One of unc's best baseball players was suspended for the upcoming spring due to violating university policy. According to them it is not related to the football shenanigans.

Interesting because the most reputable sources on PP have been calling for baseball to get hit next.

That's my favorite part. Maybe in their athletic department that's the case, but outside of fantasy land everyone would be calling for his head if UNC was 4-7 at this point in the season. After the FSU game they had a very good chance to go 8-4 and suddenly the 'Davis is being unfairly persecuted' talk started to surface. Of course the best they can do now is 7-5, which is probably enough.

It'll never happen but I hope Duke beats them, if for no other reason than to see how the fans divide out and what support Davis would have as a result of the loss. UNC will probably destroy them though, and Davis will get that extra boost in support. At this point I think it's all about the team's record.

This was the arrogant gem today. Carolina may lose to State in Football but we are up 37-0 in Rhodes Scholars.

Well hate to rain on their parade but Rhodes Scholars are normally going for MBA's or other similar degrees whereas our Grads normally move into the High Tech field that would not benefit from a Rhodes Scholarship.

^let me preface this by saying its super gay to argue academics after a sporting loss. Lets take it one degree further for this fan. Harvard may not beat UNC in the next 50 years, but their endowment is "x" and the amount of CEOs is "x" and the amount of Rhodes Scholars is "x", nobel prize winners, etc.

That being said, your post is pretty dense. You can study pretty much anything at any of the 20 some odd Oxford colleges with the scholarship, and they have pretty much everything including the sciences. 37-0 is a pretty good ass whipping. Hell, FSU had a Rhodes scholar 2 years ago (football player) and I don't think of them as a bastion of academic merit!

Edit: I'm not saying it doesnt favor liberal arts unis, but damn, 37-0 is hard to swallow.

I really don't see what the fuss is about with rhodes scholars. It seems to me like one of those things that is perceived as awesome because people have always thought that it was a huge deal.

I mean, obviously the folks that win a rhodes scholarship are high performing, hard working kids, and it's certainly a big honor for them, but i don't see why it would earn bragging rights for your school. It would be like bragging about the number of park scholars or morehead scholars that came from my high school. But somehow, the Rhodes tag makes people think that these kids are some ridiculous level of elite and will be running the world one day.

Looking at the list of UNC rhodes alumni, you'd think that these people would be the illuminati or something, but these people are no more accomplished than an arbitrary list of notable NCSU alumni.
