NC sunset during a roadtrip
Soooooooooo vibrant. 4/20/2009 6:50:15 PM |

way too dark. i'm sure your focus was on the sunset, and that's fine, but the way the trees are along the road really draws your eyes to the setting sun. that would be good, except once they get there, there's just a lot of black and i think that takes away from the overall image. a little longer shutter speed would have been nice to lighten up the foreground and maybe you could have seen the reflection in the tractor trailer on the right. 4/20/2009 6:57:57 PM |

Cool thanks but I was in a moving car and I purposefully moved the levels to get it slightly darker than it was. 4/20/2009 7:00:29 PM |

My Girlfriend shot some of my soccer games... I'd set the camera up for her and she'd shoot... started using the flash for action shots... intensity and stuffs (that's me) (I upped the saturation a bit, cropped and rotated, but decided to leave the sky natural)
got my sb-400 today... should improve things even more
Kiwi I like the shot... I think it's neat overall but it does appear a tad over tweaked... but hell if I know anything

Bounce flash...kids and puppies NEVER hold still while awake so you either need broad daylight or a flash to catch them in action ... Spray and pray...but be mindful to fill your frame with cuteness so Wide zoom range so you can frame that amazing shot right next to you or all the way across the room. I never realized that I needed a flash until I spent a weekend with kids and puppies with my family and lost a TON to blurry 4/21/2009 10:28:02 PM |
xmikemasonx Veteran 339 Posts user info edit post |
its outside so maybe i'll get lucky and won't have to use flash, all i have is the on-camera flash on my xsi and it seems to almost always just wash everything out or make people look much worse than they should.
thanks for advice. 4/22/2009 1:35:24 AM |

no, none of these are groundbreaking or spectacular, but i do very much love this d90...i miss a number of features of the panny (if nikon can put in a live view, why can't they put in a screen that folds down and swivels?), but a DSLR truly is a whole different level...the 18-105mm stabilized kit lens is awesome, though i know i'm going to want a BASIC macro lens in the immediate future and a telephoto sometime before new zealand in the fall...i know i could sort through the thread to find recommendations, but i'd prefer it if y'all could recommend affordable macro and telephoto lenses
these aren't even that great (i truly hate poor incandescent lighting), but i never would have been able to get these on my old camera
do y'all keep any filters on your lenses? i bought a UV filter for this lens, not because i think it's really all that effective, but because i'd rather sacrifice an $11 unit than risk the glass itself if, heaven forbid, it gets dropped or bumped...also, it doesn't seem to negatively affect the images...what do you think?

how long have you had the d90? 4/22/2009 11:07:17 AM |
quagmire02 All American 44225 Posts user info edit post |
ah, nevermind...i jumped the gun...i probably just need to unlearn some bad non-SLR habits so as not to depend on the swiveling screen as much...the d90 seems to be better in all respects EXCEPT for the swiveling screen (which probably doesn't matter to most people)...now that i realize the d5000 doesn't have the in-body focus, i'm feeling much better
SILLY CRISIS AVERTED.

I was shooting a river and well, my camera, my tripod, and myself ended up in it. The camera seems to be ok, but my lens is all fogged up. Can I do anything about it or is it gone for good? Thank goodness it was only my shitty kit lens. 4/25/2009 4:32:29 PM |

I was shooting a waterfall on some rocks. Had the camera up to my eyes and took a few steps back, slipped off the rocks and into the river.... the camera only went in for a second, and was still on when I pulled it out. I took the battery out and dried it off. Now it's sitting in front of my heater, i haven't tried it again. Luckily I didn't have any of my other gear on my back... 4/25/2009 5:36:13 PM |

At least you didn't fall in the ice like I did...
Visiting my fiancee's family in Wisconsin we stop by the lake -- it was snowing, the lake was icy, but there were waves splashing on the beach...which is just a crazy scene to someone raised in NC.
I hop out of the truck and go down to the beach, I'm stepping over some rocks covered with ice, and then I had a leg go through the ice, totally up to my crotch. Thankfully I didn't break or twist anything, and I didn't go in further than just my right leg.
...didn't get my camera wet either. Being a moron, I immediately took a shot of my icy leg right after pulling myself out of the water. 4/25/2009 6:24:33 PM |
