how do yall feel about sleeveless tops for a grad school interview?

such as:

or, a shirt like this:

keep in mind, both types would be tucked in and worn with a pant suit

I'm just worried I'm going to get hot and want a classy sleeveless style..

[Edited on January 21, 2010 at 4:04 PM. Reason : by the way, the second one is just regular long sleeves]

tartsquid, my face definitely plumps out when I gain but it's usually the first thing to go when I do lose it, could be 10 pounds or 50, it'll show on my face.

I'm going to try it but I'm going to wait a little bit.

I'd go with the top one. Especially if you're wearing a jacket. I like the color for that top a lot too.

^ I can't do that.. I'm wearing it with a black pant suit (classy) - can't do anything flashy :\

I could try that for work though I guess

Sam, check your options at TJ Maxx or Marshall's. You may find a shirt in a similar style for just a fraction of that price.

Would someone please recommend a nice, sturdy, slip-on shoe for summer for <$60 that's available in EE? I'm poking around on zappos, too, so general brand recommendations are welcome, too.

This is for running around, trips I take (I try to take only sneakers, a pair of dress shoes (if the trip includes a wedding, as they have lately), and a slip-on pair), and casual days at work.

Something that dries fast is a major ++.

I was looking at these last night, if that helps.

Think something between river shoe, sneaker, and the style of flats that are in now.

I know this won't work out for everyone but I've been handling my own waxing for a while now with a GIGI Pro Kit. I've gone through three 14oz jars of the All Purpose Honee Wax in five years (two came with the kit I ordered).

Oh I'll have a suit jacket. The only time I think I would ever take off the jacket is if I got hot during our luncheon with current students.

I think I'm going to go try them on and decide then.

These are the shoes I got for a funeral I'm not going to and then to be my new pair of work shoes

--
Unrelated, but I have to gripe somewhere, because this is really chapping my ass:
I think it's time to switch gyn practices. I went to the gyn 1/15 at 140 pm to talk about treatment for PCOS - namely, metformin, for the insulin resistance; resolving the insulin resistance will cause my testosterone levels to drop, and resolve a number of secondy symptoms. Dr agreed that metformin is warranted and appropriate, and writes an rx. But she has blood drawn, to check cholesterol and kidney function before I start the metformin.

I had to call repeatedly to find out if those values were fine, and if I was clear to start taking the medicine. I finally get a nurse to tell me on this past monday, and she goes 'dr soso is very concerned about your glucose and triglyceride levels! She wants you to see your PCP immediately to address these!' I had to specifically ask about the kidney function (fine, of course).

My glucose and every single other blood level measured (and there was a whole battery) were well within 'normal' ranges back in august, when I saw my PCP for this exact issue (not yet connecting the dots to the girlparts). I told the nurse this, and she said the dr would call me back yesterday (btw, she didn't. I called, and found out she was only in for a few AM hours).

The two results they're spazzing about so much? They're to be done on a 12hr fast. Note the bolded appointment time up there They were not done on a 12hr fast

My husband and I are starting to talk about having kids. We have no idea what sort of obstacles the PCOS might create; I think it kind of matters here (more than, say, for a PCP) to be able to communicate with my doctor, and also to have a doctor to whom context matters (e.g., not freak out over "abnormal" results on tests that weren't even done properly).

It may be that one phone call reveals that the dr wasn't actually concerned; that it was an admin person who was alarmed, and misspoke for the dr. But since I can't actually talk to her to find out...

shoe recommendations:

http://www.zappos.com/skechers-bikers-step-up-black

http://www.zappos.com/drew-delite-sky-blue-nubuck-white-mesh these are a bit pricier but the orchid mesh ones are cute

http://www.naturalizer.com/Shopping/ProductDetails.aspx?p=EC0220663&pg=3006279 naturalizer W is quite wide, its been enough for my foot on some occasions.

http://www.naturalizer.com/Shopping/ProductDetails.aspx?p=EC0219505&pg=3004852

maybe you could track these down at another retailer.

new gyno:

i recommend Dr. Allison Jacokes at Associates in womens health of raleigh. She has treated me for PCOS when others failed to help me. http://www.associatesinwomenshealth.net

There is also a specialist at duke in Reproductive Endocrinology. I cannot remember her name but I am sure Dr. Jacokes could refer you. I went there for a couple of appointments when I was having a PCOS crisis before I could have my appointment with Dr. Jacokes.

Thanks

I forgot to specify: I hate nubuck. And suede. Those also don't help in the 'fast-drying' dept

I liked both the sketchers one and the naturalizers. I actually had in my past zappos order a shoe from naturalizer that was EE and it was not at all wide enough (I thought I had a funeral to go to today, and while my work shoes have been limping along well enough for work, something about eletrical tape and holes in the uppers makes them not suitable for a funeral. So I ordered 7 pairs of shoes and chose a pair and am returning the other 6 yay free next-day shipping ).

I may very well order those skechers. Thank you.
--
We'll see about the girlparts drs. I've gotten a few recommendations for the same few docs and practices, and from drs/people with PCOS/exposure to.

shopping for an EE sucks, theres no doubt about that. Have you tried the wide shoe warehouse out near the airport? its good if you need a pair of shoes RIGHT NOW, but last summer their stock was getting tired. I haven't been since then but I assume they got some new inventory.

Halp.

I need pants. Every time I try to shop for them I end up getting super pissed off because it seems next to impossible to find some that actually fit me correctly. I'm short (5 feet), and I have hips. I am fine with getting longer pants hemmed, but I find that a lot of times that messes up the cut of the pants and makes them look a little weird. Places that sell juniors pants normally have lengths that fit me OK, but apparently juniors = no ass. And most of the time I try to shop in women's departments I find that the waist line is pretty high and I end up with mom pant action going on. I don't want pants that go up to my belly button.

I need work-appropriate pants more than jeans, but ultimately I need both. With nice pants I also run into problems with pockets. They tend to bow out ... I'm sure you all know what I mean. And I would take that as a sign to go up a size, except then everything else about the pants fits like crap and I look like I'm wearing a sack. Sooo anyone else have this problem and have any suggestions on where I can find pants that don't have to be completely overhauled by a tailor?

I've been once.

I wasn't impressed. I ended up buying the same brand there that I always buy from zappos: softspots. Their shoes are divine. And cute They have some durability issues, sometimes, though.

If you decide to buy: go down half a shoe size. I usually wear an 8 or 8.5, and wear a 7.5 in them.

I told mom about these new shoes, and she asked the brand. Turns out she used to buy her nursing shoes from them in the 80s. Which would explain why they're so damn comfortable.

i have bought several pairs of the softspots, they are pretty good shoes but the molded heel cup they put on practically all their sandals rubs my foot wrong.

other good shoe sites for EE are designershoes.com and onestopplus.com

heres some more you might like better

I KNOW

i have no idea what size i really am...it varies from store to store. the only thing thats usually consistent are certain designers that i can't afford to buy everytime!

speaking of....

i accidentally just purchased a GANT (shit) wool plaid jacket/blazer. it is the cutest thing EVER and totally not worth the price even on ruelala...but i'm going to wear it every day of my life. and i better cause it was still pricey. but i love it i love it i LOVE it. Skwinkle you should try the petite section!! sounds like most of your problems come from trying to wear normal length pants. if you have hips you'll probably still have to take in the waist but that's a pretty inexpensive alteration.

i did A LOT of on line shopping this weekend. oops.

i don't think i'll end up keeping it all since nothing ever fits me right, but a lot of places have good winter clothes on sale and since it is still winter for awhile, and winter will come next year - i figured, might as well stock up!

i can't wait to get everything!

ladies

i really like the semi slouch boot look for the winter but i have no idea how to wear it

all i wear outside of work are jeans, tshirts and flip flops or low profile sneakers...sometimes heels if i am going out

i wear cute shit to work but i can't take it down to a casual level. i want to wear jeans but dont know what to match it with other than a tshirt

has anyone ever been to a charming charlies store? they're all over houston and they have the cutest shit but again, i have no idea how to wear it. i can decide if i like something but when it comes to putting together an outfit im clueless and just go boring aka safe

if you don't live near a donation drop off location (all are west coast based right now) you can mail your donations in

personally, i never knew what to do with bras once i replaced them. i think i sent them off to goodwill but i'd prefer to donate them to a specific cause. its pretty sad that some women don't even have a proper bra.

not sure if you can write off the amount you spent on postage, but it would prob be under $5 anyway

maybe at the next swap you guys could pitch in for a flat rate box and everyone can bring their bras to donate and you could collect at the party. that would make it even cheaper to send.. like $1-2 per person

Hayyy girls!!!

I just wanted to check in and let you all know about a big beauty event coming to Saks

If you like Chanel or want to try it let me know, this is a great opportunity. They have 2 artists coming in on March 5th & 6th (fri & sat) and are booking appointments. They really wanna fill the seats so don't feel obligated to buy (though I'm sure they'd love for you to) haha. This is a good opportunity to learn tips and tricks that you can use with your own make-up. Chanel makes my fav mascara so at the least, get a makeover and buy a $20 tube!

Anyways holler if you're interested and I can get you an appointment!

Stop by and see me sometime if you want a bra fitting too! I'll let ya know when I'm actually having an event too!

Word!
