So this is off topic, but would you ever date someone who wouldn't let you do certain nerdy things?

So there's this friend of Jonathan's who wants to come to a game night but his new fiance won't let him. He says she thinks it's too geeky and that he needs to do other things. Jon says this has happened before with friends of his, like they get married and the wife will put her foot down and say he can't go gaming or play video games any more.

I just don't understand the logic.

I've seen it over and over.


Last year I was at a function and a couple of the wives of some of the men I work with were talking and I thought I'd make small talk and I overheard the words "game" and "xbox" so I thought "oooooo now this is a conversation I can participate in!" so I stepped over and said something like how Jon and I were playing borderlands 2! They gave me the weirdest looks and apparently they were talking about how they were limiting the time allowed for video games and that the one woman stopped it altogether...

Guys let it happen because its a level of emotional abuse. They feel its nerdy, that fact is reinforced and they get worn down over time by the person they're with pointing out that the hobbies they have are "too nerdy".

By the time it becomes an issue of alienating friends it has occurred so long that they don't want to get into the argument that inevitably comes along with it.
