well i suppose maybe its just a flaw in this finish? its like 2 or 3 tiny nicks close together but not drawn out in a line. like it impacted something or maybe somehow got fucked up when they dipped it? (they do dip the camo finishes right?)

i mean i bought it at bass pro shop, they pulled one out of the back. i inspected it and didnt see anything. i havent taken it hunting or anything, just shot it off the deck some and cleaned it.

then i noticed a little nick in the camo! it just bothered me because its so new, i dont guess its a big deal. kind of a silly gun to get upset about the finish on really...

a camo remington 870 ultramag that i got for less than $400. i guess we all have our vices-

It's possible it was like that when you bought it. It's also possible you put it down on a nail that popped it of the wood on your deck or you dropped the bolt on the barrel when you were cleaning it.
It doesn't matter what happened, just know that it's going to happen unless you leave the gun in the safe.
Its always funny when someone asks how to prevent holser wear on something like a carry gun. You simply can't. It's bound to happen.
If its a realistic looking camo then yes, it's dipped, which is basically a super thin plastic wrapping. Check out the dings and jus make sure none of the finish is lifted off of the metal on the edges of the dings. If it is lifted, jus a really sharp knife to cut the lifted part off so it's all flush. If you don't it could potentially be a good spot for rust to start (though not likely unless you do something like leave it outside for a few days). The gun has a painted base coat under the camo. If its scratched through that to bare metal you could find some krylon that matches and put a tiny bit on.
If it really bugs you you can always sand blast the entire thing and chrome plate it

yes. all of mine have dings. just like a new vehicle. it's gonna get dinged and you're the person who will notice them much more than other people and in the end, most of them don't matter (until you go to sell them )

^x7 have you thought about refinishing those yourself?
I've done a shotgun and other parts in KG Gun Kote with good results. All you need is a sandblaster, degreaser, cheap airbrush, and some gun Kote.
If you can find someone with a sandblaster or a least an air compressor then you can spend $50-75 and do all three guns in a weekend.

Hey all -- I have a couple 22's (ruger mkii, savage bolt action) and a 30-06 for hunting. Ive reached that point where I really just need a normal 'ol 9mm I think.

With that being said, I've always had a crush on the CZ 75b but am certainly open to some other things -- CZ sp01 (kind of like the cz 75b), FN FNP, 92fs, Armalite ar-24, xdm, etc etc etc. Ideas? Thoughts? Concerns? Comments?

My budget is around 500-550 or so, new or used is fine. Im currently in Cincinnati for a while so Ive got a short drive (80min) to Buds Gun Shop, so I plan on handling a few of these this upcoming weekend.

My AR's look well used. Scratches, wear marks, Knicks in the plastic stuff...
It just shows that it is used.
I carry my glocks a lot though, and dont have wear marks on them.

^The Glock tenifer finish (and other well executed melonite finishes) is something special. The durability is way beyond Gun Kote, Cerakote, Duracote, or anything else you can do at home short of hard chrome plating. It's too bad all black guns can't be finished in tenifer.

Whatever you can find. I got the basic Badger model from Michaels that uses cans of compressed air. It works great but the air cans are expensive. After you've done 2 jobs and split the cost of the other equipment, the cans of air can easily become the most expensive part of a refinishing job depending on how big the job is. I need to find a fitting to go from my air compressor to the air brush line. If you go that route don't forget to use an air dryer. Moisture in your line could ruin all your prep work.

Anything nicer than a basic brush will give you more control over the flow and spray pattern. That's important if you're painting caricatures on a t-shirt but doesn't matter that much when you're just trying to get an even coat of paint. I found it works well if you set the brush to put out a light coat and make multiple passes. Too heavy a coat will cause a bigger variation in coverage thickness that you can sometimes see. The thing that sucks though is if you set it low you'll run through more cans of air.

You really need to just handle and shoot as many guns as you can.
Some people like polymer guns, others don't.

You should try a Glock, S&W M&P, or Xd and a Sig 226/229, 75B, or Beretta 92 and a 1911 or Browning Hi Power. Basically you should shoot at least three guns (plus a revolver if you've never shot one of those).

The biggest differences in handguns are in the firing system/trigger type. There are three main groups, the striker fired Glock-like guns, the DA/SA Sig-like guns, and the true single action only 1911-like guns.
Figure out what trigger/operating system you like then we can suggest more specific models.

BTW, I love my SP-01 (an "improved" 75B) and think highly of the 75B. IMO the 75B will run side by side with the classic Sigs but cost a lot less.
I also love the simple easy to maintain and reliable design of Glocks, they just don't fit me well. Idk...there are too many good choices. That's why I have so many guns I guess.

i just moved to san diego area and decided to leave my guns with my family in NC because i was not even gonna chance breaking a law out here with them.

side note, this guy in florida does this ridiculous concealed weapons class. its just you and him for 4 hours shooting all kinds of guns and from all different holsters. but your running half the time. learning to shoot in the dark, with lasers, running, if your a girl...from your purse without pulling it all the way out, from the ground, while running...etc. he supposedly passed a legally blind person too.

he has a website that i gotta find and he only charges a couple hundred bucks. He trains SF, special police forces like swat, and a lot of others. he told my friend she would be shooting better than her husbands marine friends after his class.

i held one with a scope already mounted at a gun show and wasn't impressed. i haven't shot the scout rifle configuration, but the forward mounted scope felt all wonky to me. i'd just go with the classic lever 30-30 with a 2-7x scope.

The older ones have a little bit better fit and finish, but people say they all shoot about the same.
I don't think the old ones sell for any more than you'd expect.

If you get an old one you should be aware they changed the trigger mechanism at some point because people kept killing themselves. That may or may not matter to you. Some people like the old triggers.

I just picked up a CZ-75B. I've been in the market for a 9mm. I've shot the Beretta 92FS, Glock17, and a Sig P226. I like the P226, but haven't found one in my price range. Call it a compulsive buy, but I decided to buy it without ever shooting one. I figure if I don't like it, I can resell it. I think I bought it at a decent price.

What'd you pay, if you don't mind me asking?

If you've shot a 92FS and 226 and like the grip of the 75B then you're going to like the gun as a whole. The triggers are very similar and it points just as good, maybe better, than those two.

I own an SP-01 and have had a 75B and I like that series of gun. I like the SP-01 more due to the shorter distance from the front strap to back strap and the forward weight, but it cost quite a bit more. The more muzzle neutral balance of the 75B isn't as good for stationary shooting (don't get me wrong, it's plenty accurate) but it does seem to get on target faster than some guns and point a little more naturally imo.

BTW, break your magazines down and wipe them out really well. Both my SP-01 and 75B had mags that were soaked in preservative. That much liquid in a mag isn't a good thing. Now that I think about it, the whole gun (75B) was soaked in a lot of preservative. It's messy stuff.

I paid $400 with two three clips and a 50 box of ammo. It's not an outstanding deal, but not an awful one. Apparently magazines are not cheap. It has had 300 rounds through it.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm planning on breaking it down, cleaning and lightly lubing everything after I hit the range. Any suggestions? I was going to use Hoppe's 9. Same stuff I use on my rifles and shotgun.

any of y'all have experience with .17 HM2? does it offer something for the squirrel hunter that the .22LR doesn't? it shoots flatter and is generally more accurate than .22LR and .22 WMR, but would i be better served by just continuing to squirrel hunt with the .22LR and get a .17 HMR? headshots with my marlin 795 aren't much of a problem out to 40 or 50 yds if i do my part and that's after not even trying many ammo types and going with my "go-to" CCI minimag HPs. haven't screwed with the trigger yet either.

of course, i'll probably just end up with both a HM2 and a 17 HMR

^^^That's a good deal.
I only use solvents in the bore of any gun I clean. Everything else gets cleaned with Breakfree CLP then lubed with CLP or Breakfree LP. I just hate the idea of not getting all the solvent out of an action after using it to clean. if I don't get all the CLP out it's no big deal because that's the lube I use anyway.
For the bore I scrub with CLP then use Hoppes' Benchrest #9, it's basically #9 with more copper solvent. If there's a lot of copper fouling I may use Barnes CR-10.
I occassionally use Breakfree Powder Blast or brake cleaner on caked on fouling like on AR-15 bolts.

I like to clean mags by wrapping some patches with CLP around a 45 or 480 nylon bore brush and just wipe it around the inside swapping patches til the come out clean.

^Can you get replacement 17 HM2 barrels for a 795?
I don't have any experience with any of the 17s, but if I had to pick i'd get the HMR over the HM2 unless it was a simple conversion for a gun I already had. The 17HM2 just doesn't seem like a big enough improvement to buy a whole gun.

not that i can find. i was thinking a used CZ 452 American in HM2. a Savage would be good too, but i've got one in 22 WMR and i plan on getting another savage 12 in 22-250 similar to the one that was stolen. before i know it, i'll have nothing but savages. i mean, they're great rifles and a great value, but that will get boring quick.
