We just pre-looted our house and got all of the electronics sand valuables out. Called the insurance company to see about getting loss of use coverage. The adjuster will call us back tomorrow. Called ECU dead of students and left a message explaining my situation. They will hopefully call back tomorrow.
Even if power is restored tomorrow, our house will still require extensive electrical and plumbing work. As well as removal of all rain damaged stuff inside.
Also found out that FEMA will provide assistance if insurance cant cover all needs.
Just making sense of what is up and down now. I'm happy we didnt leave so we can take care of all of this now.

That thing is fullllll of false statements and facts.
She obviously has no idea what she's talking about. Chemicals in lagoons and it messing up the oceans? Please
References Floyd that happened in 1999 as well and those numbers are way off.
Can't trust that site nor that lady Langly with the river keepers. They are full of it.
But people will believe what they want depending on which side of the narrative they are on. And if they are truly educated on the subject.

They're claiming the lagoons were at a low before the storm because the manure had recently been sprayed out as fertilizer for the summer growing season. The official word is that--currently--rainfall has not exceeded lagoons' capacity "on whole" across the state.
Evidently, lagoons are required to meet a minimum buffer at all times in case of flooding. I can't quickly find what that minimum is exactly, but the NC Pork Council stated that most farms in the "major production area" had a buffer of 25 inches ahead of the storm and some had more than that.
The vague language in both the before and after statements leads me to believe that they really are trying a little harder each storm to prevent lagoon flooding, but they couldn't and aren't making any promises. Hopefully, no lagoon walls have completely failed.
http://www.ncpork.org/prepared/ https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-09-16/hog-manure-lagoons-stay-contained-as-rains-pummel-north-carolina
Other links reveal that they are trying, but they're still not doing enough--even when there is no approaching storm. Big lagoon disasters usually end up having the whole area shut down, but there are lesser infractions occurring routinely, and they are not self-reported for obvious reasons. And I don't think this riverkeeper lady, Ms. Langley, is crazy for suggesting that they resort to "overfertilizing" when they have to deal with a bunch of waste really fast.
In general, it seems to me that rural folks are defensive because they know hog farmers, and they know how hard and unrewarding the work can be. So it's important to hold places like Smithfield accountable for this environmental stuff--not the actual farmers who are also harmed by our lust for cheap pork.

Yeah, let's worry about the highly regulated hog lagoons when massive amounts of human shit regularly end up in drinking water, include the huge one that happened because of Florence. Also that coal ash pond breach is much more concerning. At least McCrory isn't still governer as he would just let his buddies off with another slap on the wrist for poisoning a bunch of people/an entire ecosystem. 9/17/2018 5:34:25 AM
