40W this morning by harrison in the left lane. a van and 2-cars collided from following too closely when traffic slowed. i easily slowed, the person coming up behind me didn't notice and they had to dive onto the shoulder. that's why i flash my lights. 11/18/2016 9:38:51 AM

Did you easily slow because the person ahead of you put on their emergency flashers?? 11/18/2016 10:31:11 AM

You could get the same result by pumping your brakes. I'll do that a few times since I know my flashing brake lights is more likely to get the attention of the person behind me. 11/18/2016 12:43:07 PM

^^ no, i had a safe following distance
the person behind me did too (they were way behind me) they just weren't paying attention and ended up beside me on the shoulder 11/18/2016 12:51:00 PM

Now that my daily commute is 30 miles of interstate with a trip up and then back down a mountain it's blindingly obvious that the average person either has no clue that cruise control exists or is utterly unaware of how it works. 11/18/2016 9:43:51 PM

^ explain. A lot of cruise controls have too much overshoot and would be too erratic on mountain roads. I imagine variances in power make a difference too. i.e. a 4cyl vs a 8 cyl vehicle 11/18/2016 10:57:35 PM

What's to explain? People are utterly incapable of maintaining a consistent speed on the interstate. The existence of an uphill one way and downhill the other only exacerbates this condition.
It's 65mph for the first 8 miles of my commute and then 70 the rest of the way and yet people are regularly speeding up and slowing down at random intervals, passing me and then immediately going slower than I am once then get back over, etc. These aren't winding mountain passes either, it's literally a straight climb up and a straight shot back down on the way home. This is not in any way a difficult to negotiate or busy stretch of interstate. The semis have it down, it's all the cars that can't decide if they're going 60 or 80 that fuck things up.
The actual portion of the drive that has any grade to it is probably a mile or two in total.

you must realize the flow of this thread, which goes as follows:
that's dumb because, blah blah blah and also, you are dumb because blah blah blah
that being said, 1+1=2 11/19/2016 12:02:02 PM
