We lose today we are virtually out of the picture for qualification aren't we?

It would put Guatemala on 9 points and assuming Trinidad win against St. Vincent it would put them on 10 points. US would then have Trinidad and St. Vincent as must wins and a maximum we could get are 10 points in the group. So we would need St. Vincent or Trinidad to at least beat Guatemala and hope they only gain 1 more point and we somehow make up a 3 goal differential.

^I haven't looked at the standing, so I have no clue. I did read a little while ago that if we don't win we have a 10% chance of advancing to the next round.

Kickoff is at 7:25

Guzan; Yedlin, Birnbaum, Cameron, Castillo; Zusi, Beckerman, Bradley; Wood, Dempsey, Zardes.

For some reason, I think we are going to roll tonight.

0-0 draw incoming

I never watch soccer, but watched tonight. US dominated. Could have easily been 7-0.

Cololmbia Own Goal

^ Yeah we missed two easy chances before the half and then the 17 year old kid got his goal taken away on a bad offsides call

Fuck, just got a bull shit second yellow in the u-23 game. Now down to 10 men and need to score 2 to win. Got a nice Fuck You Ref chant going on TV

Getting real chippy. Fuck these Colombians acting like they got shot every play. Embarrassing

Glad to see the full team win, but it sucks the U-23 team lost. I feel like this pool needs as much national team experience and international tournament experience as possible to make themselves better. The 2010 squad that won their group at the World Cup had players that played together in the U-20 World Cup, 2008 Olympics, 2009 Confederations Cup, Copa America, and 2 Gold Cups. That probably didn't hurt the younger players in that pool.

^^You are right, it was not long after they subbed him in and the reaction by the commentators made me think it was the 17 year old. It should have been Finaly's first international goal.

Keeps us alive but we still need to beat Trinidad away. No excuse for dropping anymore points. I am actually worried slightly about the hex should we get there. Mexico struggled last time too and needed our help.

We already drew them away.

St. Vincent away and T&T at home are the games we have left.

^ Mexico struggled to get into the World Cup and look at them now. Sometimes it just takes players understanding each other. No one is hiding the issues, I think we have plenty of them but to say we have issues isn't enough. We have to understand how to fix them and for now the USSF believe Klinsmann is the man to lead us to Russia in 2018 and I hope to see us improve as long as he is here.

Do I believe he deserves to get fired? Yes. Do I want the US to lose so he can get fired? Absolutely not.

US Soccer considering not having games in NC because of the new law that discriminates against GLBT. I know we are in an election year, so everyone is overly excited about politics, but I'm sick of it. It's becoming more annoying by the day.

Does US Soccer ever play games in NC anyway? I didn't realize us soccer was taking political stances now. Maybe they should focus on actually producing quality soccer.

I think the last game they played in Cary was in 06 vs Jamaica. Don't think they've ever played at BoA Stadium.

^The last men's game was Jamaica vs USA in Cary, but the women's team has played in Cary multiple times.

I like what one person posted in another thread, "But they have no problem playing in Cuba, Russia, or Qatar."

^In america, we should hold ourselves to a higher standard. When these sports leagues make a stand against embarrassing legislation like this, it can often times make a difference.

You would, because you're too thick to see that, "We're not quite as bad as Cuba and Russia" is a horrible argument for anything.

I think it's a valid point to point out that the United States Soccer Federation's ethical grandstanding is they say they will not play in North Carolina due to a piece of legislation, but they are publicly silent on slave labor practices to build stadiums for the Qatar World Cup that the U.S. currently plan on playing in in 6 years. Qatar's use of slave labor is worse than Apartheid in my opinion.

^ That would be stupid for the US to denounce when it is a FIFA problem. I agree its abhorring but unless several more relevant football nations decide to band together and denounce and boycott it then nothing will happen. Its not the same comparison IMO.

Pulisic out there scoring goals for the second place team in the third best league in the world as a 17 year old. Pretty impressive just to even make the bench at that age for Dortmund let alone contributing..

^^That's because he did a Landon Donovan and said he wanted to take a break, but might come back. That gets you benched, or kicked off the team with a European Coach.

Wait, we're upset that an MLS goalkeeper is being benched in favor of Brad Guzan? I love Timmy, but his time has passed.

The Australian Women's National Team, the Waltzing Matildas, lost a scrimmage to a Newcastle (AUS) Jets U-15 boys team 7-0.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11645926

Quote :
"Football: Physical differences reason for thumping, says Australian women's football coach

In the wake of an embarrassing 7-0 loss to an under-15 boys side, Australian women's football coach Alen Stajcic has shifted the blame to 'physical differences' being the reason for the heavy defeat.

The Matilda's played a Newcastle Jets youth side composed of under-15 players in preparation for both a two-match series against the Football Ferns and the 2016 Rio Olympics..."

I didn't see that it was Newcastle JETS. The headline I saw only said Newcastle, and I assumed it meant a Newcastle United academy team, which isn't so bad. Newcastle Jets is bad.

^ I say he should. Go all out. I haven't watched the USA friendlies but I am excited for the match tomorrow. It would be amazing if we won. Sadly more than half of this country won't give two shits if we won a copa america match in America against one of the regional powerhouses in South America. Sad state of affairs.

So disappointed in the hype around this tournament. If this was England at the Euros no "football fan" would miss a match this huge. Even a lot of my friends won't be watching. Just goes to show that football in the US will never be big enough to actually matter or win something meaningful. All of these "fans" should just not watch during the World Cup either, they don't deserve to.
