You can make $10 or $15 per hour in FT bonus if you can 4-table .5/1nl or 1/2nl respectively, more if you play 6-max.. UB clears considerably slower at $6 or $10 per hour at the same limits.

Unfortunately, given the current state of affairs, FT bonus is looking pretty good. I hope to move up to 2/4nl within 3 or 4 months and get on the rakeback train, cause bonus whoring has taken a serious hit with the loss of ongame and others.

What in the world do you think he has here? Put yourself in his shoes. What would make you bet that way? He calls on the flop, which should have sent warning signals right away. Why would he call? I can think of about 7 reasons for a call here:
1. He has the 7 and he is slow-playing the shit out of you.
2. He has the 7 but he is nervous about his kicker.
3. He has a 10 but he is afraid of the 7.
4. He limped in with an overpair and is afraid of the 7.
5. He limped in with an underpair.
6. He is calling with overs, or on some kind of draw (89, maybe a flush draw?)
7. He is setting up a bluff.

OK, he bets about the pot on the turn, what can we eliminate?
1-2. You're obviously fucked.
3. You're now calling for half the pot. Always a bad play.
4. Once again, you're fucked.
5. You win. Yay!
6. You're way ahead (if he's on a flush or a straight draw, he's done.) Yay!
7. You're obviously not errr... seasoned enough to lay down this "monster", so once again, if he's bluffing, you win. Yay!
I can see leading out with 1000 in ANY of the above scenarios, basically to either sucker some chips out or to see where he stands, so IMO, your (weak) call here tells me nothing about his hand. Thus we eliminate nothing.

The river. Seriously. I don't mind the stab at the pot, but after his reraise, you HAVE to be able to know that at the very best, you're splitting the pot with this guy, and odds are, you're probably losing the hand.

So, you ask, what could you have done differently? First of all, you WAY overbet the pot to start out. For 10/20 blinds (and I am assuming no raises, because if there were raises and you're playing 10/8 offsuit, you really are a douche) then throw out a small feeler bet.... like maybe 125 or so. Don't commit yourself to an unraised, pointless pot with a marginal hand. Secondly, after the call of this enourmous overbet, alarms and sirens have to be going off. If not, you need a new security system. A good poker player does not call a bet like 5 times the size of the pot with a flop of 10/7/7 without a strong hand. After he bet on the turn, you're play is to fold. You made a stupid bet on the flop, but seriously, you gotta bail out there. Even if he is bluffing with 2/3 offsuit, it's not worth it, because 90% of the time here, you're in trouble. He suckered you in hook/line/sinker. Don't be "that guy" who won't fold top pair, or who plays 10/8 offsuit to the grave. That guy is a douche, and will likely go home broke every night.

Lol
I guess assumed i was going to be splitting the pot, so since he was big stack, i figured i would at least make a few more chips on calling him... even after he initialy called me.

When the 7 came around, i was thinking (There's no way he has quad sevens) so i assumed once again that i had a decent chance at splitting the pot.
when he put me all in, i thought he was holding a 10.. in which case i was looking forward to getting more chips, there were no flush draws on the board.
i guess i should have just been more attentive.

oO

i thought about something that happened last weekend that I'd like to bring to the table here.

2/5 NL (dont ask why im playing this, i hate hate hate no limit seeing as how i blow so much ass at it, but needed a change and the only limit games were too tough at the time.. like 5am)

It's a good table. In the last hour ive been stuck in a situation with top full vs. quads, and still am up over $500. lots of action, a guy on mega tilt (who coincidentally keeps overbuying the maximum, but noone says a word, lol), and a resident addrenaline monkey who loves to put his stack in with OESDs and FDs.

UTG folds

Gramps (a 5/10 nl regular, have no real reads, just seen him playing a lot) sits in and posts UTG+1, fresh rack of 100 $5 chips.

tiltometer limps behind gramps.

tighty folds.

ultratalkative nerd beside me who was telling me about how he names his cats after star trek characters limps (one time worf brought home a squirrel.. blha blah blah shut up)

i limp with 77 OTB

Sb completes, BB checks,

flop Kd Qh 7s

bing. check, check gramps bets $35, folds to me, i make it $135

folds to him, he calls.

turn is a 2c

he check calls $200

river is a 6d

he checks, i turn to the dealer and say "all in"

The dealer acknowledges it, and turns to gramps

(a bit of background, gramps is in hte 8 seat, quite a ways fromt he dealer)

gramps makes no sound, no motion to his chips, opens up his hand and tosses it face up. he tosses them towards the dealer, towards the board. one of the cards is touching on of the board cards. keep in mind he never signalled an action in any ways. never said "call, fold" anything. never touched his chips, never waved an all in motion, nothing.

now seeing as how im beat, i mucked.

josh, the dealer i kinda know, shot me this really really strange look...

after dealing the next hand he said: "that pot was yours if you wouldnt have mucked"

from talking to him later, he basically said that it was his interpretation that since no action was announced, and the hand was thrown towards him, that constituted a fold, and therefore the hand was dead. but me mucking my hand killed my hand legitmately, not on a technicality. if i had only held on to my hand, his actions would have been considered folding since he never announced or motioned an action, and tossed his cards "to within my reach, and near the muck and board, similar to a standard fold"

now i realize no one is folding 2nd set there, but it got me thinking

about an hour later i went and talked to the floor to see what his take on it was.

his take was that if he was dealing, the act of exposign your hand does not kill your hand in a cash game (at borgata), but the action of tossing them in was deemed questionable. he would have given the player the option as to what to do, call or fold, saying that the hand was not over since the cards were only exposed, so his action was still open, despite the fact there was a distinct folding action that had transpired.

what's your take? (bgmimms esp.)

I was under the impression if your cards come into contact with any other cards then your hand is dead. I remember when Rooper would always try to muck his hand into mine so it would be dead too. Probably different at every casino though.

forgot to mention it was QQ he exposed.

^that was my impression too, but apparently its not always the case at the borgata hotel casino resort spa night club and light show extravaganza

id like to see an official passage from robert's

and david, by it touching the board, by like a corner.

I've only seen this happen once during an all in and the player had had a card touching lost so it didn't really matter. If it was just a corner they would have to be really anal to enforce it, or the player could just pull their card back an inch and dispute it once the floorman got there. I wish casinos had all the rules posted somewhere so I would know this shit before it happened.

exactly.

by talking to josh, it sounded like i could have disputed it at the time, and been awarded the pot by him. (it was ~ $1k)

but, im sure a dispute would have broken out, and the floor at the time was the one i talked to about it, and im sure that i would not be awarded the pot if the floor got involved.

gray areas suck

Pilgrim, it makes me that you asked for my take

Quote :

"

This is a cardroom specific choice. Apparantly at the Borgata (nice place I hear) he can expose his cards without constituting a fold. If that's the case, him flipping his cards makes no difference in this situation (as you have already noted). The problem here is the movement of the cards towards the dealer. I mean, the cards went forward enough that they came into contact with the community cards, so even though he was in seat 8, they came forward at least 5 or 6 inches.

If I were dealing that hand, his would be dead. I might have asked "Sir, what's your action?" but I would only give him a few seconds before declaring his hand dead.

Here's what Robert would tell you:

Section 2-1: 1. Management reserves the right to make decisions in the spirit of fairness, even if a strictinterpretation of the rules may indicate a different ruling.

So even given what I'm about to say, the dealer/floor could have made the opposite ruling.

Section 3: Dead Hands 1(b): You throw your hand away in a forward motion causing another player to actbehind you (even if not facing a bet).

That's the ruling I would have stuck with as the management/floor. That hand is dead because it caused you to act and it was in a forward motion.

Either way, the ruling would have been acceptable, but you have to ask before the cards rifle for the next deal. You should have asked for a decision in this case, but in the spirit of the game you may have let it go and taken the loss.

i went in heads up with 1/4 of the chips.... thats pretty damn low for heads up. not gonna lie, luck was on my side heads up, but i played it smart.

i took out 9 people too.

i feel accomplished
