders

a developer from charlotte has finally acquired all of the property on that block and the jackpot lease is running out

so he's terminating the lease to begin work on a mixed used project that will see the destruction of the blalock plant, the old bakery, the jackpot, and the ihop
