Yea. That's basically it. I wasn't really trying to compare them. They fall immediately into different classes.

AoS is surely vastly simpler, has less features, and looks worse. But it doesn't matter. All it needs to do is be fun for a round-based FPS and it is. The destructible terrain (you can destroy it from afar with gunfire; you can also destroy entire structures by taking out their foundations) is what makes it so much fun.

When I think Minecraft pvp, I'm comparing it to a persisent MMORPG and it's missing a lot of features you would expect: leveling/xp (in the traditional sense), quests, in depth magic system, classes or skills. Maybe some sort of clan system would make up for some of that because then if I lose all my xp and items, I can at least still build things within the protection of my clan... not sure. Also, most MMORPGs have a targeting system in order to put the focus on magic/skills. Now, you certainly could replace that with action-oriented combat, but come on.... if you've ever chased around a chicken with a sword, you know how clunky melee combat is in Minecraft. And finally, "competitive resources" seems to be a moot point on an infinite map.

Anyway, I'm totally willing to try it out and be proven wrong. Want to recommend some servers?

I changed the online map to be higher def, should be able to zoom in with more detail now. It only looks really nice when you choose the angled view.

Hey guys! Was wondering if we are updated to 1.31 yet. I am super excited about this update. It really has re-sparked my interest in the game, though, I never really lost the spark.
