i've got this one. my dad gave it to me several years ago. it'll hold every car and their backup channel, all the race control channels, MRN, etc. you can also switch it to nationwide, trucks, ARCA, and Indy line-ups. it'll hold all of them in memory. i usually print a frequency list for the new season and program it on the way to the track if i don't have to drive. it'll also search for active frequencies if you go to some oddball race where you can't get a freq list. that's a lot of fun if you go to late model races and such.

There isn't a playoff in soccer? Lets not forget the real reason the chase was created, Kenseth bored his way to a championship without winning. NHRA adopted a chase format after NASCAR, I can't think of any popular forms of racing that still have a traditional points system. F1? I wouldn't call that racing, its follow the leader and hope they don't order you to let your "teammate" win.

Vickers:

Quote :
"Every weekend, every team in that garage goes on the track to win and put on the very best race they possibly can to honor fans — past, present and future. And to honor this great sport, NASCAR. MWR is no exception, but sometimes your race doesn't evolve as you planned and you're not battling for the win or the Chase. But oftentimes, your teammate is and you try to help him, whether it's by giving him your setup or maybe it's letting him lead a lap during the race, or maybe it's even giving him that one spot he needs to win the championship. Do you think that if you were running in 21st position and your teammate needed that one spot to win the championship, you wouldn't give it to him? You think that doesn't happen every race, every year? You think that if Jimmie Johnson was in front of Jeff Gordon he wouldn't give it to him? You think Mark Martin wouldn't have given a spot to Ryan Newman or Brad Keselowski to Joey Logano? They would — and they have.

Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon have acknowledged that teammates help each other all the time, but somehow, us pitting has crossed the line? Where is that line?
My interpretation of the rules is as follows: I'm driving the car and can drive it how I like — pit when we like, pass whomever I want and let whomever I want to pass me, whenever I want to. If those are not the rules, and if my team and I are not in control of our car and our race, and if we have to race how we're told and pit when we are told, then someone needs to clarify that and define the rules as such, including who would tell us. There is currently no rule that states you can't help a teammate or give a teammate your position if you choose. If we as competitors and fans of this amazing sport would like to have that rule, then let's write it. Maybe something to the effect of: "No two or more cars of the same owner may take any action that supports or helps his teammate by any means." Now before the pendulum swings in that direction, it is important to acknowledge that this is a very slippery slope and would be extremely difficult to police.

This approach undoubtedly would come with unintended consequences, not to mention have what I believe to be a negative impact on the quality and excitement of each race. But until this rule is in place, don't condemn our team or any other team that takes the same actions every single weekend.

Every lap we take, every car we pass, every pit stop we make changes the outcome of the race. Are we free to choose what and when those moments are or not? You can't have it both ways.

If helping a teammate, friend and brother in arms is a crime, then I'm guilty. I didn't make that call to pit last Saturday nor did I even understand why we did it at the time. But if my teammate(s) needed me again and it was of no consequence to me, my team or our partners, I would make the same decision time and time again.

So if death by a firing squad is what you want, then add me to the lineup. I stand by my team, not because it's easy but because it is right!"

I am jeff gordon fan and i agree with him....

If Truex was behind vickers and vickers had let him pass that would have been fine. The helped their teammate by playing the system. They went 2 laps down to allow a non-teammate to pass them just so their teammate could get a wild card spot.

jeff gluck:

Quote :
"To prevent similar actions during the Chase, though, NASCAR decided to implement immediate changes to its rulebook with a Saturday afternoon technical bulletin to teams.

Among the changes:

--A new rule will require drivers to race "at 100% of their ability with the goal of achieving their best possible finishing position in an event." That means no more deal-making, giving up a position for a teammate or "artificially altering" the finish of a race. Any driver or team engaging in such behavior – which could include intentional cautions or pulling off the track to give an advantage to another competitor – is subject to penalty.

--Digital radios may no longer be used on the spotters' stand. Spotters have communicated on a private channel with the team and crew chief – outside of the driver and public's earshot – in addition to the analog radio any fan can hear on a personal scanner. That led to deals being orchestrated from high above the track; those can no longer be done in secret.

--Only one spotter per car can be present on the spotters' stand. This affects teams such as Penske Racing, whose team owner Roger Penske has been a frequent presence alongside the spotters. To help enforce the policy, NASCAR is installing a camera on every roof.

--NASCAR will make a change to its restart rules, which will be announced during Sunday's pre-race drivers meeting."

so you cant let a teammate lead a lap? starting and parking illegal now?

glad they are changing the restart rules since they were so inconsistently enforced.

Hmmm This is getting outrageous. This has to be the only professional sport that just changes rules mid season. I support fixing the cheating, but how do you judge what is 100%? How do you judge if a spin is accidental? If you subtract the radio of Bowyers spin it would look accidental as long as Jr doesn't give his interview. Once again NASCAR has injected a grey area into the rule book.

The rule should be if you do the bullshit MWR did, we will park you for a week. Meeting over. Easiest way to fix the restarts "Boys have at it". Most of the issues with starts come from the leader trying to play games and lay back.

I think a lot of the interpretation will only come into effect towards the end of the race. Here's what I'm thinking:

Get within 50-100 miles left and then they'll really start paying attention.
I don't see penalties for letting teammates pass and get the lead lap bonus. I think the bigger issue deals with how the race finishes than something that happens in the middle of the race. Gordon can let JJ get a lead lap in Lap 200 of 500, but if it's Lap 498 of 500 and JJ is higher in the point standings and they're fighting for sixth, Gordon can't just lay it down.
Cars can still slide low and get out of the way for faster cars. Cars a lap down won't start blocking to keep their position or anything.
If you're going to wreck, it better look legitimate.
No more start and park.

Some of this stuff will be tough to enforce. Ultimately, teams will have to have a plan determined before the race even starts since radio chatter will be monitored and anything that sounds like deal-making will be heavily scrutinized.

NAPA leaving Waltrip at the end of the season as fallout from Richmond. They were in the middle of a 3-year deal that was running to 2015.

Imagine a lot of other teams will be catering to NAPA.

^^ I don't really care much about NASCAR, but doesn't that make it pretty pointless to even have teams? Why not just get rid of drafting next?

Multi-car teams in NASCAR are only around 25 years old. Which compared to the rest of motorsports is incredibly young.

Mid-race of one guy passing another it'd be impossible to legislate and I don't think NASCAR would care about that point of the race anyway. They don't just want guys giving up spots to change results at the end of races. "Intentional cautions", what is intentional or not is NASCAR's discretion. 3 laps to go, yeah, you can sometimes put 2 and 2 together, but Bowyer and MWR would've likely never gotten into trouble on that caution if there was no in-car camera or radio communication that became public.

Sure he got lucky with pit strategy and finished 6th. But he also at one point kept him out on old tires to the point that when he finally pitted he a lap and a half down. There's a reason every Hendrick driver besides JR wins, and its not talent in the drivers seat.

"RALEIGH, N.C. -- A North Carolina court says it will not revive a lawsuit from one of the country's largest auto racing track operators which says local officials reneged on millions of dollars in tax breaks for a new drag strip.

A three-judge state Court of Appeals panel ruled Tuesday against Speedway Motorsports Inc. and Charlotte Motor Speedway, who sued Cabarrus County.

The companies had threatened to move the 135,000-seat speedway and build a new drag strip somewhere other than the Charlotte region unless they got the tax breaks. They say they decided to build the drag strip and upgrade the speedway after an oral agreement for $80 million in tax breaks.

The appeals court said there was no binding contract since nothing was put in writing until after the drag strip opened.
