I like to listen to opposing announcers call Cub games from time to time. I could only put up with Chip Caray for about 5 minutes. He's just as insufferable now as he was with the Cubs.

As a guy had to spend a couple seasons watching Bob fucking Rathbun on Turner South, I'm very appreciative of Chip Caray. He's a lot better than used to be, at least.

Volstad is 0-7 with a 7.46 era, so you'd be justified.

This is the most frustrating Barves team in a long time

^ Agreed.

This team cannot put all aspects of the game together. There are a lot of nice pieces on this team, but no superstars (Kimbrel maybe) and really the rotation now consists of a #2 type guy (Hanson) and four #4-#5 type starters (Hudson, JJ, Minor, Delgado).

That rotation isn't winning shit. Crazy that going into the season, the thing I worried about the least was the starting pitching.

The most frustrating part is that Liberty Media won't allow the braves to try to make any type of impact move, hence signing Ben Sheets at a low risk, and the power arm we have been linked to.......Jason Vargas of the Mariners.

I really don't hold Liberty too responsible for the Braves having a middling season. They have a budget, sure, but it's more than enough to put together a team that can win the East. There aren't really any top of the rotation saviors out there, anyway. Greinke is a possibility and the Braves have been scouting him. I'd be surprised if the Braves are within 5 or 6 in a month and don't make a move for a starter. Pack up Delgado and Minor and get someone worth a shit.

Agreed, but on paper it's still the best lineup in the division.

^ Exactly. A lot of nice pieces that make up a solid lineup, but horribly inconsistent too due to guys like Uggla, McCann, Heyward, and Chipper (not that Chipper is an inconsistent hitter, he's just not in the lineup enough).

Braves don't need to spend a bunch of cash to build a solid team, but they should cut bait on some of these young pitchers before they become the next Chuck James. The team needs a front line starter like Dempster in order to have a shot at the East crown this year.

Quote :
"The Braves are believed to be seriously considering a trade for Greinke even if they don’t have assurances of keeping him beyond 2012, David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution tweets. O’Brien doubts the Braves would offer Greinke $20MM per season on an extension.

A former teammate of Greinke’s told Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com that the right-hander would like to play for the Braves. Greinke likes Atlanta and wants to win badly, according to Greinke’s friend. The Braves, who have lost four of their past five games, haven’t yet decided how aggressively to pursue upgrades in midseason trades.

The Braves are willing to trade young arms for Greinke, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported yesterday."

Chipper having a good night. 4-4 with 4 rbi

also, that slide by prado is just another reason why he is the best player on this team. Maybe not the most gifted, but best overall player.

ugh, a great tailgate but a blah game, fucking double play after double play it seemed like... fireworks show was pretty badass and the woman and dad got a pic with Homer, but too bad I'm not 12 and would trade all that for Chipper having one good week's worth of knee.

Did he run through a stop sign when he was thrown out at home or did they wave him in?

Half way through the season and the Braves are headed for the worst kind of season (a .500 season). No playoffs and also no draft positioning.

Here's the team stats by MLB rank. Pretty fucking ordinary.

General Batting (Rank)
AVG: .259 (13)
Runs: 369 (9)
Hits: 713 (15)
Home Runs: 76 (18)
Stolen Bases: 49 (23)
OBP: .323 (12)
SLG: .405 (16)
Total Bases: 1115 (17)

General Pitching (Rank)
Earned Run Average: 4.01 (17)
Runs Allowed: 348 (12)
Saves: 26 (7)
Strikeouts: 614 (15)
OpBA: .253 (16)
OBP: .323 (21)
SLG: .403 (18)
Run Support: 4.61 (9)

So Venters got placed on the DL with an elbow impingement? Hope the time on the DL helps him remember how to not suck.

Braves get Phils this weekend and old fat ass, pig nose Ryan Howard is supposed to be back. Great timing for the Braves.

^ yeah since we are not facing the Orioles, it's not likely we'll get Jason Hammels. Not sure who Halliday is, but he sounds like he sucks. shoot must have an alias.

As for Cole Hamels and Roy Halladay, yes it is good the Braves don't have to face them this weekend.

Strange that the Barves have never played there. I think the Royals have been to Atlanta twice. I don't know if I've ever watched a live game being played at Kauffman.

I went to a Royals-Yankees game back in '06 or '07. Cool stadium especially for an older stadium. Royals have good fans too. People in Missouri will support their team regardless it seems.

Can't believe the Braves have not had an interleague game there. The Cards probably had 6 last year as they inched past the Braves for the wild card.
