"This was the first ever sexual encounter of any kind that (the boy) had ever had in his life," the lawsuit said. Ms Galyon's alleged harassment of the teenager was reportedly known around school. The boy left to enrol in home schooling after the incident. A month after the alleged rape, a school faculty member alerted administration officials, which led to the janitor's arrest."

^LOL! Seriously though, this was doomed from the start. As a teenager, banging someone in their 20's, or early 30's is probably awesome, but long term it won't work. You'll eventually get to that point where they are old and gray, but you are still young enough to get it from someone in their 20's who is close to your own age.

^^ well, in theory one could say "it was doomed from the start" for the reason you mentioned, but there *are* men who like older and even old women, so i thought maybe he was one of those.

however, since at 55 she is still looking good and maintaining a good figure, it was never clear if he was that type who like old women or not.

it did last longer than it would have in most cases i suppose... 21 years is no joke.

as much as i would like to speculate that he wants to be with young[er] girls, we don't know the reason why they are separating!

It would be interesting to see one of these cases where the teacher says she was forcibly raped and the student says it was consensual. I guess it would have to be two separate trails where the outcome of the first affects the 2nd or could they both be found guilty of rape? Or would you trial them at once and if the boy is found not guilty of rape then the woman is automatically guilty of statutory rape?

If so, what is the prevailing view amongst TWW as to why a single and attractive 25 y/o risks jail and unemployment to have relations with high school students?

As a teacher, I will say that you have to keep your guard up at all times and have clear boundaries with the students to prevent this sort of the thing. The teacher/student relationship involves getting to know each other on an intellectual level that is hard to do in a normal social setting. Without boundaries, humans will be humans.

Work and school provide a venue to get to know people on a deep level whereas bars and parties lead to a more superficial surface-level understanding of who a person is. You definitely need to maintain a good balance of work and personal life to the point where your personal life is wholesome/satisfying and more than just drinking events. That has to be extremely difficult in a place like Rocky Mount. Anyone over 18 leaves a place like that unless they have serious issues.

I could easily see how an emotionally unstable teacher could have felt a level of mutual understanding and romantic attraction that is hard to find with a man her age especially considering how attractive she is. A lot of women in their mid-20s have no problem finding men to have sex with but feel perpetually lonely emotionally and intellectually.
